Arrival Story:
My German Shepherd was a bit lonely when I was at work, so I wanted a small dog to keep her company - a small dog which was big in mind. And I found Ponny by sheer luck. The Lancashire Heeler is a rare breed, and just when I started searching for a puppy there was one available - in the only litter born in the country that year, kept back by his breeder until a suitable new owner might come along since he already was a tough little guy who needed an experienced owner. He came home with us, and is a giant in a small, but sturdy body. When my wonderful shepherd became ill with cancer, he came with us to the vet - sitting by her side, comforting her, and watching to see if the vets might do something she was scared of - then he would go up to the vet, and make sure they knew he was there. Now he is the protector of my new dog, cattledog Kane, who already is twice the size of his big brother.
Bio:
"Ponny" - which is Norwegian for "pony" because he reminded me of a round, little pony when he was small - should really have been named "Napoleon" - since he is a conqueror by nature.
He is a courageous little dog who does not back away from anything, be it horses, cows, moose or huge dogs, but who also is sweet to children and old ladies!
He has a nice show career, being a champion and Norwegian Winner three times over, and has also competed in agility, obedience and rally obedience.
Most of all, he is a great friend with one of the most special personalities I have ever met in a dog. If you could say that a dog has great integrity, that would be Ponny.
He has intense light brown eyes that on occasions looks almost golden, like the eyes of an eagle. That, and his long tail carried proudly like a banner, are his signature trademarks.
