Arrival Story: One day, in October 1990, I found myself trotting along the highway in the California desert *trot* *trot* *trot*, all by myself, and not really sure how I got there, but it was hot and I was thirsty. A nice lady pulled over to the side of the road and invited me to get in her car, and I just love people, so I did! I had no collar or tags on, and was still furry puppy-ish, not even a year old yet. She took me home with her and I struck the jackpot! There were lots and lots of other doggies at her house and lots of kitties too, and she turned out to be a rescuer.
She named me "October" because she found me in that month. (That wasn't my Real Name, but she was nice, so I didn't want to be rude and tell her that). In early 1991, the city where she lived came out to her house (she worked full time and so all day long, all of us would play and run around and destroy furniture *unsupervised*, it was so much fun!!), and told her "you have too many animals and you have to find homes for some of them". So, The Doris Day Foundation here in California was contacted, and I was put into their computer system to match me up with my Furever Home. Around the same time, Mommy was looking for a female GS mix, who loved cats, was a year old, would be quiet enough to live in an apartment, had short fur, and would like to ride in cars. *Voila*! That was me! ME ME ME! Wow! So my foster Mom took me in the car all the way to my new Mommy's house, on a leash that was looped around my neck (I had no collar still) into her apartment. I looked at her and she looked at me, and we fell in love. My foster Mommy was sad to leave me, but she knew I was going to have a wonderful life there, and that was what I had for almost 17 years! Mommy and I cuddled on the couch right away and I felt totally at home - we belonged together and we both knew it. We were never apart for more than a few hours every day from that day forward. I had to go to Obedience School though because I had didn't even know what the word "No" meant, and had to learn to NOT hold down her kitties BOL, because at my foster home I did that all day long - FUN! Mommy understood that my Real Name *wasn't* "October", and she was studying German at the time and named me "Greta", which was my Real Name. I was also named fur Greta Garbo, because Mommy loves the old movie stars. I never mellowed out furry much honestly, and was a furry happy exhuberant doggy into my teens. She has some of my fur in a nice locket she always wears and I visit her often in her dreams - humans love that! Woof! I can't wait to be with her again, and I watch over her all the time. Oh, and I love swimming in the lotus pond in Heaven, and teaching swimming classes to all the new doggies here. The lotus pond is fabulous!
Bio: The mission of the dog---I say it with all reverence---is the same as the mission of Christianity, namely, to teach mankind that the universe is ruled by love.
=================================
In my memory, Mommy has sponsored 5 dogs at the wonderful no kill shelter near our home - they have all been adopted and I hope she will move soon so she can adopt another doggy of her own - they changed the rules in our apartment to "No Dogs" and it makes me mad - if I were there I'd bite that landlord!
Forums Motto: I Love Everyone In The Whole World
I hope Mommy will be okay and stay busy - she has a lot of movies planned she is going to - but I know this time of year makes her very anxious. She did finally give a really nice, large unopened box of peanut butter biscuits that belonged to me to a nice lady who lives in a camper near our house with her cute dog, Daisy. She just couldn't give them away until very recently - Daisy is a very pretty, friendly black and white dog, just my size, and Mommy got to feed her the first biscuit from the box. Daisy took it and then lay down in the grass and held it down with one paw, as she munched away on it, just as I would. They look just like human cookies and I am so glad Daisy is enjoying those now - she's really nice and I just know she and I would be wonderful friends if I was Down There too. I will be keeping an eye on her from now on - lots of friends to watch over, being a gaurdian angel dog is very special and important.
I was tagged by my cute furiend Patches to say what kind of ice cream I look like and then tag other furriends to do the same. Hmmm well I think I look like Butterscotch/Chocolate Marble. That sounds very tasty! I am going to tag;
That was so furry sweet of him and I am furry honored. I am to list seven things about myself and then tag seven furriends. Hmmm, let me think...
1. When I was young in my early years, people sometimes said I looked like a little brown bear - I liked that! (I'm not very little tho at almost 60 lbs).
2. I loved to ride in the car and was very protective of it! I had a nice blanket on the back seat I would snuggle in and take naps and also a nice water bowl on the floor - oh so comfy and my home away from home!
3. Once I was taken into a night club briefly and Mommy's friends in bands all came outside to admire and pet me - wonderful fun!
4. I destroyed a lot of fuzzy toys with squeakers in them - I loved to shake them and tear them open - in fact I destroyed a lot of things in our home - sharp sharp teeth WOOFS!
5. I loved to play catch with my toys - if the humans would throw them for me I would leap up and catch them in my mouth perfectly - awesome!
6. I love to hold kitties down with my front paws - it's the best thing ever! I always did it lovingly but they never liked it very much - why not??
7. I danced on command and I mean even in the car - if I heard the word "Pogo!" I would do the pogo dance (jumping up and down in one spot, bumping my back against the wall at home, or the car seat) in time to the music on the radio. Wonderful!
I tag Patches, Ralph, Critter, Norman, Smoochie, Tessa, and Mick Jagger. Thank you Sherlock - this was fun!
