I love checking out the forums, asking questions and reading posts but, I can't take the political momentum here on Dogster. I know, I know "it's an election year" but I deal with politics all day long, when I am on Dogster I don't want to. It used to be a reprieve for me and I'm sure it will be again...just AFTER the election. So I will see you kids in MDM or PM me if you want to talk but I won't be seeing you in the public threads for a while.

First Weight Pull

We went to our first weight pull on Saturday. It was a ton of fun. We met Sebastian, Cinnabar and their mom there. Some of the dogs were really incredible. I don't think we will ever weight pull on a "pro" level but if there is one in our area were are going to go again.

First Day of School!

Well, Koda's first day of his new class started. He is learning how to focus on me this week instead of all the other distractions in the wide world.
The trainer had him on hie easy walk at first but has requested we use a prong during training. I'm not sure about this. I will probably post it as a question in Behavior and Training when I don't have a ton of school work to finish myself. Other than that he did well. He's so pushy when he sees treats though, he keeps nuzzling my hand. That is not going to fly. We are taking him off clicker slowly so he can get used to vocal alone. She would like to see him take his CGC test hopefully in a few months..I guess that means she see potential in him.
Mostly I'm worried about me screwing up... I get so nervous that I'm going to do something wrong that I do something wrong. I have to control that. For example If she says "about turn right" I get all kinds of jumbled and trip over myself. I'm not usually uncoordinated, I'm a good athlete and have good balance but the pressure that it's not just my butt on the line, that Koda is relying on me to do it right just gets to me. I am going to practice the commands without him and see if that helps. OOOO maybe I can CT myself ha ha..but eww no fried liver I will have cheese fries instead!!!!

Back to School!

Well, it's back to school time for me. I have my first class on Wednesday, September 3rd. I'm not sure how ready I am but I will have to stop the pity party, not everyone gets this opportunity and I will be telling myself that on the 3rd I'm sure. Back to school for Koda too???? Yes.
This summer I have exhausted myself training him. I have been bruised and bloodied and frustrated over it. I have tried many methods of training to find what works best for us (turned out going back to the clicker was the thing to do). Finally, I have bugged my fellow Dogsters about it.
We are ready to go back to school on a private base at first. I'm a little concerned because this school focuses on Rally-O not really behavior modification but, it can't hurt to get him out there again.
Koda's first day of school is September 5th I will keep my fingers crossed and keep this diary updated on our progress.

My first year

It's my first birthday to day and I vowed I would start my diary. That's about all I have to say today seeing as how my mom is dog tired from spoiling me all day. Chasing me around, baking me a cake and taking me to the pet store so I could pick out new toys. Tell you the truth I'm pooped too. So I will talk about my first year of life tomorrow. Nighty-night!
