Leave a bone for Romeo

Nicknames: Romie, Romes, Rome, Romie Butt, Sideburns

Quick Bio:
Likes: Plush toys, chewies, treats. Going for car rides, playing in the woods, running, chasing wild animals. Being scratched on his chin, ears, or belly. Cuddling. Chewing on pillows and blankets.

Pet-Peeves: Loud noises of any kind. Storms, especially. Other pets getting too close to his 'human'. Not being able to find his toy or chewie. Leashes. Clipping his nails. Baths.

Favorite Toy: Ropehead, turtle, and now a bone shaped plushie. Anything else that's soft and he can chew apart and pull the stuffing out of. He especially loves the stuffing.

Favorite Food: Pig ears and rawhides. He also loves any canned dog food that's meat chunks, not processed can-shaped food.

Favorite Walk: All through the woods - he misses that place.

Best Tricks: Give paw, jump up and puts his paws on my waist so that I can pick him up when it's time to go for a car ride, and he understands nouns very well. Like 'outside', 'treat', 'water', and specific words for his toys.

Arrival Story: Romeo - along with his two brothers, Sid and Wishbone, and sister, Kira - were found by the water delivery man when he was picking up water for the house. He found a small, vinyl, insulated cooler in the ditch as he was filling the truck with water. He pulled the cooler out of the ditch just in time for the truck to be full, so he hung the cooler on a bracket at the side of the truck. He drove the thirty minutes or so to his destination and proceeded to empty the water into the cistern. While waiting, he went to examine the cooler and found four tiny puppies in it. Maybe only a few weeks old, and horribly unhealthy. Thankfully he was at a house that rescued dogs off the streets, so they gladly took these puppies in and nursed them to health. There was concern that they wouldn't make it, but they slowly came around. Once they were fully healthy puppies, it was impossible for people to not fall in love with them.
Of the four, Romeo was always the most timid. He shyed away from other animals and mostly people. He had hiding spots in the house and was rarely seen in the main room. He would sneak out the doggy doors to go run in the woods and his food was brought to him in the evening. By the time he was about two and half, I started staying at this house to help take care of all the animals. There were about 20 dogs and 2 cats. He was always my favorite, and I made sure I would go into 'his room' to play with him every day. He loved having toys thrown so that he could catch them in the air. After staying there for awhile, I set up a bed in a room down the hallway from the master bedroom, which was Romeo's main hiding place. Within the first couple of nights, he made his way into my room and I woke up to find him sleeping next to me.
From that point on, he was my dog. And that was his new hiding room. Although he started using it less and less, because he became more outgoing towards everyone.

Bio: Because he wasn't trained for tricks until he was 5 or 6, he only has one that he can do on command, and that is 'give paw'. Now he also uses this trick to indicate that he wants something - such as attention, toys, or treats. He spent about five years in the country, able to run free as far as he wanted and never had to wear a collar. I was quite surprised to see him adjust easily to a collar and fenced in yard. A leash is a whole other story. Also, he's a complete spoiled brat. But he deserves it.
