This is going to be a very very long diary entry... for the right reasons.

I was stunned to recieve the email from HQ saying ''My Boy Flicka'' was Dog Of The Week.

Even more stunned when the kind words and gifts .... pmails .... emails .... diary comments .... group messages and guest book signings just simply kept rolling in. I am humbled by the opinions you have of me. I have a tenet I try to live by as best I can .... ''Do as you would be done by''. Sometimes we can't do that.... life and me especially aren't perfect.

There has been so much love and kindness shown this week.... and for that... me... and my Boys thank you deeply. It has also shown the very best of the best of this wonderful site . Thankyou ''Dogster'' THANKYOU ALL .
It was.... and is .... a privilege to call you my friends.

A Good Day

Its been a hard year so far ... three operations.. and alot of healing still to come.

Today was a better time .........

I did my American Citizenship today... and now have it. Five years of Immigration He...... hockey sticks.

Its not official till the ceremony which will be 28th August or 30th Oct as we are away the September date. Maybe the wonderful American gent I married in England (which was my home ) and I , will FINALLY be able to be able to live our life in peace with my boys Flicka and Lucas .

This morning a big shock.... my beloved Cleo is 2nd Diary pick. Ironic isnt it that the one of the 3 who never knew a second of abuse or neglect is the one who is picked with her Diary copy /pasted from the Boys ones which carried the message.. ''They cant throw us away..''

But... maybe not so ironic.

Those with no voice can speak with the voice of one who had.

Those with no sight , shall see with the eyes of one who had.

Those with no hearing, shall hear with the ears of one who had bigggg ones !.

That is the point... we.. who survive and live blessed lives shall be the concience and voice of those who cannot do it for themselves.

This operation on my left hand so soon after the one in December on my right hand has rather de stuffed me. Heavy pain levels and as I dont respond to pain killers or nerve blocks ... well it has to be got through.

I might be MIA from time to time ... but if I miss a pals birthday or special day... forgive me... normal service will be resumed shortly !

The wonderful emails and pmails I have had have truely stunned me.... this is the real face of this site... the love and care and generosity of spirit that friends show .

On a curious note.... why did some flaming idiot of a manager/designer decide that the protective sheath an ice pack goes into should be the same size as the ~!@#$^@#$= icepack ???? THUS making it next to impossible for someone with 1/2 a hands use to get the pack into the sheath ????

I just wanted to THANK everyone for all the wonderful gifts and words for ''My Boy''. It was a super day... he (and Lucas !) had lots of treats and I couldn't keep up with his fan mail.

I wont list you all.. I know I will end up missing someone... and I don't want to do that.

For Flicka's 3rd Birthday

Today is my Beautiful Boys 3rd Birthday. He was not supposed to see this day... he was a throwaway abused pup ... 12 hrs from death.

This is a guess date... he was around 16 weeks old when he rescued me. He has grown into a wonderful dog. He still has one or two problems... but lets face it.. who or what doesnt ?. His loyalty is unquestionable and his love is unconditional ... and so is mine to him.

He stood beside the hole in my heart that was left when Cleo died and he quietly built a bridge over it to my soul.

Happy Birthday Beautiful Boy. When you curl up beside me at days end and let out that long contented sigh... simply KNOW it is the greatest gift you could ever give me

A Peaceful and Healthy New Year.

Firstly... wishing you all a Peaceful and Healthy New Year. Been alsorts going on not least of which was having an operation on my right hand (me Mum... not Flicka or Lucas !) I have just got the cast off after a month and now have a temp ... need to get my hand working again... the surgeon says I will stop hating him in 6 mths. Then I need my left hand done.

Things that should be easy arent !

That aside... it has been a year of harsh sorrows with losses of loved ones and a year of regaining health after a heart attack on LAST New Years Eve. Last night... I finally got the Champagne !!

Dogster has been THE best thing to happen. I have made good and true friends here . It is a place to support ... and be supported by wonderful people.

