This poem was attached to my cousin Patches' ashes when she crossed the rainbow bridge. Smoky

If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep;
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle can't be won.

You will be sad, I understand;
But don't let grief then stay your hand.
For this day, more than the rest,
Your Love for me must stand the test.

We've had so many happy years;
What is to come can hold no fears.
You won't want me to suffer so,
The time has come, please let me go.

Take me where my needs they'll tend,
But please stay with me 'til the end.
To hold me close and speak to me,
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time you will agree,
It was a kindness done for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I'm saved.

Please do not grieve that it was you,
Who had this painful thing to do.
We've been so close, we two,
Through the years;
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Thank you for well wishes

hi- I am smoky, and I crossed the rainbow bridge on september 26,2011. I want to thank everyone for the warm welcome and gifts and pup pal friendships. Thank you for picking mom's story up as diary entry of the day, it started as a goodbye letter to me and she decided to post it here on dogster. I knew she let me go out of love that's why I don't want her to feel sadness because I know I'll see her again. A dear friend of hers led me to the rainbow bridge where I crossed over. Lot of paw hugs and puppy kisses, smoky

All. These years since I picked you over all the puppies in the pen at the save-a-pet adoption faire, you captured my heart. You've been my companion, my friend, my love. You comforted me when I needed you moist and I took care of you when you were sick and hurt.
When we made the decision to let you leave us, it was so hard. It broke my heart. When Greg told me you thanked me for releasing you , I cried even more. I cry even now-Ive loved you so.
Thank you for being my friend and my guardian .thank you for being when I was happy and sad. And I was happy to be there for you, and thank you for finding my new guardian.
I love you, mommy
