Addison's

It's me Sadie again!

Well I went to see my friends at the doctor's office I love the ride it's about 20 minutes each way, so I just sit or lay on the back seat an relax, when we got there I tried to open the door myself but I couldn't so mom let us in, I went up to the counter stood on my hind legs to say "I'M Here" the girls all laugh (I don't know why) then I just go lay down on the nice cold tile floor or sit on the chair. When it was time for my friend to call me I ran right to her and went in the room got on the scale without being told to then my friend said I gained another pound I heard mom say "oh no", I got down mom said that's it "diet time" I don't know what that means but I have a feeling I'm not going to like it, she said only 3 cookies a day no more snacks. But mom knows what's best for me so I have to do this diet thing.
I go back Sept.28th, this will be a bigger visit to see my friends I have to have my electrolyte panel done that's when they take some blood I only have to have this done every 4 to 6 months now so mom figured 5 months is a good number, then I'll get weighed & get my injection maybe my predisone will need to be refilled too.
So I'm doing good thank you all for caring about me, I guess I am pretty special well that's what I keep hearing anyway.

9/28/09 Mom's so happy I lost 7 lbs I'm now 131, I had my injection 3.9 less than last month that was 4.1, I didn't need my blood work done mom counted wrong I'll have that done the 28th of Oct., mom said we are cutting down my predisone to 1.9mg from 2.5 to see how I do & if I do ok & my blood panels come back ok I may only have to go to visit my friends every 30 days instead of every 28.

Happy Halloween ! I went to see my friends I lost some more weight I'm down to 129.2 lbs. my new snack every night is a whole bag of hot popcorn low fat the doctor said that's good but buy it without salt, so mom went today and got me that kind. I have my next injection Nov 25 due to Thanksgiving I have to go before 30 days, but after that I can go every 30 days.Guess what my other mom came to visit me at my new mom's house my mom and her are going to keep in touch, I layed on my back so she could pet my belly! She still loves me mom said before she left she took pictures of me.

It's me Sadie !

Hi Everyone it's me Sadie, Just wanted to let you know my mom added some new pictures of me.
I'm feeling great, I go see my friends at the doctor's office every 28 days for my injection of "Percorten-V" I get my injection in my rear thighs each month it's the other leg never 2 in the same muscle it doesn't hurt at all.
I know I have to get on the scale first so I just do it on my own (they laugh I guess it's funny), I gained 10 pounds last month it's because of the pill my mom hides in my food everyday she calls it predisone it's tiny & white 2.5mg. When I go back this month mom hopes I lost a few pounds the injection is given by weight my last injection was $180.00 cause I weigh 136 lbs now. I won't need blood panels done again until Oct.
My mom loves me a lot, she'll do anything for me & play anytime I want to I even get to sleep with her.
Other than that all is well thank you all for your prayers when I got so sick....because they worked.

Addison's Disease

Sadie became sick , she stopped eating I waited a few days like we all do thinking she's just got a bug but she was getting worse, she was taken to the vet after throwing up blood with bloody diarrhea she couldn't stay awake she just wanted to sleep, we took her to the emergency vet 8AM 1/18 Sunday morning, she was so cold they put a warming blanket on her, started IV and ran blood work.
After spending 4 days in the hospital Sadie has been diagnosed with "Addison's Disease". With one test left to confirm this, it will be done within 2 weeks, she is now taking medication for Addison's already which if it's not will not hurt her, the way she has reacted to the medication in a positive way making it almost a positive for the disease.
She will be on medication the rest of her life but will be able to live a normal long life.

Sadie came home Wednesday night they are almost 100% sure it's Addison's Disease, Sadie will need to spend another 8 hours at a vet but not an emergency vet, for a final test, a blood test called the ACTH Stimulation or Response test. This test is typically only done once to diagnose the condition. To perform the ACTH stimulation test, an initial blood sample is drawn and the cortisol level is measured. The dog is injected with a synthetic form of the pituitary hormone ACTH that tells the adrenals to produce cortisol. After an hour, blood is drawn again, and the cortisol level measured.

Other than that Sadie seems like her fat little 114lb. self LOL. I never had a special needs weim before this only makes her more special to me, she a sweet girl that everyone at the Emergency center fell in love with there's no way you can't the love in her eyes steals your heart. You can read about Addison's just put it in Google, people can get it also President Kenndey had it.

2/16/09 Sadie is doing great she has had 2 more blood work ups her levels are in the normal range, today she had her second injection of Percorten-V , her Predisone is 2.5mg. once a day.She'll go back in 14, 21 & 28 days for more blood work ups to keep a close check on her electrolytes,potassium & sodium.
She's back to herself , she's now 110lbs, about 20 lbs over weight for her size she's very big boned (really) more the blood hound body then the great dane body. We need to focus on her medication before her weight (per the vet) she needs to be stable 3 months then we can get her weight down. She's eating very good, playing like the pup she always was, sleeping in the bed glued to my side ...... got love it! To know Sadie is to love Sadie.
