I am declaring myself an abused little corgi. There was an ice storm at my house. Last night, my mom sent me outside and it was COLD and SLIPPERY. I did not like it one single bit. When I came back in, I TOLD her that I was not going out again until she made all that nasty stuff go away. Then I told dad the same thing!
And I stood my ground..... well.... until this morning.....
Then I couldn't wait any longer and HAD to go out. It was even worse outside then it was last night. Now I know some corgi's like the cold and ice and snow. However, I was raised in OK...we are not suppose to have that nasty weather here and well frankly I think there should be a law against it!
So.....See to it!
Signed,
His Royal Corginess Ci

I have decided I do not care for the little box mom calls “video camera”. First.... she follows me around the yard with it, trying to find my stinky spot. Well I showed her, she can follow me all she wants….I refuse to show her what I’ve been rolling in. I do not care if she says I’m a stinky boy! I like my spot and if she finds it, she will remove the “item” that makes it smell so good!
Then....she also caught me coming when called. This is not something I’m prone to do. When I first came to live with my forever family and they called me I would RUN AWAY as fast as I could. Then I realized that they wouldn’t chase me or hurt me or lock me up, so I would just stand and stare at them. Sometimes I would come because they gave me cookies. THAT was a BIG MISTAKE, because then they learned my weakness. So they started something called “obedience training” and they used COOKIES! That is incredibly unfair to a poor little corgi dog. Because you know we NEVER get enough cookies. Now sometimes I forget and even come when cookies aren’t involved, it’s very sad…..

Mom has been at me with the scissors! How could she? I am so embarrassed!!!! Ok, I do admit that I found some DELIOUSUS dead thing in the yard to gobble up. This in turn caused me to have a bit of tummy trouble. However, just because my fluffy bunny butt was a bit messy, did she HAVE to come at me with the scissors’?
After a couple of days, my tummy finally calmed down. Therefore, on Saturday I was so RELIEVED to see my stylist. She had to work very hard to “fix” the disaster that mom left behind. If it were not for all the COOKIES she gave me, I would have been a nervous wreck. I am once again absolutely gorgeous. After mom picked me up, we had to go to the Pet store so I could show off and have everyone tell me how beautiful I am. In addition, mom got me a new sheep pad for my crate. She also bought me another toy! The poor delusional thing keeps hoping that someday I will actually play with one of the toys she keeps giving me. I almost feel sorry for her, but not enough to play with toys!

This year has been full of new and wonderful things for Ci. He's learned that people are really friendly and generally come with cookies. He's gotten over his fear of other dogs and now it's time to teach him that he can't just trot up to EVERY dog he meets. He wants to be friends with everyone no matter what size or species.
He loves riding in the car. Especially on errands with drive thru windows. He has discovered that every time we stop at any type of drive thru that cookies are always handed out. If cookies are involved it must be good!
He still doesn’t play with toys, but we have little games that we play with him. Like get the corgi toes or roll the puppy. He’s a happy boy who’s just a joy to have around. We are very lucky to have him as part of our family.

Today we brought home a 2-year-old “fluffy” corgi. Even though he was with his original breeder, he did not know his name, he was completely unsocialized and had never been to a groomer. We stopped at PetsMart on the way home and my adult son ended up carrying him around as we bought a crate, bowls, and food and fitted him for a collar. The poor thing was completely terrified of everything.

Since our new little friend doesn’t know his ‘name’, we have changed it. The breeder gave me his papers just in case we wanted to show in obedience. We changed his name to Blewog Bach Ci, which is welsh and loosely translated to Fluffy Little Dog. We call him Ci (pronounced key). It a very happy sound and by the end of the day he was perking up his ears and listening to us when we said it.

Took Ci for a walk, he goes nuts if you attach a leash to his collar. However if you use a training collar he’s perfectly fine and will walk along next to you. If you pull on his daily collar at all, he pulls away and fights you. He’s afraid of most outside noises, other people, small dogs and children just about do him in.
4/1/07
We’ve been walking every night; Ci is becoming more comfortable with going out and is not so afraid of normal outside noises. We have signed up for an obedience class.
4/17/07
Ci is showing much better socialization skills since we have started our obedience class. I’m not sure he really enjoys the classes; however, he is a very smart little dog and is catching on quickly. We have noticed that he doesn’t seem to know how to play. He’s also terrified of squeaky toys.

