Birthday: August 15th 2007 Likes: To be right with you and to chase anything that moves (especially the CATS!!) Pet-Peeves: To be left alone and NOT to be able to have the cats. Favorite Toy: squeeky toys, tennis balls and the cats. BOL Favorite Food: her dog food (thats all we give her) AND people food WHEN she can steal it.. Favorite Walk: Anywhere I will take her with my powerchair! Best Tricks: She knows sit, stay (when she wants to) and learning down and heal. Arrival Story: We just got Grace on Saturday Jan. 5th. My son and his dad brought her to my house. They stopped at a RV place and my son heard a puppy whinning. Then they heard her crying like in pain. They said they found her along the road and picked her up. He asked if he could go see her/him. They said sure. They said they didn't want or or couldn't keep her. When my son went back there, Grace was laying with her leg in the air with a chain around it. She had got it tangled up in something. She was VERY STARVED and malnourished. My son asked if they could have her and they brought her home.
Tho since bringing her here she started throwing up constantly and we couldn't do much til the vet opened up on Monday. I took her in and she has tested positive for Parvo. The vet feels they can save her. She spent 4 days at the vet. I dont know how I will pay for this as Im a disabled single mother of 4 boys (2 of which are special needs) but I couldn't let her go or put her down. She is a BEAUTIFUL puppy with a GREAT personality. Im hoping to be able to train her or have her trained to be a service dog for me when she is healthy. She is going to be a VERY LARGE dog. Her paws already fill my teenagers hand at almost 5 months old. When the vet weighed her she is ALL BONES. Her spine, hip bones and every other bone are showing and she weighed in at 26 LBS. I can imagine how much she will weigh when she gaines the weight she needs. lol
We are excited about the day she comes home. We are cleaning our house and yard to get the parvo cleaned. Im also asking the vet to check her for worms.
lol My cats are NOT to happy about the addition. They thought when Autumn left to my dads that life would get back to normal and they would run the roost again. lol... Bio: Grace has been adopted by my son's girlfriend at the time. They love her to pieces!! They have a dogpark down the street and take her to it all the time. They also have a chiuhua and Grace and the other dog are best friends and sleep together in Grace's crate.
We didn't have a backyard for her and she was too strong for me or Noah to take out front to go potty. She was to big to be an indoor dog. So she has a good home now. We rescued her, got her thru Parvo and got her weight up then found her a good home. BUT boy do we miss her. The boys keep asking to get her back. Forums Motto: Im ONE year old now!! I love Grace with all my heart but she had gotten to strong for me and I decided she needed a home that had a backyard where she could go out and run and a home where they had more energy, time and money to spend on her. I dont have a backyard she can stay in.
My oldest sons girlfriend's family (well now ex girlfriend because they recently broke up) took her back in Nov I think. They love her so much! They live right down the street from a dog park and take her a lot. They have a little chihuaha and Grace and their chi have become BEST FRIENDS. They even sleep together in her crate at night.
When I got a Christmas card from the family, Grace's picture was on the card!! NOT even their chihuaha's picture was on it.. But Grace's was.
So I feel better knowing she has a good home and not stuck in the house a lot with me as much as I loved her.
I DID get to dogsit her when they went to Disneyland for a week! She came here to stay at our house.
I will update more when I can when I hear more about Grace.
When we first got her and started taking her for rides in the van, we had to LIFT her in the van and MAKE her get in.. She would pull and back up and DIDN'T want to go in..
NOW... She just sees me getting my purse AND DEFINITLY sees my keys She is allllllll over me and jumping on me and barking and talking and knocking me down. lol . THEN she is pulling me to the van even tho I am pulling her back trying to get her to HEAL.. She has tripped me a few times because of my balance. She cant wait to get to the van. I make her SIT when we get to the van and WAIT when I open the side door and NOT get in til I say LETS GO. lol THEN she JUMPS FAR INTO the van. lol
I need to find a way to anchor her in the van. My van is HUGE (like a 15 passenger van without forward facing seats) and so she walks back and forth in the van. Sometimes lays down for a minute or two then gets up again.
Im also working on her NOT getting out til we say Lets go or OK.
Usually its just to take Nathan or the boys to school or pick them up but I did take her into town Monday to run errands. I was hoping the vet was open so I could get her weighed but I figured they probably weren't being Memorial Day and it was on the other side of town so I didn't go. I didnt have the gas money to go.
Just thought I would share how she loves the rides now.
She is going to be a BIG girl.. I was at Petco on Sunday and there was another lady with a GSD there getting groomed. Her dog was 6 YRS old. I didn't have Grace with me, but Grace is AS big or BIGGER than her dog!! I really want to get Grace weighed again. I feel she is above 60 lbs, maybe close to 70 and she is only 9 months old. I think I have a mini horse on my hands. bol.
