Arrival Story:
Jan/Feb 2007 Candy belonged to some people in our neighborhood. She had been given as a puppy to the daughter in this family. Candy was tied up outside 95% of the time. We used to talk to her when we got our mail. A couple of times she was loose just running around. First, she didn't have a dog house and we had just recently gone through an ice storm. I got a dog house donated for her! One day I noticed a male dog around he and assumed correctly that she was in heat. I went to the owners and said in sign language (the wife only speaks Spanish, I made the sign of a baby and pointed at Candy) that Candy was in heat. They allowed me to take her to get her spayed. I kept her at our house for the first few days after her spay so she wouldn't be outside. Then I took her back. I hated to tie her up. So every weekend I would pick her up on Thursday night and keep her at our house until Monday morning. She was rambunctious to say the least because she was tied up all week, and house-breaking was not easy, but we finally accomplished it. About 4 months later, I picked Candy up and never took her back. A month or so later, the owners asked if I had her and I said yes. They didn't really want her, although she was a good "dog". They never fed her dog food, only scraps. So, Candy became one of our pack. We consider her "adoptable", but we may end up keeping her ourselves.
