Benny and I stay in the laundry room while Mom and Dad are away. But sometimes I just don't feel like staying in there. There's a whole house out there, ready for exploring!
It all started a couple of months ago. I've always been able to jump that gate they put up. Whenever it's time for my bath I go running for the bedroom to hide under the bed. Sometimes there's a gate in my way, but that doesn't stop me. Heck no. I may be pudgy, but I can jump that thing faster than you can say "stinky pup."
So I started jumping the gate while the 'rents were away. Benny doesn't mind (I think he likes having the room to himself) and I like to lay on the top of the couch, it's much cushier up there. The humans can't do anything about it, because I don't really do anything wrong while I'm out. Unlike my brother, the instigator. I don't think he can get his big beagle butt over that gate without a running start, so I'm on my own out there.
I've found that I can go into the guest room and pull blankets out. And one day, just for fun, I tore apart some sponges and paint supplies that the silly humans had lying around. But that's the extent of my craziness. I just want to nap in the sun. Is that so wrong?

A couple of weeks ago, Mommy and Daddy came home from their errands with a big white dog! They said he had been wandering around our neighborhood and that he had no collar and he looked very friendly.
Benny and I came out to the back yard to check him out. He had fleas and was really skinny, but I thought he was kind of cute, so I hardly growled at him.
Mommy and Daddy gave him a bath (which he didn’t like, I don’t blame him at all, I’m not fond of them myself) and gave him some food and water.
After a day or so, the white dog felt much better and he started telling us he wanted to be inside too! I wasn’t so sure about letting him in, but he was cute. Well, of course since he was a boy dog (if you know what I mean) he had to come in and pee on our walls. But Benny and I told him that wasn’t cool and he stopped!
After awhile, I started to really like this white dog. During back yard play time I would run up to him, put my ears back and play-bow. I think he was starting to like me too!
Unfortunately, Mommy and Daddy said we didn’t have room for three dogs and that we had to find him a nice family. Luck has it that a family wanted him so Mommy and Daddy took him out to live with them.
I sure miss him. He was one good-looking pup. Even if he wasn’t a beagle. Maybe next time, Mommy and Daddy will find a nice hound to bring home!

Mommy and Daddy took Benny and me to lure coursing today. I wasn't sure what was going on but I saw my brother Benny running really fast (for a Beagle) and his ears were flapping and he was barking really loud (as usual). Mommy took my harness off and let me go and I ran as fast as I could ... through the middle of the course. Nobody told me you had to follow the white thing! Mommy ran after me so I turned around and ran to her and flopped over for a belly rub and everybody laughed. I don't think I did it right.
Then Daddy got Benny and let him go and Mommy let me go so I ran after Benny! I chased him as fast as I could. I think he was trying to catch the white thing running on the ground. He didn't catch it, dumb brother. But I didn't catch him either. Mommy says I need to lose some weight before I can catch up to him.
Next time we go to the dog park I'm going to show off my running skills. Everybody needs skills.
