Wow!!! I am so stoked. My foster mom took Carrie and Coop and me to Runyon Canyon yesterday to go hiking. FART to all of you who said a basset can't hike...sure I was slow and steady, and sometimes I would follow other dogs and people in the opposite direction instead of walking with my own crew...but I hiked! In fact, I did so much running in the wrong direction after different dogs that I probably did a whole mile more than the other two. I think my foster mom was surprised how fit my tubby little hound body was. I looooooooooved hiking and I want to go again. Of course, I slept on the car ride home. I looked so cute that my foster mom called her mom (who loves me) to tell her how cute I was. How do I know all of this? He he he, because I was PRETENDING to be asleep...suckers! See I looked all passed out and smushed face like the hush puppies dog, but I slowly made my way from the back into the passenger seat, "asleep" the whole time. And they call basset hounds stupid?!
More later!

Dear Diary (and fans),
Happy Holidays! I took a few days off from blogging to be with my foster family, but now I'm back!
So we didn't really celebrate Christmas and I didn't get any good presents (unless you count a few extra treats, and a loving foster home and new bed...whatever), but I'm keeping my paws crossed for a few New Year's gifts. In case you're wondering, my wish list includes hours of snuggling, lots of food, a home of my own, a king-size human bed with fuzzy linens, and a Wii. I don't know what that last thing is, but all the boys my age want one.
My foster mom says I'm starting to show some of my true hound colors. Like, for example, when we're walking and a want to play with a cat or the feral peahen that lives on our block, I act really stubborn and refuse to budge so we can't go on with our walk until I get what I want. Unfortunately, my foster mom is also very stubborn and because she's bigger and older and in charge, she usually wins. I'm working on that.
This week my foster mom was dog sitting at our home, so I made a new friend! His name is Hamlet, he's a mutt, and he's about my age. We both had fun chasing Cooper with the ball. I love Hamlet just like I love every other dog, cat, and human I meet.
Today I chased Caroline and Cooper in the park again. I never catch them, but I never get sick of that game, either! I've gotten really good at being off leash in the park (it's safe and enclosed) and listening to my foster mom when she calls me. I still don't understand why Caroline and Coop are so obsessed with squirrels...why chase bushy tails when you can stop and marvel at Christmas lights???
It's bed time, so I'll sign off for now.
Love,
Hank

Sorry I missed a day yesterday. I was enjoying the weekend!!
Today I went to meet a family that lives down the block; they might be interested in adopting me, but they won't decide until after the New Year. I sniffed around their house and took a walk with their teenage daughter. She seemed pretty cool and gave me some treats. They have a cat, and we got along just great, so now there is confirmation that I'm good with cats! I acted really mellow and loving so hopefully they can tell what a nice guy I am and will make me part of their family!
Other than that, I spent my morning snuggling, cuddling, and hugging...awesome!!
More soon. Love, Hank

Not too much to report today. It's really cold, and I have a lot more energy today. I played in the park with the the other dogs this morning. Then my foster mom left me at home for most of the morning by myself, and I did fine! I wasn't scared and I didn't bark at all. I just took a nap! That doesn't mean I wasn't happy to see her; when she came home...I gave her lots of hugs and kisses.
I added a video and some new pictures to my profile. My foster mom says I'm not photogenic and you have to watch the video to see how cute I really am.
Oh, I have gas because I took a few bites of Caroline's food today. I'm not supposed to eat it, but Ma didn't put the gate up! What's a hound to do?
That's it for now!
Love,
Hank

This morning I woke my foster mom up by bellyflopping onto her!!! We're not allowed in the bed, but I know she doesn't mind morning snuggles, so I extreme-snuggled by taking a running leap and landing across her stomach. She couldn't stop laughing and that made me wag my tail!
I'm such a happy guy. This morning my foster mommy and uncle took me, Caroline, and Cooper to the park again. We met up with the dog pack there, and I had fun chasing the other dogs around the park while they ran away with tennis balls. It sure is hard keeping up with Caroline and Cooper with their long legs, but that doesn't put a damper on my spirit! It's fun just chasing them.
Caroline has finally gotten over her bitterness and likes to play with me now. Jumping, running, and wrestling with her was my favorite part of the morning! My other favorite parts were walking, napping, and eating breakfast.
More later!

On Sunday, December 16, a nice lady with two other dogs came and picked me up from the basset ranch. At first, I didn't want to leave, but I got really happy when she let me in the car! I slept in the back seat for almost the whole ride, and then when we were almost home, I sneaked into the front seat and weaseled my way into the nice lady's lap! She wasn't delighted to have a 55 lb. basset in her lap, but she couldn't resist my hugs and kisses.
At home, I got to run around the huge backyard and sniff everywhere like a hound should! I tried to get on the bed and the couch, but the lady wasn't as nice as I thought and wouldn't let me sleep there...at least she gave me a nice, big, comfy dog bed to rest on. I sniffed, hugged, ate, and slept soooooooooooooooo well that night! My foster mommy even took me out on the town to meet some of her friends, and they loved me, too.
The next day, my foster mom took me and my foster sister, Caroline, to the dog park. I had so much fun with all those other dogs; I get along with everybody! A lot of people said I was reeeeeally cute, and no one could believe I was at a rescue or that anyone would have ever given me up. One family with small children especially liked me, but they're in the market for a puppy. I really liked their kids, though.
The past two days, it's been raining a lot, so I've been napping a lot. Even though I loved the basset ranch, it's nice to finally have a warm bed all to myself!
This morning, we took a walk to the park and met up with the breakfast club to play. I "ran" with Carrie, Cooper, De Chelly, and Tson Tson, but mostly I just strolled around the park by my foster mommy's side.
Well, that's all for now. I need to get back to napping. More to come!
