Arrival Story:
MACE BELONGED TO A NEIGHBOR WHO HAD 2 OTHER PITBULLS. THEY RARELY SAW DAYLIGHT, AND ALL LIVED IN ONE CRATE THAT WAS ONLY BIG ENOUGH FOR 1 DOG. ONE DOG GOT SICK, AND BECAUSE THEY NEVER SAW A VET, THEY ALL GOT SICK. I HAD ALWAYS BEEN IN LOVE WITH MACE & WOULD BEG THE OWNER TO LET ME TAKE HIM TO A VET. ALL THE DOGS WERE ABOUT 20 LBS UNDER WEIGHT. FINALLY THE GUY WAS MOVING & HAD TO GET RID OF HIS DOGS. HE SOLD THE OTHER 2 AND TOLD ME IF I WANTED MACE HE WOULD LEAVE HIM WITH ME. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK MACE TO THE VET, LUCKILY HE HAD A CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH & A MONTH LATER I GOT HIM NEUTERED. HE HAS GAINED 20 LBS AND & IS THE MOST WONDERFUL DOG IN THE UNIVERSE. AS WORRIED AS I WAS ABOUT HIS TEMPERAMENT & HOW HE WOULD GET ALONG WITH MY CHIHUAHUA, LITTLEBIT (SHE PASSED AWAY IN MAY 2003) HE WOULDN'T HURT A FLY & HAS ENRICHED MY LIFE GREATLY.

Bio:
I GOT MACE WHEN HE WAS ABOUT 3 OR 4 YEARS OLD - I WAS HIS 4TH OWNER AT THE TIME. HE WAS SOLD SO MANY TIMES BECAUSE, SUPPOSEDLY, MACE COMES FROM A LONG LINE OF "KILLERS", BUT HE IS AS SOFT AS PUDDING. HE WAS ALMOST SOLD TO A DOG FIGHTER, BUT LUCKILY, I GOT HIM INSTEAD - THANK GOD! I PROMISED MACE WHEN HE CAME TO ME, THAT I WOULD NEVER LEAVE HIM, MY BABY BOY IS IN HIS LAST AND FINAL HOME. HE'S A TYPICAL PIT BULL; LOYAL & LOVING - DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE, THESE DOGS ARE GREAT WITH KIDS AND THE BEST COMPANIONS EVER, BUT YOU HAVE TO TREAT THEM RIGHT (JUST LIKE ANY OTHER DOG!) SEPTEMBER 29, 2008 - GOOD NIGHT SWEET MACE

After 7 months of chemotherapy, and a VERY QUICK relapse, my beloved companion crossed that rainbow bridge. Devastation does not describe my feelings. I feel so lucky to have known Mace, and had the time to say goodbye before I had to make my ultimate sacrifice. He will always be the best dog. I hope and plan on another pet in the future, not sure when, but I am left with wonderful and loving memories that I would like to re-create with another best friend.
My loving Mace you will be missed so much, there will always be a freshet of tears for you. I only have wonderful thoughts, and I truly feel I did the best for my "son"shine. I can never convey the happiness Mace brought to me, I just hope he felt the same - I think he did.
I love you Macer!!

Mace will be finishing his chemotherapy soon!!! He's supposed to go next week, then get a 3 - week break. The doc says he may not do the last round of 4 weekly chemos, as it doesn't seem to "make a difference in the long term." My pocketbook will be happy, but I'm even happier for my Mace! He has been such a trooper, and you would never know anything was ever wrong. He has been zip zipping and humping away!
Did you know that neutered dogs still can mount and get "stuck" to other dogs? I have never seen that before, but was quite traumatized to see my Mace attached end-to-end to my brother's dog, Ginger. He looked so helpless and well...stuck! After the shock wore off, and Ginger and Mace "disconnected", I was a little proud of him for de-virginizing himself! Apparently, this is not the first time this has happenend, I've been told. After his diagnosis, Mace must have gotten a new "leash" on life :)! I love saying that, very clever of me, isn't it?
So, please keep sending those good and loving vibes his way, and let's hope for Mace to be around for a longer time than anticipated. He's a "rockstar", as Calli at the vet's office would say!

Peace, Love, and Happiness from Above.

Mace is doing GREAT! He had a much needed bath yesterday. As always he was more interested in biting the water than getting clean. He wears himself out with that! He start choking on the water if I don't stop him. But he loves it so I play with him. He smells much better and his fur is so soft! I'm sure the vet techs at chemo will appreciate his sweet smell ~ as if that will last long. He's still doing well with his treatments, and we are ALL very happy about that. I wonder if he even thinks about the extra treats he's been getting ~ probably not, I think I overdid the treats before ~ he sure does expect them as much as he ever did... Seriously, can you give a dog too many treats? Don't answer that, the answer in this house is NO! As long as he's not overweight or yacking them up later, he will continue (along with his girlies) to get enough to know the treats are not that special ~ just part of his everyday life, a yummier part of his day.
How great are pit bulls??? Anyone who knows their true nature can never come up with enough positive descriptives to answer that question. I'll try:
Pet Bulls are the best, the greatest, the gentlest, kissiest, sweetest, most loving dog. I will stop here, if I continue I won't ever stop.

I LURVE my dog :)
