Arrival Story:
Dennis was found by the animal shelter wandering in a canyon with three other vizslas of similar age, most likely dumped by an irresponsible breeder who didn't sell all the puppies. Dennis was underweight and suffered about 60% hair loss. His siblings were also underweight, and suffered from various infections and ailments. One volunteer from Vizsla Rescue sprung all four dogs from the shelter, and then various vizsla foster volunteers came forward (including us) to foster each dog. We fostered Dennis for a week, fell in love with him, and adopted him into our family and pack (Tucker- 9 yr old vizsla, and Trixie, 8 1/2 year old chow-shep mix). Dennis was afraid of EVERYTHING in the house. He appeared to have previously been kept on a chain in the backyard his whole life (really, really super short nails, as if from scrabbling). Dennis now sleeps in bed every night under the covers next to his humans. Dennis has been in his furever home with us for a little over a year and a half now. He has come such a long way in confidence and health. He has been taking weekly agility classes for a year now, and has been active in flyball since late last summer. He recently earned his first U-Fli (flyball) title of "Top Flight." Needless to say, we are immensely proud of this boy who came to us afraid of the whole world. From a dog who was afraid to do the wrong thing, and offered no behaviors, he now he offers all kinds of behaviors when trying to figure out how to make me give him a treat. It has been incredibly rewarding working with him and seeing him blossom. All I can say is, somebody threw away a Really Good Dog.
