Arrival Story:
My daughter and granddaughter are volunteers at Friends of Homeless Animals, and asked if I could care for Sweetie while her foster mom was out of town. I was only supposed to have her for less than a week, but I couldn't part with her, so we adopted her. She has brought my husband and me so much joy.

Sweetie was kept in a home with 60 other animals, and when the house caught on fire, animal control rescued the surviving dogs and cats. Sweetie was going to be euthanized at the shelter because she was 18 years old, only had one eye, four teeth, and was hard of hearing. Friends of Homeless Animals offered to save her life, so she was put in foster care until she was able to find her forever home.

My New Home

Life has not always treated me well. First, I was owned by a hoarder, during which time I lost my left eye. Then, my house burned down, killing eight of my furry friends, and leaving me homeless. As if that weren't enough, then I ended up at a county shelter, where I was slated to be euthanized.

The next thing I knew, I went for a car ride, and found myself in a foster home, with someone who loved me. She took good care of me, and helped me recover from my medical problems. It was great having someone think I was special, but my foster mom wasn't in a position to give me a permanent home. Not long after I went into foster care, a wonderful couple came into my life, and said that I would stay with them forever.

My new parents first wanted to adopt me because they felt pity for me because of everything I had been through, but they soon realized that I didn't need their pity at all. I was more than happy to put my awful past behind me, and to start over with a new beginning. I follow my parents around, snuggle with them on the couch, watch TV with them, and I even smile, which makes them both laugh at how cute I am.

My mom says that I'm very smart, and she is delighted at how I wolf-down my food. I only have four teeth, so I can only eat canned food... my mom loves that I have a good appetite!

I'm doing very well, given that I am more than 18 years old. Whenever I walk around, my tail is always wagging to show everyone how happy I am to be in my forever home. My parents thought they were doing something good for me when they signed the adoption papers, but the truth is, I was just what they needed. I'm there to give them unconditional love, and constant company. We were definitely meant to be together.
