Arrival Story:
Our dear departed Rosa Rae directed us to Smokey, who was at the Oakland Animal Shelter, even as she was dying. He had the greatest photos on the shelter website and we kept going back to look at them. A month after Rosa died we went to the shelter to see Smokey. The very day we went to the shelter they pulled him off the front lines as he had developed food aggression after being in the shelter too long and that made him "unadoptable". We fought to be able to adopt him and they finally agreed to let us take Smokey home. The rest is, as they say, history!

Bio:
Smokey was found running the streets of Oakland and turned into Oakland Animal Shelter. He was adopted out once and returned for "being too high energy"---he was a puppy!! The people who returned him wanted to trade him in for a Chihuahua! Smokey is the sweetest boy and has NEVER shown food aggression towards a person--he will let us do anything to him. He is long and lean and so agile and athletic we swear he was raised by cats on the streets. Smokey is the King of the Alameda (Crown Beach) dog park, as well as official greeter and athletic director. He gets along with all the dogs and all the people looooove him because he is such a great kisser. Unfortunately he has learned that he can jump the fences there so he doesn't get to go to the dog park anymore--it just isnt safe.
