Leave a bone for Lilly of the Valley Arrival Story: Lilly has been adopted!!!
UPDATE 3/31/08: Senior beagle looking for some love and serenity!
OK - so who can have a pet for TEN years, and then decide to "lose" them on the streets of Philadelphia and have them end up at a shelter? These are the stories we don't understand. It is doubtful Lilly's owners truly cared for her, though. She was brought in with a tumor on her foot, overweight, and with bedsores. But this older gal is one incredible pet!
Lilly's medical problems are all taken care - tumor was removed, she was put on Lite dog food, and was finally given the opportunity to get plenty of exercise! Lilly is a lot of fun. She is crate trained and housetrained, gets along well with other dogs, and has little to no interest in cats. Sounds like a great addition for ANY home!
Lilly is a typical beagle and likes to counter-surf, check out the garbage, and use her voice to tell you when she's not happy, but what beagle doesn't meet this description?! This sweet beagle has a lot of years yet to live, and just needs a loving home that will provide her a place to spend the rest of her life. Can you offer her such a home? If so, please inquire about Lilly!
We are posting Lilly now even though she needs some medical care that we will attend to. Look on her right front paw - yes, we believe that to be a tumor. We are still getting through our preliminary veterinary visits to know exactly what we are dealing with, but regardless of what we find, this special girl will need a forever home. To summarize this sweet beagle:
She's a real loving-heart. Just wants to be with you and be loved.
She can be quite vocal if she's unhappy, but that isn't often (usually when she wants to come inside).
She gets along with all the dogs in my household, has little to no interest in my cats.
She is a dedicated counter-surfer, HIGHLY food motivated.
So far has been kid-tolerant.
Lilly has not had the best life so far - ending up in a Pennsylvania shelter. She has been clearly neglected, but the time for that is OVER. The "bedsores" on her body need to heal as we get her moving and give her space to get out and about in a way she was surely not allowed before. She is up to date on her vaccinations and heartworm negative. She has a spay scar, so she is believed to have been previously spayed. We are awaiting the results of the cytology to tell us more about the makeup of her tumor. She is otherwise doing just fine - just needs a loving home to care for her. We are helping her lose weight, and giving her the love and attention she so deserves. Ultimately, she needs a loving home where she can walk around as she pleases, sleep on dog beds, relax, and be treated like a queen! She deserves the best - can you give it to her?
Update: The cytology reports have come back, and Lilly's tumor appears to be benign. Our veterinarians are still recommending that the tumor be removed, so we are getting that scheduled now! With that mass off her foot, and the pounds shedding away, she is just waiting for a special owner to love and care for this special beagle!
Update II: Lilly's tumor/mass has been removed! She is ready to go to her forever home...will you open your heart to a Senior Beagle? I've Been On Dogster Since:
