You all getting old is not all that great. Since I am pushing 16 things are going down hill. We had to make a trip to see the "Jewish Vet"(he says pork is bad for the pancreas) yesterday. The mass in my bladder has gotten larger. I now have a new antibiotic and a new pain med. In five days I start on something that is special for tumors.

You all know it is OK. I still have a great life with my peeps. Great house (which is mine) nice grounds with squirrels, plenety of treats and food. but most important TOTAL LOVE.

Then there is the thron in side that little bratty thing named Luci. What a pain she has become. But you know then it is not all bad because she brought a very comfy bed with her that I sleep in most of the time.

It is time for potty break. I love all of you and thanks for keeping us close.

Well I thought it was bad enough when SHE became certified. Now Diary of the Day. OMD this has gone to her head. You all please -- I need all the paw holding I can get. Her head is as big as a Saint Bernard's.

Congratulations Luci

There was a celebration at my house last night. Luci and Mack passed the Canine Therapy Course. Luci is now a Certified Therapy Dog. Not sure about the meaning, but I do know she is certifiable.

Seriously, they will be doing some wonderful work. Don't tell Luci, but I am really proud she is my little sister.

Later ya'll. It was noisy last night and I need to catch a nap.

Just thought I would give you all the latest.

First, if you can't feel it--it is hot here. 23 consecutive days with temperatures above 90. Now I am telling you with this fur coat I wear it is really warm. But I have the coolest spot in the house -- under the big bed up next to the a/c duct.

On another note -- the M&G. Can you imagine how humiliating it was to have to wear that costume (it was a nightmare). Next year I am going as a "Westie". As "the Queen" I am definitely above such!! When we got home, I put my paw down and said that was it. But all in all it was a real nice trip. I got to meet some new pals. Rudy is really cool, and that Romeo is a real good looking guy too. Luci told me she thought Vinny was just hot, hot hot!!! I had to make certain MRW new who was "the Queen". Then there's "my" Sparky. He bought me another very beautiful necklace. He knows the way to my heart is BLING. It was good to catch up with Jolly, Annabelle, Darby, Bailey Rose on the latest in girlie things. The parents raised a lot of money for SE Westie Rescue while drinkin a considerable mount of wine.

Luci update: She is staying and that is OK. We have talked and she understands the rules--What is mine is mine and what is hers is mine also!! To tell the truth -- she is really cute and I love stealing her toys and treats and taking them under MY big bed. She has learned how to jump on furniture as well as how to jump on the high bed (she jumps to a chair and then the bed). We think she has springs in her hind legs.

Think it's about time for a nap. Later ya'll

She Did It

Yeap -- you all know by now. There is ANOTHER LWD in MY house.

What to do I said. Ignore her and she will go away -- NO that has not worked. I have heard conversations -- she is probably HERE TO STAY. Now I ask you, is this really fair? I have been the only child for almost all of my life. Now she is wearing my clothes, eating MY treats and even MY special food!!!!!!!!!!! Hmmmmmmmmmmmm see if I'll chase the squirrels anymore.

Her name is "Luci". I drew the line when it came to MY space under the big bed. That is off limits. I keep all kinds of special things there and SHE will not go there. She made one attempt and that was it. The gloves came off and she got the message. I don't touch her bed and she stays away from the big bed.

I will say I am still top dog. I get to do everything first. They did take her for a car ride with out me. But you know I have been on so many car rides, it was OK. I know we will be taking a big trip soon and I will have to show her the ropes on traveling.

Thanks for listening. Just needed some ears to bark with for a few.

Mwah Dixie

Thanksgiving Day

You all just won't believe my day.

I got to go the country for Thanksgiving. You see my skinbro lives about 20 miles away on a creek (you have seen my picture there). There is a big front and back yard and no fences. Here's the bad part--there were other d-o-g-s. Now it is OK that my bro has two yellow labs (both girls). But then it felt like invasion of the body snatchers- there were to mixed giant somethings and another very large shepadoodle (belongs to my Aunt Marti) that was totally uncontrollable. Then the King Charles whatever showed up. THe KC was an impossible spoled baby(10 months old) We played great together then the skeet shooting started and she went to pieces. This I had no patience for. What's a little gunfire?

We had a ton of food -- FRIED turkey is sooooo good. I don't think I will eat for at least two days. Oh yes the baked turkey was pretty good too. Mom wouldn't let me have any ham!!!!!!!!!!! Then there was oyster dressing, and SWEET POTATOES (I love them)

I really liked the big space and I could just go about checkiing everything there was. SOo many different scents -- deer, rabbit, raccoon, possum, field mice -- you name it in the country they have it all. Just what us Westies enjoy. Sniffing out all those things. Mom said I was exhausted because I sat in her lap on the drive home and didn't wigglle.

Now let me tell you about exhausted -- not only did I do all that ground sniffing, bu to get into the main house there 20 steps up. ANd yes there were three staircases.

I love the country but the stairs killed this old girl. I did tell my bro next year have the elevator installed or at least a dumbwatier for me to us!!!

That's it for this time.

Hope you all had as much fun as I did.

It was just wonderful seeing all of my pals in Mackinac.   Everyone was so friendly and I really did behave myself (after the first day).  The trip on the ferry was neat and I took a nap.   We saw lots of horses and things on the Island.  But best of all was being with all you guys!  Mom tellos me we will do that again in about a year.  Yippee!!!!!!!!!The Mackinac M&G was a long trip for me.  But no my Mom thought it should be longer.  Soooo we went on to Toronto, then Rochester to see Mr and Mrs. Morgan and Mr. and Mrs. Wendy/Boo (But guess who stayed at the hotel)  I didn't get to see my guy!!!!!Then off to a place close to NYC called Cold Springs -- that's where TCAF lives.  We went to the Depot for dinner and visited with Ms Attie and himself.   That was really neat - there was a cat there and I wanted to catch it.  But Nooooo that was not aloud either.  We took a nice walk over to the Hudson River -- it is really pretty.  My Mom and Mack went to West Point the next day.  Yeap -- I got to rest at the hotel.  Back in the car the next day we went.   Off to Gettysburg to look at all of those monuments and battlefields.   I found it all very boring, but the adults seemed very interested in that stuff.    Friday night at the hotel  the neatest thing was I saw my first bunny.   I wanted to chase, but Mom said if I were off leash she would never see me again.  BUt I would have caught a bunny!!!!!!!!!!!Then the worst part was we had to drive over 600 miles to make it home Saturday night.Ya'll take care -- I love you all Dixie -- The Southern Belle

My Thoughts

I have never written about the family I have had. Maybe it is time.

First, when my Mom and Dad got me they knew they wanted a little girl and her name would be Dixie. Why?? There had been a for a short time another Dixie. How???? Well they had a boy Westie named Mackey. Mackey and Bunny produced a litter of five beautiful Westies. Dixie was the puppy Mom and Dad picked. She lived with them for about six months. Dad loved her very much, but they just had to down size the number of dogs they had(four large dogs and two Westies were just a little much) After much interviewing and reference checking, Dixie went to live on a farm in Northern Virginia. She had a wonderful life and was very much loved.

My Dad missed her -- and wanted another Dixie. Several years passed and then bingo they found me.

When I came to live with them they had Sasha, a mutt (now known as a Labradoodle) and Mackey (the other Westie) . Sasha was very, very old (16) and not in the best of health. He was very crabby and didn't really like me. A week after I moved in he went to the Rainbow Bridge. I thought my mom was going to the Rainbow Bridge as well. She loved him so and he was her faithful, loyal companion for all those years.

Then there was Mackey (it is really odd-- we shared the same birthday (December 26th)-- The product of a Missouri Puppy Mill. He was sweet and so much fun. He loved his tennis balls and would keep them hidden all around the house and in the backyard. What a sight to see him go sailing off the deck to chase after them. Mackey, had all the allergies on the planet and Mom was always working with the Vet to keep them undercontrol. We were great friends , but I was the boss! Write after Mackey's 12th birthday he started acting strange. Stumbling down the steps, falling over things and just odd stuff. Mom thought he was just getting a little different in old age. Then the Vet man checked him out and found he was severely diabetic and was going blind. It was a very difficult time for Mom as my Dad had left us just a few months earlier. In the end Mom made the decision that Mackey's life was not what it should be and was never going to improve. In February 2002 he left us and is now at the Rainbow Bridge.

That is part of my story. This is long but it was time to write this.

Dixie reflecting on the past. I am so fortunate to have a Mom that takes such good care of me and am so thankful for all of my friends on Westies Unites.
