any sort of ball or stick, 2 pairs of old shoes that we gave her to keep her from chewing up our shoes (it worked!), a squeeky alligator, and a long stuffed snake

Favorite Food:
steak! treats!

Favorite Walk:
any sort of trail where she can run off-leash.

Best Tricks:
high-fives and high-tens

Arrival Story:
We had talked about getting a dog for a long time but the timing was never quite right. We have long commutes to work so we didn't think it would be fair for a dog and during the last year we've been building our house addition mostly on our own so our free time was non-existant. In August 2004 my husband was in a bad car accident that gave us quite the scare. That scare was part of what helped us to decide that we didn't want to wait any longer for our pup and so we adjusted our lives to provide a dog-friendly situation and make room for Jenny! We chose a female because it's the only name we could agree upon. My husband wanted a name that he wouldn't feel silly calling when he goes hunting with her when she's bigger.

Bio:
Currently Jenny spends her days at work with my husband. She just loves car rides and will happily be co-pilot to any event!

Jenny's Adventures...

SNOW! SNOW! SNOW!

Here I was all worried about Jenny being cold outside in the frigid Minnesota winters... Boy was I wrong. It appears to be her favorite season thus far. I knew her fur would keep her pretty warm but I never thought she'd be rolling around in the snow and lying down on it as though it was a nice warm comfy bed. She can't get enough of it! The only problem is the snow gets caught in her paws and then she runs funny so I just bought some boots for her. It took her a good month to get used to her name tag on her collar so it should be pretty interesting to watch her become accustomed to boots. How long do you think the first set will last before she takes at least one off and loses it on our snowshoe jaunts?

Every Day's a Party!

Jenny recently was spayed and it seems that even surgery can't make her sad. She has the greatest attitude I've ever seen! I love this about Jenny but it can also make discipline difficult at times. She doesn't like when you are mad at her and will give herself a time-out in her kennel but no more than 5 minutes later she'll saunter on out with a big grin on her face as if to say, "ok, I'm done with kennel time and am ready to play again". She easily forgets about how mad you were at her.

Someone once told us that "Everyday is a party for a Golden!" and I really think that's true!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Over Thanksgiving we went up North to my mother-in-law's bed & breakfast just outside of Lake Itasca State Park (where the Mississippi River begins). Boy did Jenny have a blast! She was able to roam free all weekend and there were 6 other dogs there as well (all labs or goldens).

All 7 dogs got along just great, with one exception... little Jenny got a little jealous when her favorite dog there, Abbey, began playing with another dog, Zoe (Abbey's sister). I think Jenny thought she was bigger than she really is and she tried to tell Zoe who was boss; I think Zoe may have won that battle in the end. When Jenny did have Abbey's full attention she was sure to follow her everywhere she went all the while playfully biting her tail. I'm surprised that Abbey put up with it!

Jenny also got a little practice in hunting this weekend. She retrieved her first bird (as a training exercise) and she did a really good job! She sure did want to retrieve more after that!

She also saw her first snowfall and she seemed to just love it! Check out her holiday picture! She tends to get snow all over her nose and whiskers and can look like santa at times!

We got home today and it seems that Jenny may be a little depressed. I think she discovered dog heaven up north in the wilderness and home is not so exciting anymore.
