Arrival Story:
If you prefer your guy to be of the stunningly handsome variety, get ready to "oooh" and "aaah" over this boy. Lowie is a looker (and he knows it)! This gorgeous fellow with the dreamy blue eyes makes all the girls swoon. Can you blame them? Lowie is oh-so-fluffy and oh-so-huggable, it's hard to resist him. A Tassie's Hope foster mom found Lowie as a stray in a rural, northeast Texas town, shortly after the first of the year. He was hanging out at a gas station. Maybe he wanted a Slurpee? Who knows? The store attendant said Lowie had been running loose in the area for several days. He was not wearing a collar and had no microchip. He was also underweight, so apparently he had missed more than a few meals. All attempts to locate Lowie's owner failed. These days, Lowie is hanging out and enjoying life at his foster home, while he waits for the nice people at Tassie's Hope to find him a really wonderful forever home. Lowie needs a new family that is experienced with this breed - or one who is dog-savvy and has done enough research to determine if a Siberian Husky is right for their household and activity level. Huskies are not a good choice for the beginner. They can be a bit of a challenge. These guys are intelligent and can be hard-headed and independent. If given the opportunity, they like to roam (which may be the reason that Lowie was found as a stray). Some Huskies are not a good match for smaller furry or feathered household pets, viewing them more as a tasty snack than part of the family. There is a flip-side to that coin, though. Ask any afficionado of this breed and they'll tell you there is nothing better than that Husky "yowl", the semi-annual "blowing of the coat" and the mental "chess game" that seems to take place between Husky and owner. Huskies are fun-loving, graceful, loyal companions. They are very social and gentle - great with kids - and are not at all suspicious of strangers. They also don't bark very much. Lowie would make a wonderful jogging buddy for someone. He would like to have a canine friend in his new home. Our $175 adoption fee helps offset the cost of Lowie's vet visit. He is neutered, wormed, and current on shots. As with almost half of the dogs we bring into our program, Lowie tested heartworm-positive. He is currently undergoing treatment and will be back in tip-top shape, ready to party like a rock star, by the beginning of summer. Lowie is about a year old, so he has a long life ahead of him. If you would like to give this beautiful, special boy a loving, permanent home, please complete our application form today: Adoption Application.

Bio:
Lowie will be up for adoption once I am able to get some weight put on him and once we are able to get him vetted. I will update his page when he is availabe for adoption. He will be put up for adoption through Tassie's Hope Animal Rescue. UPDATE (1/23/08): We took Lowie to the vet yesterday to be neutered, get his shots and get tested for worms. He tested positive for Hookworms, Whipworms, Coccidia, and heartworms. So he is now on Albon and Panacur to clear up the Hooks, Whips, and Coccidia. He has an appointment on Feb 4th to start his heartworm treatment. I WILL PUT ANY ADDITIONAL UPDATES IN HIS DIARY.

Update 4/21/08

I am feeling much better now. I have gained quite a bit of my weight back and am making lots of friends in my foster home.

The good/bad news is I started my HW treatment today (I'm glad that I get to get rid of the HWs, but sad that I will have to keep quiet for a month).

There might be a family that is interested in adopting me when I am healthy. My FM is talking to them right now, so hopefully I will have a home soon!! = )

My First Vet Visit

My First real Vet Visit was on 1/22/08 (the first time I went to a vet was just to see if they knew me or if I had a microchip). This time I got neutered, UTD on my shots, tested for intestinal worms and tested for heartworms. I tested positive for Whipworms, Hookworms, Coccidia, and have a low case of Heartworms. = ( The good news is that I gained 2lbs. I was VERY under weight when my foster mom found me (59lbs, my foster mom thinks I will weigh in at 70 - 80lbs when I am at my ideal weight). The vet put me on Panacur for the Whipworms and the Hookworms and Albon for the Coccidia. I have an appointment to start heartworm treatment on Feb 4th.

How I Came to Rescue

It is quite confusing how I ended up on the street. But, I remember those days and nights well. At first it was exciting, being free and able to run. But then I grew tired of running and wanted to go home. I searched for my master, but he could not be found. I tried to go to people for help, but they would just say "shoo" and chase me away. A few days and nights went by and I still could not find my master. I was getting hungry, so I started looking everywhere for food. I found a building where people would pull there cars up to these machines, stop and get out of there car for a little while and then leave. Sometimes people would go inside, and everyonce in a while someone would come out and toss some food on the ground for me. There was a creek right behind this building, so I figured I would just stay here for a while. Well, that same day one lady pulled her car up to one of those machines and when she got out of the car she looked at me. She went into the store (when she went in the store I walked behind the store to my creek), she then came out and she must have been watching me through the window because she know where I had gone. She came around the store and said "hear puppy" in a really nice, happy voice. I came running to her and gave her kisses to show her I was friendly. She took me to her car, put a slip lead on me and let me get in the car. Then she went back to the machine for a few minutes (I learned that it is called a gas pump) and got in the car and we left. She said that she had gone into the store to make sure I didn't belong to anyone in there and to leave her phone # incase anyone came by looking for me. They had told her that I had been running around town for a few days and they didn't know who I belonged to. She brought me to feed stores and vet offices in the area as well as calling all the local animal shelters, nobody knew me and knowbody had heard of anyone missing a Husky, she also checked all the papers and many online sites. While at the vet's I was scanned for a microchip and that was negative. My foster mom looked for my owner for a little over a week before she decided that I had been dumped. So now she is my foster mom and is going to help me find a better home. = )
