These humans...they crack me up

Hi, I'm an Aussie with issues

Mom says she's had me (or I've had her) almost a year now; I've put her through the mill, so to speak, but I'm always teaching her new tricks. (I have my one favorite where I do a "high five;" everybody loves that!)

Mom adopted me from the Animal Center of Queens last January, and I seemed to be settling in pretty well; just this past week, though, I've bitten her pretty badly twice when she tried to put on the leash. Mom isn't overly surprised, although she's concerned that I'd do that. What might bring that on? We don't have any recent changes in the household, and she doesn't think anything new should be affecting me right now.

Is it the one-year milestone? Might I be aware of that? I haven't bitten anyone else lately.

Mom was so sure I was a Yorkshire terrier (a big Yorkie, she admitted) but she took me to the groomer today and found out I'm probably an Australian terrier. So Mom is pretty happy to find this out; I'm different!

I am too a good dog!

Tonight Mom and I went to play bingo at Animal Haven and she was proud of me that I sat quiet in her lap the whole time—even when people were yelling and hitting gongs! She hadn't known how I'd be, but she kept telling me what a good dog I was. She guesses I've been with her about two months now.

But that breed thing again...before we went in to play, a lady was telling Mom, "He's awfully big for a Yorkie; I think he's a Silky. You can see it in his face." People, I'm a dog. I don't care what breed I am!

"He's only twelve pounds," Mom said. The lady insisted I had to be a silky; Mom told me about how her last dog confused people too. Guess that's why humans have to have "papers" for everything.
