Arrival Story:
Shortly after graduating from college, I moved into my first apartment. Having grown up with dogs, life just seemed too quiet. So, without hesitation I logged on to petfinder.org in search of a small friend. About a week later, I met a woman at a local Kmart where I picked up Katie. The woman was very pregnant, already had three kids, and had just finished selling puppies that Katie had recently gave birth to. Unfortunately, I learned that Katie spent most of her first 3 years cooped up in the back yard of a Ft. Lewis home, where she was either neglected or knocked around by some unruly kids. In the spring of 2003, she briefly escaped the yard and became pregnant before returning home. She had 5 cute puppies, who due to bad circumstances, were sold away when they were much too young. Katie was very depressed about this.
When I first met her,Katie was missing most of her hair on the back end, was screaming and barking uncontrollably, and her leash was a frayed yellow rope. At first, I was shocked at the scene, but as soon as I put Katie in the car to go home, the screaming stopped and I knew this was a start of a great new life for her. I took her home, gave her a bath, and spent the first night cuddled up on the couch with her next to me. Over the next two months, we went to doggie training school where Katie learned how to do tricks and how to behave as an indoor pup. She also met her new doctor who helped me to restore her beautiful blonde fur and put on some weight. Now, 4 years later, she is as happy as can be, living with her feline brother, Figaro. She is still working on some social skills and leash behavior, but I could not ask for a better pup.
