Arrival Story:
We were looking for a dog to give to our boys for Christmas. My husband owned Huskies as a boy and had a special fondness for the breed, so we were on the hunt for a Husky or Malamute. We also needed to get our new pooch from a shelter b/c none of the Husky rescues "in" our area actually adopt out to our area. So the hunt was on. We had a few leads off Craigslist, but they all fell through. Then we found one at a local shelter and the adoption was all set. The day before we are set to pick him up, we get a call that the dog suddenly bit someone and they would not adopt him to us since we had kids. =( Our next option was to drive 4 hours away to look at two more dogs. A ten month old puppy and Hiro. We got to the puppy first and were prepared to take him home when someone at the shelter said another couple had expressed interest in him and we would have to wait until they heard from them. At 5 minutes until their "time was up", they called and said they were coming to get him. At this point I am heartbroken from 3 failed adoptions, but I held out hope that we had saved the best for last. It turns out we did. We drove to see Hiro (named Eskimo Jim or Jake then- the shelter couldn't remember) and knew he was destined to come home with us. In and out of many shelters for his escape artist ability from a kennel, we knew he needed a good home that would do what it took to keep him safe and happy. Since we were planning on building a kennel designed specifically for our new dog we hoped we would be able to give him a mostly indoor home and build him a proper outdoor run. Hiro came home with us that day and went to a board and train program that helped keep him hidden from our boys and gave us a set of rules and guidelines to lay down from day one. The transition has been seamless and we couldn't have asked for a better match for our family!

Mom heard from the shelter!

Mom heard from the man at the shelter where my new prospective brother is. He said that the people -specifically the woman- who took him (*ahem*jerks*ahem*- kibble cough sorry!) decided that she wanted more of a "lap dog". WTH?!? Who looks at a husky and says, oh yes, he'd be a great lap dog...weirdo's. SO their initial response to this yearning for a lap dog- "well, we were just going to let him go outside b/c it's too far to drive back to the shelter" WTH again!?!?! Mom is peeved as all get out! They are less than 90 minutes from that shelter- Mom drove 4+ hours to get there!!! PLUS- I know that we huskies are simply fabulous in the snow BUT we are even more fabulous with a warm snuggly family to come back indoors to! He is in northern Ohio- it's cold up there (well except for today- it was downright spring-like!)- and he's just a pup! Anyway, the man said there is a hold tag on his kennel and he is listed as not adoptable under any circumstance until we get there for our first big meeting.

So yes, that means mom will be driving up to Akron this Saturday (AGAIN) and back- that's a total of 9 hours in the car for me folks- good thing I *love* car rides! The man said there is a pretty girly husky up there too, perhaps I can persuade mom to get me a girlfriend and a brother...hmmm....

~Mom says no...le sigh =P

Gotta go to the vets tomorrow and get rabies booster and bordatella (blech) and then training on Thursday and go get (hopefully, as long as Hiro behaves) Zorro on Saturday!

Awoooooooot!!

New Brother?!?!

So, my mom told me this weekend that I might get a new brother- to top it off, she meant the furry kind of brother too! She told me that while they were out of town this weekend, they received a phone call. It was from a guy at the pound they went to right before they came to see me. They had seen a young pup there and thought he was really cool and laid back (just like me!) and wanted to bring him home (hey, I'm glad they didn't, that means they came to see me!!) however, there was drama surround some peoples who said they thought they might want him (commitment-phobes) so Mom and Dad had to wait until those other people had a chance to come and get him. At five minutes until they were going to take him home, someone called and said they were coming to get him. Mom and Dad were really sad (but still hopeful b/c they had a feeling they saved the best pooch for last =)

Fast forward to this weekend, the nice man at the pound calls Mom and Dad and tells them the commitment-phobes are bringing the little guy back because he's "too big"...duh... do people send kids back when they get too big? I'll have to ask...

This shelter is a *k-i-l-l* shelter and every "return" (like it's freaking UPS in there) is another mark on a pooch's record, so the man wanted to know if Mom and Dad would consider taking him in. Mom needed some convincing- mostly b/c she was worried that we might get into too much trouble together, but eventually she knew it would be better to rescue this little guy and get me someone to play with while they are gone so I won't be lonely- I'm very sociable =D So far though they have had a hard time getting ahold of the people at that shelter, but if all goes well, they'd like to have my new brother by the end of this week.

Awwooooooot!!!
