Ginger passed away on March 3rd, 2011.
Although she never lost her sweet gentle nature, she was losing her joy. In addition to arthritis, she had been declining swiftly as a result of Canine Cognitive Dysfunction (dementia).
Ginger joined the ABC House team in the summer of 2004 and quickly became a favorite of the children and their families as well as staff and community partners. Ginger provided the nurturing presence of a therapy dog at ABC House for 6 ½ years. She was 15 years old and will be fondly remembered for her gentle nature and friendly welcome.
I am blessed to have had her in my life.

Ginger’s year in review, 2007:

This has been an exciting year: In June I celebrated 3 years at my job and with my new mom; in October I celebrated my 12th birthday. During the beginning of this year, I enjoyed so many lovely walks in the park and I got to play with my good doggy friends; then I started limping and mom and I slowed down a bit; we checked in with the doctor and it turns out I had injured my knee and needed surgery (TPLO); in August I remember going to one of my favorite places and seeing my favorite people – I went to sleep and when I woke up, my leg felt different – it was very scary; I got to go home that night but mom kept me home from work for a couple of weeks. And she gave me massages every day; I got to go back to my friends at The Vet for Hydrotherapy for a few months (gosh that was fun – it’s an underwater treadmill – see photo – WHAH technicians are Wonderful), this strengthened my legs and now (at the end of 2007) I am doing very well. I’m up to 30 minute walks in the neighborhood, I can climb stairs again; and I’m feeling great – ready for the adventure of 2008!
