Adopt 08 Contest...My Amazing Adoption Story!

I have a pretty amazing adoption story, if I do say so myself! Okay...here goes...
I was born in a puppy mill and placed into a pet store window with a sign that said FOR SALE. I was all alone in my cell, but could hear other dogs crying out for help, just as I would do from time to time. One day someone came in and bought me. I was so excited, but the nightmare had only just begun. The lady who bought me was not very nice to me. I was abused and left outside, and often neglected. I was so lonely and longed for a family who would love me. I somehow managed to escape while I was tied up outside and I ran as fast as I could away from that terrible place. I was running and scared, not used to the streets and I got hit by a car. The car didn't even stop to see if I was hurt or anything. But a nice man who saw me get hit scooped me up and took me to a vet. He didn't know where I came from, but he knew that I needed a doctor. Somehow, the lady that bought me found out that I had been hit, and she said that she didn't want me anymore anyway. I thought I was a gonner...no family and expensive injuries...I thought I was going to Rainbow Bridge for sure. My paws were in bad shape. The front left paw was completely broken, and the front right paw was degloved and mangled. The vet patched me up as best he could without any funds, and sent me on my way to the dog shelter. My injuries were not improving, and I was getting sick and weak. Then one day a kind lady came and told me that her rescue was going to help me...All Creatures Great and Small in Hollister, California. That kind lady turned out to be the founder of the rescue and her name was Vivian Kennedy. She made sure that I got the vet care I so desperately needed. I was put in foster care so I would have time to heal. I had to have my bandages changed every 2 days for about 2 months. While in foster care, I was neutered. I had a bad reaction to the anesthesia and flat-lined on the operating table. They had to revive me with chest compressions and medicine. So there I was--five months old, missing part of my paw, permanently disabled and homeless. I didn't know what to do. I was just going to hope for a miracle. In the meantime, my foster mom made me a Dogster page and listed me as ADOPTABLE and someone responded! It was a family in Ohio...but I was all the way in California. I thought this would turn out to be another disappointment. Little did I know...
I guess my Dogster page caught the eye of someone special. It was a lady named Megan from Ohio who had gone through some tough times too. Two years ago when she was 25, she was diagnosed with a disease that almost caused her life to end. But for some reason, God decided to spare her and give her a second chance at life. She was so grateful for this and knew she had to "pay it forward". That's where I come into the picture...
Megan gave me my second chance at life, and I nearly escaped being euthanized due to shelter overcrowding. Two rescue volunteers booked a flight to Ohio and flew with me to personally deliver me to my forever home! Megan met us at the airport, and the rest is history!!! I now sleep in bed with my new mom, with my nose on her pillow. I will always be disabled, but I can still get around okay. And Mom's disease is in remission. We both got our miracles! I just love happy endings, don't you?!?!?
For all the pups out there waiting to be adopted, know that I am praying for you all to find your forever homes...miracles DO happen, and I am a perfect example of that!

I got my wheels!

Oh my gooseness, I got the coolest present ever! It's a doggy stroller!!!!! Can you believe it?!? It's so neat. See, mom and dad like to take Kilo and Pickles for walks when the weather is nice. They were afraid that I wasn't going to be able to walk the whole time since my paws are special from being hit by that darn car. They knew that I would be heartbroken if I didn't get to go with the rest of the gang on the walks, so they decided to get me my very own wheels! Mom says that I can walk for a little while with them, then I will ride in my stroller for a while so my little paws won't hurt. When I walk, I do limp but it doesn't seem to hurt me. But walking on the sidewalk made of concrete might make my pegs (legs) hurt. I think Kilo will be super jealous of me because I'll be crusing around in my brand new wheels while he had to walk the whole time! Heehee. I can't wait for springtime so I can try out my new wheels!

OMD! I can hardly believe my little eyes! I...you mean...ME?...have been chosen to be Dog of the Day?!?!?!!? I am so honored! I just love Dogster so much...afterall, it was because of Dogster that I found my forever home. And now...Dog of the Day! Yipee! Yipee Doodles! I am doing my "happy dance" right now.
(Chachi prepares his acceptance speech...)

First, I'd like to thank Vivian in Hollister, California for founding such a wonderful rescue and saving my life. I'd also like to thank Peg, my foster mom, for taking me in when I had nowhere else to go, and for making sure I got to all of my many doctor's appointments. Without them, none of this would have been possible.
Next, I'd like to thank Dogster for being such a grrrreat place. It was because of Dogster's "adoptable dog" feature that I was able to find my forever home.
I'd also like to thank my new family for welcoming me into their home and giving me their unconditional love.
I'd like to thank American Airlines for allowing me to ride on board with Peg and Vivian while they flew from California to Ohio with me.
A big thank you goes out to my many friends right here on Dogster for being so supportive.
Thank you to Grrrrrammy, who helped my mommy pay for my adoption fees.
Thank you to the vet in California who patched me up after I was hit by a car.
Oh...and thank you to NUTRO MAX for making those delicious puppy drumsticks...they are yummy!
If I have forgotten anyone, I do apologize. This is such an honor, and it's all a little overwhelming for such a little pup!
xoxo,
Chachi

I am Finally HERE!

Yippee! Wednesday was my big day. I had to get up at 4:30am PST to get ready for my airplane ride! My foster mom Peg, and Vivian (the founder of the rescue) flew with me to my new furever home. We got on the plane in California and flew to Texas. There, we changed planes and flew the rest of the way to Ohio. I was a very good boy on the plane. I got to ride in the cabin with "Auntie Peg" and "Auntie Vivian". At the airport in Columbus, Ohio we met my new family. They all went together to check out my new home. I was introduced to Kilo and Miss Pickles. Kilo was a little grumpy, but Miss Pickles was pretty fun. Then it was time for Peg and Viv to go back to their hotel at the airport. I was sad to see them go, but I love my new home. I will never forget them and the rescue that saved my life. These women went above and beyond their volunteer duties to personally deliver me to my new home (thousands of miles away). What wonderful people they are...I will never forget them.
The past few days have been great! I met my Grrrrammy for the first time, and she spoiled me with tons of love. Kilo and I are best buddies now, and we even shared the same bed! Miss Pickles and I ran around all over the house. She is so much fun!
Well, I gotta run! Places to go, people to see!
