Arrival Story: As of December 17th, 2007 we do not have Isabella yet. We had been looking for a sister for Sicily for over a year. On November 21st we answered an ad at the Lincoln County Humane Society about a puppy girl for adoption. She had been found in a dumpster and was underweight. We asked alot of questions & just felt like she was "the one". We went through the adoption process & are waiting for the process to be finalized. We are expecting to bring her home on December 23rd!!! Can not wait!!!
On December 23rd, we went to Ruidoso to pick Isabella up and bring her home...finally!!! We were very excited but not sure what to expect from a little girl with such a rough start. When we got there Sicily DID NOT like having to wait in the car, but she did. ..LOUDLY!
The first thing I saw when I walked in the office was a baby gate blocking the office and there was little Isabella jumping up and down...like she was on a pogo stick...lol. I picked her up & said "hi little girl, we have been waiting so long to see you!!!"
I was not ready for how thin she was. I knew that she was in bad shape when they found her, but this was more than I had expected... since she had been at the shelter for six weeks already.
All I could feel was bones! She was so light too! I sat down & put her in my lap because I was afraid to squeeze her to hard, but she was full of love and energy! When I sat down she leaned back on my chest & looked up at me and licked my chin...she stayed just like that for about ten minutes while they got all of the things that we had sent to her (for Christmas) together. They said they had never seen her sit still for that long. I loved her immediately...I knew she was "the right one".
I filled out all the paperwork & picked up all of her things to put in the car before we brought her out.
I had a crate in the back seat. She had other ideas. Sicily was VERY jealous at first. It was a hard adjustment, but Bella is so easy going that she couldn't care less that Sicily was determined to be "alpha". No matter how many times Sicily put her in her place, Bella would role on her back & then inch up to Sicily & lick her face all over, which Sicily loved even though she would never admit it...lol.
Now, only a couple of months later, Sicily is fiercly protective of Bella...though Bella can take care of herself easily.
They love to run from one end of the house or yard to the other as fast as they can. They play tug of war & keep away. Sicily has become much more active and verbal since her new sister has been here. Bella has gained 3 lbs and is now a whopping 8 and 3/4 lbs. She is about two inches taller than Sicily but wieghs almost three pounds less.
We are a very happy family...finally!!!
Thank you SO much Lincoln County Shelter ( Ruidoso, NM ) for putting Bella up for adoption, and for the fantastic care she got until we could bring her home!!!

Oh my goodness!!! Friday... I chased another rabbit...well I thought it was a rabbit. It was black and white...but the funny thing about this rabbit was that it had a really long tail. My mom & sister are always having to chase me into the back two acres ...or the neighbors...and bring me home. I think they think that I am running away, but all I really want to do is chase the "critters" out of the yard! I just want to keep them safe! Anyway, friday, this one rabbit that I chased...got reallly mad & I'm not sure WHAT he did...but man oh man did it STINK!!!!! I STILL STINK!!!! I'm not really that girly or anything, but I cant even stand myself right now!!! When I decided that I had had enough of that stinky rabbit I looked around for home, but I couldn't find it anywhere! I ran to the first place that looked like a front porch, but it was an abandoned building. Two huge black dogs cornered me on that porch for almost 10 hours!!! I could hear my mom & sister calling & calling. I wanted to run to them or bark back , but those two big bullies wouldn't let me. I'm sure they were just doing their job to...protecting...but all of a sudden I was feeling like that stinky rabbit! I was so scared & thirsty. I could hear my mom getting more & more panicky as she looked for me. I didn't know it then but she had even called out the sherriff & the animal shelter to try and find me. I could hear her driving & calling for hours, but I didn't dare even try to move. About 8:45 when the sun was almost gone...I thought for sure that my mom had given up and that I was going to spend my first night outside since I was lost in Lincoln National Forrest last fall ( I was rescued and adopted last November after spending about a month or more on my own in the forrest...SCARY!!!) But then in the disatnce I heard a car driving up that long dirt road from the highway...was it more bad news...or could it be?!!!! I knew that car! It was my mom & sister too!!! I wasn't even afraid to run by those big dogs and neither was my mom!!! She was already out of the car & they were going to get it if they moved even one inch towards me!!! I have never run so fast in my life! My throat was dry from being outside all day & my voice was hoarse, I could barely call out to my mom! She was crying and so was I...then she smelled me! But she held me anyway. We drove home so fast!!! Partly because we were happy , but mostly because I smelled so bad...maybe that was why my throat was sore...anyway...mom rushed me right into the kitchen and into the sink. First she checked me all over for cuts & bites, then she put this awful red juice all over me & let me soak while she rubbed all of my bones & talked softly to me to help me calm down, I was still crying and shaking. She wrapped me up in a big towel & then a blanket and we all sat on the couch and ate chicken noodle soup & snuggled till we fell asleep. For the first time since I was adopted, I didn't run around when I went outside in the morning...I styaed right by my mom & my sister! I just didn't feel like exploring anymore...
