Arrival Story:
When I was about ten or eleven, we owned two Dobermans named Kish and Sonja. One day they managed to get outside and onto the highway near our house and were both hit and killed by the cars there. My family was devastated, especially my father, who was the one the dogs had loved most and he had loved them very much as well. My mother waited a couple months, then suggested to my father that we get another dog, because me and my brothers were missing them so terribly. He refused, but eventually she convinced him and we got Sierra. She was a retired racing Greyhound who was rescued by a local organization in Missouri (where we lived at the time) and my mother had seen her at an exhibition the group did at our local Petsmart. She fell in love with Sierra, who is one of the friendliest dogs I know, and brought her home. Since we first got her she was almost exclusively my dog, with my mother not far below on her list of affections. She didn't act very bright, but I loved her anyway.

She loved carrying around my stuffed animals when I wasn't around (which was a lot, since I went away to college) and slept with them because they smelled like me. She used to be a door-darter but was much calmer in her old age. Near the end, she spent most of her time on "her" couch and my mom's bed. She also liked sleeping in my dirty laundry when I came home from school.

My girl!

My girl came home yesterday! She is away so long now, and it makes me irritable. Mom yelled at me because I ate all of Saki's food, but she deserves it, the pudgy little butthead. Anyway, my girl is home! She dumped all her laundry on the floor in the laundry room and I went right in there and laid down in it because it smelled just like her. I had a nice nap in it. My girl is home! She takes me outside in the middle of the night, when Mom is asleep, because she is always up so late, and then I don't wake Mom up really early and get yelled at. She is my girl! She knows exactly where the place is behind my ear that needs the most scratching, and she knows exactly where I like to sleep, and I get to sleep on her bed when she's here, even though she doesn't like it when I snuggle in close. My girl is home!