It was raining again last night. Ci took his leash and my shoes, put them in his bed, and then just got in on top of them. He just laid there looking pitiful all night. Brat! Today the sun is shining and it's the first day in 2 weeks that it's not suppose to rain. I set on the back porch and had my morning tea before getting ready for work and Ci ran around like crazy. So many things to smell after days of rain. :-) I'll have to take him for an extra long walk tonight to make up for the two nights he has been so abused. Such a pitiful child. :-)

Took the brat (Ci) for a walk last night before I went to Yoga. He got scared by a truck dumping dirt and practically dragged me all the way home. You would never know that he has had any obedience training at all. Then when I got home from yoga, I was informed that just in case I have to clean it up later, Ci ate a bird and he's been gagging ever since. NICE! Husband said he kept yelling NO, but that just made Ci eat it faster. Hopefully the bird wasn't diseased and it will pass through naturally.
6/4/07
Ci caught a rabbit this weekend. Luckily I was in the yard and yelled 'leave it' so he let it go. He caught it about three times, with me yelling 'leave it' at the top of my lungs. Poor thing finally got through the decorative fence around the flower beds, Ci couldn't get to him there. I watched the rabbit off and on for about an hour and he grazed among the flowers after he calmed down, so I think he was all right. Apparently there is a problem with the 'leave it' training method. You tell them to 'leave it' then after they do you let them have the treat with an 'ok'. In Ci's little corgi mind, as long as he 'left it' he could then go right back after it. I love the rabbits and squirrels that come into the backyard to eat, so we are going to have to work on this little issue.
6/11/07
Ci found another dead bird (I think a cat hunts in our yard, because they are always gutted). When said leave it, he dropped it and just stood there. Then picked it back up and started towards me. I said leave it again and when he dropped it, I called him, and here's the BIG news.......... he actually came! :-) We were both so excited! It was as if a little light went on his corgi brain. So the rest of the weekend, whenever we were in the yard, I would call him. He came every time and part of the time, didn't even want a treat, just the pets and snuggles. :-) Don't get me wrong, I still don't trust the little fur ball not to take off like a shot if the gate gets open, but this is the first real progress he's shown. Yea for Ci! :-)
6/25/07
We were in the back yard and Ci was running around as fast as he could and all of a sudden he went flying by and sailed right over the little fence we put up to keep him out of the bird feeder area and garden. He looked so proud of himself, I scolded him and he just hopped right back over the fence and looked at me like "what?” The little stinker KNOWS he’s not supposed to go in the flowerbeds or over that little fence. He's like a little kid that just HAS to put his foot over the line because you tell him not to. BRAT! You know, he can jump pretty high for a dog with such little short legs. :-)
7/2/07
Ci and I did one lap of the park last night, about 1/2 mile and he was done. Poor thing was just going crazy. All the kids were out with their poppers and it was just undoing all the progress we have made to get him use to strangers and noise. At one point I just set down so he could jump in my lap, he was just shaking. We almost ran all the way home, I got a work out, believe it or not, those little corgi legs can really move.
7/12/07
Ci would not come back in this morning. He has been a pain about going out every morning because of the rain. This morning every time he came to the door I opened it and he'd run to the middle of the yard. The brat wanted me to come out and play, it was 71 and nice at six this morning and he was full of energy. Unfortunately, I don't have time to play before work. He finally came in, but the disgusted look he gave me let me know that I was no longer on his happy camper list. :-)
7/24/07
Since Ci was ignored over the weekend so I could read the new Harry Potter book, he was not letting me off the hook last night. He followed me everywhere with a tennis shoe in his mouth until I gave in and took him for a walk. He is such a nag, makes me wonder if all Corgi's are like that. :-)

