Louie came to us strictly by accident. I had been searching the pounds looking for a dog for some one else when I came upon Louie. I loved him, but having 5 dogs I wasn't looking to add another. I figured being a boxer he would be adopted soon and banned myself from the site. The day after Christmas thoughts of Louie popped into my head so I just had to see if he had been adopted. I was shocked when I seen he was still there. The next morning I checked again and yep still there, but was going to be euthanized that day if he wasn't adopted. I immediately started checking boxer rescues, but everyone was full. What could I do I had to save the poor guy, couldn't let him die there. I did the last ditch effort and called my mom asking her if she would mind either keeping him or fostering him until I could find a permanent home for him. Mom agreed so off we went to pick him up. When we got there our hearts quickly sank after seeing the big sign on his kennel listing him as dog aggressive. We knew we couldn't take the chance since my mom has dogs. We stayed awhile and watched him, but something didn't seem right. The dog beside him was constantly trying to attack him, but he never once reacted still we knew we couldn't risk it. We left went to get some food, but couldn't get him out of our heads so we decided we would get him and figure things out later if it turned out that he was aggressive. On the ride home he insisted he sit on my husbands lap and you could see him instantly starting to form a bond. By the time we got him to my parents you could tell this dog would not let us leave. When we did try to leave him he went absolutely crazy. We knew this would be to much for my parents to handle so Louie came home with us. We were terrified about what would happen when we got him home, but he instantly got along with all the other dogs and we all couldn't be happier.
Louie came from the same high kill dog pound as Lilly and Lola.
When we had returned to adopt Louie we talked to one of the workers there and he told us the owner had called them to her house to pick Louie up. Supposedly she had only owned him for 2 weeks. She said she had just got 3 new dogs and that he was attacking them all. I don't believe her story one bit especially since we brought him into a strange house with 5 dogs who were all over him and he has never tried to attack any of them. The worker we talked also did not really believe this woman either. Believe me there are plenty of nasty things I would like to say about her, because of her a big sweetheart of a baby was almost killed. Louie is in awful shape right now he weighs less than 50 lbs. is covered in scars, bruises, and has some terrible bite wounds on him, but he still is a big lovable baby. He will let you do anything to him even if it hurts. All he wants to do is be constantly held and by your side. He is very well behaved, house broke, and is an absolute joy to walk on a leash. We are very blessed to have him in our lives.
I've been so busy lately learning all sorts of new things that I haven't been able to write about all my new experiences. It sure is amazing how much your life can change in just a few weeks.
Last Sunday it was really warm and mom and dad kept talking about this beach thing. I had no ideal what on earth the beach was, but Lilly seemed really excited. We went out to potty and then mom and dad headed us to the car. Oh boy Lilly and I were both over joyed about this. We get into the car and I begin to wonder what new adventure awaits and where we are going. Then my excitement comes to an abrupt halt. Oh no what if they are taking us to that terrible scary place that's cold and damp with all the cages and crying dogs? I look at Lilly, but she doesn't seem worried so I try to relax. After what seems like an eternity the car finally stops, mom and dad put on our leashes and take us out. Hmm this place smells different and I don't see any buildings or scary cages no crying dogs either. What could this place be? Lilly is super happy as mom and dad begin to walk us toward this path through the woods. Again my mind starts to wander, I'm excited, but also worried about where this path may be leading us. We come upon a clearing and they lead us to this strange place were the ground is really soft and there's the hugest water bowl I've ever seen with birds swimming in it. Can you imagine birds swimming in an endless water bowl? Lilly suddenly took off and jumped right in so I decided to follow. I ran in and out of the water bowl that mom tells me is called a lake. I still think it's a water bowl though. Then I tried to catch one of the birds, but they were much to fast. After awhile of playing and running around like a pair of crazy pups Lilly stopped and started doing this really strange thing with her feet. I stood and watched for awhile then I tried it out. It was great fun I was throwing the ground all in the air and making a huge hole. After watching Lilly I found out if you dig far enough down the hole will even fill up with water. I love this beach thing it's the greatest place ever with it's endless water bowl, super soft ground, and endless supply of stinky things to roll on. I can't wait to go again. Hey that reminds me I must go talk to mom and dad now and see if they would put one of those water bowls with the birds in it in the house for us. Ok must go beg them now.
