Arrival Story:
Bred as a working dog (herding and hunting rabbits and vermin) in Pullman, WA (WSU was her vet), but she broke a leg when she was a young pup (I didn't know that until she was eight years old) and is afraid of loud noises (a Lurcher shouldn't be afraid of gun sounds) so she was strictly "pet quality." Adopted by a WSU student whose parents did not want a dog in the house; at the end of spring semester 1999, she was brought to the Pullman Animal Shelter to find a new home. Two hundred and seventy five miles away, I was looking for a Whippet or Lurcher and she came up on petshelter.org. I called the Pullman Animal Shelter and adopted her over the phone, sight unseen (there was no photo). She had been there two days. Pullman Animal Shelter sent her back to WSU for neutering and another checkup and two weeks later, I drove through the green fields of the Paloose to get her. She was eight months old.

Bio:
The shelter named her Shy (which she is not) and Shamayim seemed like a good name for her. It's not likely there'd be another dog with that name in the US. Sky is one English translation for Shamayim. The root (eym) means "to be lofty." For more information, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shama yim
