Arrival Story:
Our beloved Dalmation of 13+ years passed in 2006. It was time to hear the pitter patter of little feet, but we didn't want a big dog. We wanted one that was small enough to travel but had a big dog attitude. One thing Shibas have is ATTITUDE!

Bio:
Tomo, Japanese for pal or companion is a fitting name for our fuzz butt! His nick name of Ha Kira! loosely translates to leaf killer. We got him in October and trust me, the neighborhood is safe. No leaf will attack; he has slayed them all! And of course any Siba owner understands where "Little Monster" comes from...

What a Summer!

November 9th 2008 9:34 am   [link to this entry]

Wow! Since visiting my cousins in Pensacola this summer I've been soooo busy! Here's what's been going on:

We went scalloping over the 4th of July week, (an annual tradition in my family). We were in Steinhatchee and out on the boat all day every day, rain or shine!! I met lots of new friends. Mom and Dad are friends with the Short family and they have a beautiful college age daughter (who brought two of her beautiful college friends!) and boy was I in doggie heaven...uh...oh yeah...scalloping! We had fun. One weekend even my Aunt Patti and Uncle Dave came with my cousin Murphy.

My town had Dogtoberfest downtown. It was lots of fun. All the dogs were in costume for Halloween. I had my picture taken and met Java *sigh* and her little brother, both Shibas. She was a creamie and he was a red pup. Oh my heart be still! She was a dreamie creamie, Java!

I passed my Canine Good Citizen test at the Dogtoberfest. And that day ran away from Dad into the woods. (He was not happy!) I really don't want that good citizen thing to go to their heads! That's a rep I don't want to have to live up to every day. BOL!

I got a great shirt and a vampire doll from Safari on the Halloween exhange. That Shiba forum is the greatest!

Then this fall my Aunt Pattie, Uncle Dave, Murphy, Mom and Dad I went on a vacation to the Smokey Mountains (the Tennessee side). OMD!! It was great. We were in a cabin in the mountains. Mom was huffing and puffing every walk! BOL! But Aunt Patti, Murphy, and Mom and I went on a trail and walked in the mountains every day. It was so cool! The leaves were the same color as me! (See my pic on my page!). It was really fun even if I did have put up with my cousin!

Dad took me on the Dragon at Deals Gap. It was cool, 318 curves in 11 miles! OMD! I'm a well ridden dog! Dad even got me a patch to put on my motorcycle bag so everyone knows I survived that trip!

The year is winding down and Mom and Dad are so busy that we haven't even been fishing in Steinhatchee since August. And soon it will be Christmas! We have lots of exchanges and fun planned on the Shiba forum. I can't wait!

Life is great when you are a SHIBA!

My Cousins & Me

June 19th 2008 4:40 pm   [link to this entry]

Mom has had a long month! She said she is going through Dogster withdrawal.

It all started with a trip to my Autie Patti's in Pensacola. My human cousin, Kyle graduated from high school and Mom took the opportunity to finally get me with all my pup cousins! She kept telling me how great it would be, (afterall, I love the park with all the big dogs!). Well we drove the almost 6 hours and I finally got to meet my cousin Maxx, (a Chesapeake Bay Retriever) , my cousin Morgan, (a Chocolate Lab) and Murphy, (a Bichon). How lucky are they not to be only children?!

The first little bit of time was fine. Everyone was happy to meet me and we ran in my Aunt Patti's big fenced back yard! Oh it was glorious. The grass was fresh and green and the yard was so big! But the big dogs were kind of fuddy duddy. Mom says it's because they're getting old. But that's okay. Murphy seemed to be a little more energetic and I was quite happy laying in the shade watching all the humans, (they had a cook out in my honor...okay it was for Kyle, but I know deep down it was for me, the Shiba!).

Mom, Morgan, Aunt Patti and I went for a walk. They have neat stuff like rabbits running around. We walked down to a creek and Mom found me a pine cone to take to the back yard so I would have something to play with. That made the back yard perfect! Shade, grass and my pine cone. Would you believe the little Bichon came over and pee'd on my pine cone?! What a little snot! I guess they didn't really want me ther after all. :~(

I really had a great time. I have lots of family! My other human cousin has a Havanese/Bichon mix, Miller. (What's with all the "M"s???). We really played hard, (and he didn't pee on my pine cone!). Over all it was a great trip. Murphy and I will get to go to the mountains together in October. (I'll have to hide my pine cones!, but it will be fun).

Since we've been back Mom and Dad have been working non-stop. They're ready for a break! (We did go fishing one weekend, but the phone didn't stop and the fish didn't bite, but I had a great rest on the boat! BOL!) I can't wait to get back into the Dogster with all my friends! And I'll post pictures of me with my cousins!

You Dare to Touch the Magnificant Shiba?!

May 17th 2008 10:44 am   [link to this entry]

Today in Shiba school the trainer had our pawrents trade dogs. We'll Dad went with a 5 month old Black Shephard. She was unruly because she hasn't been in class every week and was wearing a brand new gentle leader. Her Dad took me. I was the perfect student, doing the heel and weaving between toys and treats without being distracted. And then he said "sit". I wasn't quite ready to sit yet and he reached down to push my bottom...hey! who do you think you are touching the Shiba?! (Of course I thought he was trying to pet me because he was doing it all wrong! He should have been in class when we learned that part!) I get petted when I say to pet me...not before!

Anyway, we all got to go back to our pawrents. Marley's dad learned the right way to correct an ignored sit command and I was once again the shining star! They just don't understand I could care less about those distractions in the middle of the ring! I rarely succumb to bribery.

Today was great! I started with a furminator session before class, class and dog park playing. I got the dreaded bath and more furminating. Now I'm ready to just chill for the rest of the day!

What a great life for a Shiba!
