Arrival Story:
When I was 18, I married and lost my 11 year old Boxer all within about three weeks. I had wanted another Boxer, as my parents had had since their teens. I could not afford the ones advertised in our local paper, so I checked out the Humane Society of Oregon. I walked with tunnel vision down the aisle, sad to look to my left or right at all the dogs who did not have someone to love them. When I saw, out of the corner of my eye, a size that looked to be Boxer in nature I looked to my right and there was Bandit. As I approached his pen, it was labeled Pit Bull. I decided not to look at that instant, believing that Pit Bulls are mean. However, looking down at him, he was wagging his tail so much that his whole back half was wiggling. I read more about him. He came from a family with a boy who became allergic to him. I asked for him to come outside and play with me. From that moment on we were stuck together. He was my boy for my 19th birthday present. He would not growl at a human all his life. He would not bite another dog, even if it was biting him! He was amazing and will be remembered for always. The tears he sat and counted over the years, the laughter he heard, the laughter he caused, and the companionship he gave he did so without a complaint. He always had a warm ear that would listen and a heart that loved everyone. What a sweet boy we had!

Well, Bandit, for the third time in two months I have had one of your tail hairs stuck in my right heel! Yes, actually stuck and yes, it hurts! How odd... I hope this is not a testament to my housekeeping ability. I am convinced that it is you trying to get my attention. Don't worry, Hazel is here but you have not been forgotten. You will always be on my mind, old dog. Perhaps you could think of another way to say hello, rather than a tail hair getting in my foot.
