The Secret to Making (and Keeping!) Friends

Friends. Where would we be without them? But making—and keeping—friends is not always easy. The Apostle Paul has some solid advice on how to do just that. It is found in Romans, Chapter 12. This is how that passage reads as translated by Eugene H. Peterson in The Message:

“Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Let’s just go ahead and be what we were made to be, without enviously or pridefully comparing ourselves with each other, or trying to be something we aren’t. If you help, just help, don’t take over. If you give encouraging guidance, be careful that you don’t get bossy; if you’re put in charge, don’t manipulate; if you’re called to give aid to people in distress, keep your eyes open and be quick to respond; if you work with the disadvantaged, don’t get irritated with them or depressed by them. Keep a smile on your face.

Love from the center of who you are—don’t fake it. Be good friends who love deeply; practice playing second fiddle. Laugh with your happy friends when they’re happy; share tears when they’re down. Get along with each other; don’t be stuck up. Make friends with nobodies; don’t be the great somebody.

Think about your own life. How can you apply the ideas in this Biblical passage so that you are a better person, a better friend?

Prayers for Rusty

I want to take a minute to Thank everyfur for the prayers you are saying for our cousin Rusty. I have no news yet Mom never called to ask Aunt Melissa how he was doing. I guess she feels no news is good news. Please keep the prayers coming . We love all of you and I am sure as soon as Uncle Jim and Aunt Melissa can they will update Mom.

Dear Diary

With another message this morning in my pawmail box about The Island I feel the best way to reach all the furs who cared and worked to make it a great place I would write here.

After much thought and talking with Laci we decided to close the club. Our Moms who played a big part in helping us run it are too busy and do not have the time to run it. I sent out several pawmails to members letting them know we were closing but I guess some didn't get everyfur. For this I am sorry. I enjoyed having the Island and we had lots of fun there. We gave it a try and we saw how much time it takes to run a club. Thank you everyfur who came and played with us. We made some wonderful friends who we plan on keeping a long time.

We will see you around and have even offered to help in some of our clubs we like to play in. So you have not seen the last of us.

On a happier note..fur those who continue to write me about my dad. Today he was released from PT. No more OT or PT and he will continue to get better. Again Thank you fur all the prayers and cards, and gifts on our pages. We had a whole lot easier time of getting thur it having you there. Thank You.

Dear Diary

Again I sit and ask for POPs from my dogster pals. Late today Mom got a facebook message that my good friend and buddy Murray had to go to the vet. He is very sick and I am very worried about him. ( His mom had two people in her circle pass last week) We do not think she can go through much more. So if you could put your paws together fur Murray I would be so greatful.
I know many of you are loyal pals to any pet and so with this I know you will sneak a little prayer in fur him.

Update and Christmas wishes..

Wow can you believe the end of the year is here? I wanted to post what news Mom got yesterday on dad. He is no longer taking OT yesterday was his last day.
Now they say that in 8 weeks he maybe done with PT as well. He has to continue at home but they feel he may reach all they can do for him there. Thank you for your continuing prayers and wishes. It has meant more then you will ever know.
We wish every fur on dogster a wonderful holiday and a bright and Happy New Year. Your all in our prayers.

Dear Diary,

I want to update you and all my firiends here on dogster about our dad. First I want to again Thank all my friends who continue to let us know they are there with pawmails and e-mails asking how we are and how dad is. Thank You.
Dad has gone from his 4-prong cane to a regular cane. OT may be over the end of December. However, PT will be for a while his hip is not very strong. He is improving every day and this is a true blessing. I am so happy to have him home with me. He keeps me warm while Mom does housework and plays on her farms on facebook. Which we know we are behind there too. Sorry farmers but with 24 hours in a day it is not enough. BOL
The recovery will be long and the DR said that in one year whatever dad doesn't get back most likely will not come back. (He wants to drive and that is a no-no) He also got into the garage and wanted to mess around with the snow blower and Mom told him NO...he cannot. He has to take it easy.
We do not write much in the diary because there is really not much of a change. It has been super busy around here with Christmas coming. Mom lost her address book so cannot send cards unless she recieves one. Her family must wonder why she is so late in card sending. LOL We thank everyone who has sent us a Christmas card as well.
I have been asked about a few of my furriends about my wedding to Laci and are we still dating. We sure are!! She is a true angel and has stayed right by my side. Even when I have not wrote her in days. Sorry Laci. She is so understanding and loving. As fur the wedding we are planning on marrying but it just is not the right time now. Heck my Aunt Liz asked Mom today when Laci and I was getting married. BOL.
We will update our wedding page when we feel the time is right. With dad and the holidays it is to busy.
Please know we love each and everyone of you and are so thankful our paths have crossed you have all been a blessing to us more then you will ever know.
Merry Christmas to all of you and may you all have a great New Year. Mom is so looking forward to 2010. 2009 has been so hard on us. We are glad it is over. It is hard to find a bright light when so many sad things happen to you.

