It would seem not. Last night we got a thunderstorm at the Casa Samoa and I was kept awake by that awful crackling and whooshing and booming that I hate so much.

After an hour or so of that - I got tired of it and told Dubs to go wake up Mama so she could come out and hold my paw. Sometimes having a human around can make a pup feel better about things.

Mama did get up, and sat there mumbling about "being kept up half the night" but at least she sat up for a while with us. I had just started to get comfortable again when she got up and went back to bed, though.

Savvy was snoring and Dubs was tucked into her blankets waiting to see what I was going to do when all of a sudden there was a terrifically loud whoosh and thump. I started barking a warning with gusto and kept it up for a half hour or so until Mama FINALLY got up again and made me go outside. I had a quick look around and came back to the door - to my relief she was still sitting there. She let me in and went back to bed again.

Well, this is a dog who knows when it is not appreciated. Turns out the whoosh and bang was the tree in the backyard splitting itself in half and landing on the roof! But Mama - even though I tried to tell her! - goes back to bed.

So did I. I was tired after all that guard work.

But was she surprised when she woke up this morning and there was half a tree resting on the house! You bet!

Think she will listen the next time?

It would be so useful if the people could speak dog. For dog's sake!
I'm glad you are all OK, those storms are very scary. I normally sleep on the floor in the dark corner of the bedroom during them...and also fireworks. I'm so glad you are OK, pal.

I think you and the crew need to start digging an underground house so that you will be safe when the trees decide to attack. I think Cheney was probably lurking around your house and the tree was trying to stop him. He was probably one of those trees from Lord of the Rings who was fighting the bad guys. I'm so glad that you were intelligent enough to stay awake to warn everyone. Humans--their priorities are so silly. I actually wrote a diary about it yesterday. It seems that putting a photo of my handsome paw on my page is not a high priority around here--humans need to learn what is important.
