Den-Den Update 06/16/08

Well, Den-Den has been home since Thursday evening. His first day home we thought he was doing well... he was even up and hopping around with his cast. But come Friday morning all he can do is drag himself around. I guess it was the anesthesia they gave him while they did the skin graph procedure.

On Friday the Doctor told us she noticed a smell coming from the wound and that he had a lot more puss than what was expected. Because of this, she decided that we have to go back every day for one week for them to change his bandages and assess his skin graph.

In case you're wondering, a skin graph is used to help grow skin back over a wound that is too severe for stitches. Den-Den most likely will not grow fur back on his foot and, despite the skin graph, his foot will be slightly deformed. Though they said it shouldn't interfere with his ability to walk.

He's eating, drinking, finally going to the bathroom... he's been staying in our bedroom and chewing on things... e_e But all in all, he's still a happy puppy. He's not showing signs of depression at all, which is good. And since I worked at PetsMart and we brought him to Banfield, Den-Den now has his own fan-club that flocks over him when we bring him in for bandage changes! He's definitely living the dream, lol.

We don't know how long the skin graph will take... and I don't think the doctor's know, either. I think they're just checking and checking so they can give us a better estimate. But that's okay. I like taking care of him! Lol. I get to brush out his undercoat, give him greenies...
