Bionic Dog

Well, ya can't keep a good dog down! That's what I say. We are now 3 weeks into my 8 week lockdown for my ACL surgery rehab. All is going quite well except I am so bored! BORED with a capital B! So when mom turned her back for 2 seconds, I RAN out the dog door. Seriously, it was like the 50 yard dash! I was free! She was hot on my trail but I made it through the door before she caught me. Freedom! Yeah, these metal plates make me the bionic dog. I'm definitely fast again. One more week and we get to start going on walks. Watch out you kitty cats! I'm coming for you!

Copper improvement project

Well, I've done it again. We knew the chances of blowing my other ACL were good when I had my first surgery 1 1/2 years ago but we were hoping that for once I would have some luck. No dice. Yesterday, they fixed my ACL on my right leg. I really haven't been able to get around all that well for more than a week but mom was in Alaska. But as soon as she got home, she got me in. Now I'm pretty much on house arrest for 30 days followed by another 30 days of yard arrest. I won't be outside without being on a leash for 2 months! Yikes! I so love summer and won't get to enjoy my pool this year. But in the end, I'll be back to chasing tennis balls by the fall and I'll be good company to mom while she works on home improvement projects. At least the Copper improvement project is well under way.

Frankenstein's dog

Even Frankenstein needed a best friend, right? Well, I might just be that guy. I had to have a salivary gland removed yesterday and I have an 8 inch incision and drain tube in my neck. With the stitches across my neck and drain tubes on either side, I could be Frankenstein's twin. It's not pretty but I'm not feeling too horrible. Sure, it might have something to do with some loopy loo pills the doc gave me but I guess they say I'll be good as new in 10 days. Until then, I think mom should head straight to the store and get me some Frosty Paws Ice Cream!

I've been in this world 8 wonderful years today!

What I've learned in my 8 years:

1. Don't sweat the small stuff, like obedience.

2. No matter how rotten the carcass, there is always something good left to take home.

3. Nature, alive or dead, always smells better on me.

4. No matter how small the puddle there is always room for me.

5. Tennis balls are made for chasing, as are cats.

6. Money can't buy happiness but it can buy tasty biscuits.

7. Obedient dogs rarely make history.

8. Love for my humans is only matched by their love for me.

It's been a great 8 years! Thanks to all my family and friends!

Cha-ching

It has been 2 years since my FCE and 1 year since having my ACL fixed on my left leg. Life is good. I can hike a few miles on flat terrain, roll on dead stuff, I run and play ball and have even jumped up on the bed by myself. Mom's pretty proud of me since we have made it to the 1 year mark without having to get the other knee done. Cha-ching...that means she has more funds for biscuits, bones, and squeakies! I can't scratch my right ear but that's what humans are for. I still need a bit of help doing stairs and my right leg is still weak but other than that, I'm doing just fine.

Cone City again!

Ugh! I have tunnel vision again! Yep, that evil plastic cone is again around my neck. Sure, this time I deserve it but it may be the worse thing ever!

We were enjoying a beautiful mother's day and mom decided we could have some rawhides. Mom left me outside and brought Red Dog inside to enjoy his. Red decided to come back outside through the doggie door and he ABANDONED his bone on the deck and went back inside. Well, a bone should never be left alone and I decided to rescue it, just as Red returned for it. A fight ensued, that Mom broke up very quickly. Red went back inside, I stayed outside and mom took both bones. No more bones! A few minutes later, she noticed blood on her leg. Red appeared ok, so she went outside to check on me and my leg was bleeding. Red Dog's toenail must have ripped my leg open. The injury is a big ol' tear, not a bite or puncture wound.

Off to the emergency vet we went. I ended up with 13 stitches and 2 weeks vacation in Cone City. No more bones and now the cone, what a lousy no good day.

Rolling in dead stuff makes mom proud!

It's been a bit crazy around here and my secretary (aka Mom) has not taken dictation lately. Finally, I was able to convince her that my fans are wondering how my super new knee is and it was time to write.

I'm just returning from a 6 week vacation at Dad's. Mom was on an assignment that required her to travel and she couldn't give us the attention we deserve, so it was up to Dad! Well, Dad lives out in the middle of nowhere and there are no fences! Mom was a bit nervous about all the exercise I'd get but in the end, we think it was good for me.

My surgery knee is holding up just fine! I still kind of walk like a drunk but I run like a gazelle! Chasing balls, love to play ball. I've never, ever lost that, even after I'll I've been through. I'm back to hiking too. I can do about 2-3 miles, no problem. And finally, my most important feat....rolling in dead stuff. Yeah, it should gross you out but being able to roll around makes mom proud! I did that for the first time since I was paralyzed. Yep, I deserve an award.

Somebody's gotta bring home the bacon.

Somebody's gotta bring home the bacon and the snausages and the raw hides and the toys and the.... well I could go on. So we've elected mom, as Red and I have very important things to take care of on the home front and could not possibly take on any other outside duties. Sleeping alone takes at least 8 hours and that's just the day shift. We do it all over again on the night shift. We are very dedicated to our jobs. So Mom is using her work schedule as an excuse to neglect our pages. Well, guilt set in about exactly how much she has neglected us as she forgot Red's birthday today! OMD! If it wasn't for dogster....we wouldn't have had any birthday burgers. So thank you dogster and all of our pals! We hope mom has learned her lesson!

I wanted to send a big shout out to Emma and all those that donated to her Christmas Paws Project! I had the best stocking ever and it was STUFFED with so much great stuff. There were so many things that we are giving a few items and some of our extra blankets to our local shelter. Thank you for choosing me! I feel so honored! You are all amazing and doing wonderful things for dogkind and mankind!

You don't need x-rays to see how good I am.

Yesterday I had my 8 week post surgery check up and x-rays. The doc said the bone is healed and looks great. He said I wasn't exactly graceful but I was looking good. I wonder what he meant by not graceful.... I already know I'm looking good. I don't need any fancy acronym behind my name like he has or any old x-ray to tell me that.

Anyway, this means I can be off-leash in the yard and am allowed to start my stair training (again). He said no on the ball playing for another 4-6 weeks though. Geez, I might forget how to play by then. Nah, I'll totally remember.