I am back again..

Dear Diary and furiends, Dad had a wonderful weekend and loved being home. He did most of his exercises but cheated on some. He is moving around with the cane and doing well. We had to change the house around a bit. Sadly we had to toss out Snickers bed. It was an over stuffed chair that he was given seven years ago when Mom and dad got new stuff to keep him off of the sofa. Since then they have even a newer sofa. His chair took up part of the doorway so it had to go. Have you ever seen a dog missing a chair. He has been so hyper.

He was also scared of the cane but he is much better since a few days have gone by. Mom takes dad to his PT and OT tomorrow so he will be out for the first time since coming home. He has a DR appointment every day this week. No rest for Mom. BOL!

I still fit right next to dad on the sofa in the crack. It is so warm there and nice. I am so close to daddy and he feels so warm on me. Almost as good as when I lay under the heater.

I have sent out thank yous. I think to every fur who was here fur us in our time of need. If you did not get one please send us a pawmail..we do not want to furget anyone. We also sent out more thank yous in the mail to those who sent cards. If you have not got yours yet please wait a couple days and let Mom know. They are cute notes , right from me.

I will close fur now and will update soon. I hope from here on in it will be good news. We are so ready to toss out 2009...

I am dancing my wittle legs off!!

Dad is home !!! Oh my goodness it has been a long 2 and a half weeks. He came home today. With all kinds of funny things. He has this stick he uses to walk with. Mom says it is a cane. Doesn't look like any candy cane I have had before.
He has a walker and a shower chair all kinds of neat things. He is so happy to be home. Thank you fur all the prayers and to all who sent him cards and well wishes. He will be having PT and OT for weeks to come but we are praying for a full recovery.
Snickers is scared of daddy's cane. He acts like he thinks dad will hit him with it. So Mom was walking with it showing Snickers how it will not hurt him. He is already getting better about it. Him keeps laying on dads feet.
Me I am still Mom's baby. I sure missed my dad but I can be found in Mom's lap. After all I is her guard dog.
Mom hopes to be able to find sometime tomorrow to start writing Tha nks yous to all of our true friends.
Mom says no one ever wants to go through things like this but if they have to..they should all be members of dogster. You dawgs and Moms are what carried her through the two weeks . She would come home and find upliftting notes on facebook and notes on dogster and cards in the mailbox. It was a true blessing and we thank all of you from the bottom of our hearts.
I better go. Mom says we had a long day and it is time to call it a night. Thank you pals your the best!!!

Dear Diary,

I want to Thank Dogster fur DOTD. Fur once I was not writing to try to win but I was writing to let all my furiends know how dad was with out making 50 pawmails. I am lazy in that way. I am grateful I was picked and I know my dad was happy fur me. He got a big smile.

I hate to start with more bad news but I have decided to keep this diary to help myself cope. Today I heard that MC has passed away. He was a good pal of mine from The Wild West group. He was a kind tender loving cat who only wanted to be liked. He had a heart of gold. I know it because, he sent me beautiful flowers when dad got sick. ( he told me he stole them from a lady's garden. Mom says it is the thought that counts. ( big smile) Rest in Peace my dear Pal.
Last night while Mom was with dad. Grandma called to tell Mom that our two nephews were in ER room next to dad. They were t-boned in their SUV. A man ran a stop sign and hit them. The SUV rolled 5 times end over end. A side from minor cuts and scrapes they are OKAY. Please add them to my prayer list . Thank YOU.
Dad is walking good with his walker. Still sitting after only a little while because he gets out of breathe but he is coming along great. He is in a happy mood now. Loves his roommate and things are looking up. Thank you for your support. It has been worth a ton of gold. I always knew dogster people are kind loving people and boy has it been shown.
Your all great and I can never repay any of you for being there for us. My family is very grateful. Mom says she is getting drunk when 2009 ends because it is a year she would like to furget. ( She really doesn't mean that) BOL The drunk part.

What???

I was woofed that I got DOTD.!! OMD I did not even know. What exciting news and on what should have been my wedding day. I can not wait until Mom goes to see dad so she can tell him! He will be so excited fur me!

Thank you Sophia fur giving me this wonderful news. Mom helped me look but we were unable to find it. Darn.