His Royal Corginess had his groomer’s appointment on Sat. He was in for a shock. His groomer has left for parts unknown and he now has a new hair stylist. It took us about 20 minutes, but he finally warmed up to her and decided that quiet possibly she might do a passable job; therefore, he would give her a chance. Many cookies were involved in this process. :-) She did a great job on him. She was braver then his last groomer and didn't have a problem going as short as I wanted all at once (the last person did it a little shorter each time). Any way his lion’s mane is much shorter and the rest of Ci actually looks like a corgi, as opposed to a sheltie with no legs or tail. He was just so proud of himself when he came prancing out. Although the minute we got home he had to go out in the back yard and find a stinky spot to roll in. **Sigh**

We finally had a break in the heat this weekend. It rained all day Sunday and kept the temps in the low 80's. It almost felt chilly after the 100 plus degree temps we have been dealing with. This morning I let Ci out and the little stinker wouldn't come back in. Just ran in cycles and barked. I told him I would leave his little fluffy behind out there all day. However, he knew better and just kept running. Guess he was really enjoying the cooler weather. I finally just left him out and went on with my morning business. He finally came to the door and started banging on it. Guess he realized if he waited too long he might not get his morning cookie, cause when he came in he ran over and set very pretty in front of the pantry. :-)

We have moles, yep those little underground varmints that eat all your flowers and destroy your yard. We do not poison anything because if it's dead, Ci will roll in it, and then eat it. So..... Since moles, unlike rats, will not oblige us and run across the yard for my husband to shoot, we now have a mole thumper. Every time Ci goes outside, he runs right over to it and growls. Now you have to picture this, it's underground and it's making a high-pitched noise and thumping. We can't hear it. He pounces on the spot and then growls repeatedly. He keeps his front paws in the same place and walks his hind legs around and around in circles while growing at the thing. He looks completely insane! When I call him away, he barks once at it, sticks his little nose in the air and trots off, as if he's saying......... "There! I guess I showed you". He had me laughing so hard this weekend I swear I couldn't breathe.
9/30/07
Ci actually barked when someone came to the door. He looked scared afterwards, but we told him he was a good boy.
12/10/07
The sky is falling! We are having a massive ice storm. Ci let’s us know just before a branch comes off a tree. He will start growling and then there will be a loud CRACK! The next thing you hear will be a large branch hitting the house. This went on all day as our big old trees lost most of their limbs. The front yard is so filled with limbs that the front door is blocked. The backyard has limbs down, but the porch roof has at least kept the door clear so Ci can use the patio to do his business. He’s smart enough NOT to go out in the yard. Did we mention the SKY is falling!
12/15/07
We have created a monster! Whenever someone comes to the front door, Ci barks non-stop. He won’t shut-up until we tell him what a good brave little dog he is. Then he just prances around the house as if he’s just all that!
1/15/08
Ci was invited to a birthday party! I’ve never attended a dog party and I’m not sure how well he will do, he’s still very shy around other dogs and people he doesn’t know.
2/1/08
Ci was a darling at the party! He was a little shy and just hung back and watched all the other dogs. He did eat a little doggie b’day cake that I fed him off my fingers. He had a couple of doggie treats, at the end of a couple of hours he was actually interacting with some of the other dogs on his own. We have decided that we need to have a monthly get together for the dogs.
2/15/08
Who are all these people and WHY are they stealing all the stuff out of the kitchen! We are remodeling the kitchen, Ci is not amused. Every night when we come home, we let him out of our bedroom and he runs in and checks out the kitchen to see what else they have STOLEN! Then he woo woo’s and barks and tells us all about the fact that they’ve stolen EVERYTHING including the walls!
3/15/08
We have had Ci for a year and he has completely won our hearts. In the last couple of months, he’s just blossomed and come into his own Corginess. He behaves as if we’ve always had him. The doggie play dates were just what he needed. He is more confident and more outgoing. He loves going for rides in the car. He curls up next to me on the sofa, he has decided that he doesn’t need dog beds, he has the sofa and our bed, and the cats now sleep in the dog beds.
