Leave a bone for Gelsey 1993-2006

Wups, Wuppy

Doggie Dynamics:
not playfulvery playful

Quick Bio:
-deaf -dog rescue

She liked her kitty friend Cleo, and would lick her clean. She taught Tillie how to be nice to kitties. Tillie now licks Cleo clean.

She was terrified of thunder. She'd quickly become a lap dog, and just pant until the storm went away.

Favorite Toy:
Tennis balls...must be yellow!

Favorite Food:
Pedigree small bites. It was the only dog food she'd eat. She'd starve herself if we tried to feed her anything else.

Favorite Walk:
Walks were not her thing...she preferred to swim, and would stay in the water for hours and hours.

Best Tricks:
Fetch, get the frisbee.

Arrival Story:
I went to the mall on a lunch break and saw a bunch of little black puppies at the Humane Society Adoption center. They were 10 weeks old, and very rambunctious. The runt, a little female, was so quiet, but was quick to grab my thumb in her teeth when I reached inside. It was love at first bite!

Gelsey was named for the prima ballerina Gelsey Kirkland. (No offense Ms. Kirkland!) I had just read her biography, and thought it was an unusual, interesting name, so Gelsey it was. As it turned out, it became quite appropriate, as Gelsey's leaps up into the air after a frisbee or spray of water were quite graceful. Gelsey was a lifelong water dog. And while she was great at catching frisbees, her first love was tennis balls. She had a whole sack of them. They had to be yellow, she wouldn't even look at them if they were any other color. After having several problems with her ears from being in the water all the time, toward the end of Gelsey's life she finally became totally deaf. She was 13 years old, already almost 3 years beyond the life expectancy of a lab. So we brought home Tillie, who then became her ears for the last year of her life.

Forums Motto:
Happiness is a tennis ball and water!
