That night of January started like any other. I lived in the streets, wandering and looking for food into the trash. I wasn't alone, my dear friend Black Doggie was with me, doing the same as me: trying to survive. I decided to take a look at something at the other side of the street, Black Doggie was behind of me. Then it arrived at full speed and hit me. It was a car, the coward driver didn't stop even if I'm sure he heard my terrible screams of pain.
I was there, in the middle of the street, and I couldn't move. Black Doggie was trying to help me with his nose, he was softly pushing me towards a safe place. A lady carrying a sheet arrived, followed by a man and a young girl. I could barely hear their voices, my pain was terrible, my eyes were shutting, I was feeling the world going away. The man and the young girl carefully put me on a sheet, while the lady was speaking to someone at the phone. "Ok, he's waiting for us", she said, "let's go". The three put me in a car and took me to the strangest place I'd ever been. There was a big light over me, it smelled of strange things, but it also smelled of dogs and cats. I closed my eyes again, life was abandoning me. The lady was gently touching my head and talking to me: "please don't go, please stay, don't die, fight for your life". A strange man in green was touching me, he put a needle in my paw, he covered me, and said: "I don't think she's going to make it, she's so badly hurt, hips are broken, one femur is broken, and one of her broken hips are now over her spine, she's in shock, only a miracle can save her".
The lady's hands were shaking when she came by my side to tell me goodbye, the man at her side was caressing me while saying prayers. Finally they went away, all turned black to me.
I opened my eyes, the sun was already up in the sky. I was thirsty, but still couldn't move. I tried to stand up, my back legs didn't obey, and a wave of pain arrived inmediately. I took a look around me. I was in a crate, and I still had a needle in my paw. The man in green arrived and smiled. "Girl, you are awake, this is a miracle!" Then the lady and the man of the night before arrived, both smiling at me, and I heard the man in green telling them that I was probably going to make it, but I needed to rest for about 3 weeks. The lady and the man told him I was going to stay there for all the necessary time, "please do anything you can to save her".
Days were passing by, and the lady was coming to visit me every day. I was feeling better each day, but my back and legs were still not moving. The lady started one day to give me yummy bones, she always was kindly talking to me, and one day she called me "Rosy". I was the proud bearer of a name!!!
Many days had passed, and the man in green was starting to take me out of the crate for a very short walks; I needed to be helped with my back legs, but I was walking again.
Then one day the lady told me: "Rosy, we are going home". "What is that?", I thought, "a crate like this?". The lady and the man lifted me to their car and after a while we arrived to a big house. There there was a bed waiting for me, water and food at my will, and I started to learn what to be petted was about. Everybody in the family was helping me to walk, and day by day I became stronger, my back legs were obeying me, I could go by myself wherever I wanted. I also found out I was part of the family, so I had a mom, a dad, a bro, and 2 sisters, plus my canine bro Toby and my canine sisters Luna, Gaia, and Sissi.
More days passed by, and I started to spend the mornings at my mom's studio. One of those mornings mom looked at me and told me:"Rosy, my dear, your belly is becoming bigger every day, can I touch it?" She softly touched my belly and told me: "look, to me you are pregnant, but I'm probably wrong, no way for puppies to survive after all you have been through, let's go to the vet, ok?" Well, I was pregnant, and puppies were alive, one more miracle had happened!!!
More days, my belly bigger and bigger. One morning sis Irene looked at me, I was shaking. She called mom at the phone, mom asked her to look at my belly and tell her if my belly seemed to be moving by itself and getting hard. Yes, it was. Mom and dad came back home, looked at me, and dad decided to take me to the vets (again!, I thought, but thanks daddy, you were right, I needed the vet!).
The vet told us I needed a cesarean, I was impossible for me to give birth to the puppies by myself, and after an hour 7 beautiful puppies were born, my seven miracles, 2 boys and 5 girls.
Mom and dad gave me a whole room near the kitchen for me and the puppies, they are now 2 months old, they are big, strong, and beautiful!!!
To thank my family I gave them a special present: I run and play now! I still remember mom's expression when I ran to greet her for the first time!!! Her eyes became wet, she was so so so happy!!!
I'm not a stray anymore, but I still remember those awful days, mom knows it. I want to say a very very special thanks to the Black Doggie, the one who helped me that terrible night, the best canine friend I ever had.
To all abandoned and sad doggies I wish to find love and a home as it happened to me, God bless you all!!!