I had a surprise today... a wonderful small but very active group I am in gave me 2 awards. Top Administator (a shared award) and... PET OF THE YEAR .... I was stunned to say the least. I can only thank Minster (ID 577814) for making that Group and being Simply The Best!

My ''Boys'' are my heart and soul.. well you know that feeling... as are your Furs. That they have brought me to a special place and friends here... is beyond hopes.

My pals in a small forum I go in.. are the BEST also. Their love and care have made SO much difference

we know the non plus folks can't reply.. but if there is some other way you can help, we'd be much obliged..

i can't think of any other way to say it tho..

** we can only use INFORMATIONAL AND HEALTH forums TO PROMOTE MICA'S CAUSE, OR OUR DIARY AND PAGES.. MIGHT ANYONE HAVE ANOTHER IDEA?? this is a large amount of money..


We get lucky now & again, but the stakes are way too high with a disease like IMHA (immune-mediated hemolytic anemia) or some of its nasty cousins, such as thrombocytopenia or pantocytopenia.. so we can never ever get too lucky..

Lucky in the sense that some (like Mica's Team) regard it an entity that needs eradication, so that when 'one GOOD dog' proposes a clever way to help us raise awareness of the plight of others who face these blood-immune illnesses, we remain open to anything that might benefit EVERYPUP.

NEVER looking a gift-dog in the mouth, we do wonder WHY ONE kind-hearted GSD is always the leader-of-the-pack? Last it was May, when he joined us again to raise extra funds. We sadly endured the unkindness of a SPAM slur by a dog out there somewhere, and although it 'hurt' in more ways than one, we carried on.

NOW, we have but 2 months to jump a rather high hurdle, but it's for such a good cause it's worth a try. It ends@ midnight on 2 January 2009, that GOOD DOG's WOOFday.

Mica's IMHA RESEARCH FUND is promised 1k if our 3 dog pages make the top 10 dog pages on DOGSTER & half that amount if Mica & Mirra combined succeed. That is actually doable mates. We just checked and here's what we learned..

Mica is presently #6, Mirra #18 & The Purple Girls of Oregon #23. We will benefit too, with a small donation by a 3-way corral by any one pup. (There's that trifecta again)

BUT IT'LL TAKE the help of other pups to make it happen. It's REALLY not about popularity, and we don't have prizes to drive incentives, other than just participating in something good to fund this necessary research.

The rankings come from corrals, which drive these endeavors. The dog with the generous pockets essentially believes that the more Mica is seen, the more potential there IS to help others by awareness of the disease, but greater still is the potential from donations from others who learn about IMHA as a result of being seen.

We agree with the first part as we have seen it work. And as we've said before, even a dollar-at-a-time adds up. It can help save a life, mates. Many dogs have joined Mica's Team, in her quest for a cure for IMHA, and we appreciate their kindness & support.

BUT we're asking again.
If you have ever been in a position to raise funds for a cause, you know it's a necessary task, like it or not. Funding medical research especially for animals, is not a popular investment for many.

Yet we know that many of our mates (and those we haven't met yet) are loved dearly by their people, and that many do REALLY care about the lives & health of our furry family members. We can't do it alone, nor can we expect that one dog to do the work for ALL others either.

We hope & pray that in this upcoming time of year when people may give to a cause they believe in, that you'll consider Mica's IMHA Research Fund as a cause worth believing & investing in..

Well... this is my 1st year on Dogster. I have made wonderful friends... and met the odd liar thief and cheat... but the FRIENDS out number them MANY MANY more times.

This place has gone a long way to restoring my Faith in mankind. People CARE... people UNDERSTAND.

You dont have to explain WHY you still break your heart over a lost loved FUR many years later .... you can laugh many tears too over the tales of havoc wrought by a loved Fur... the destuffings... the drenchings in water.....

A Golden Retriever. One of many placed in various Senior centers by As Good as Gold--Golden Retriever Rescue of Northern Illinois. Now a Golden in another state needs help to stay with his owner of 10 years--he's lived at the senior complex for 5 years and now they got one complaint and want him gone.

The reason for the petition: George, has lived with his loving companion for nearly 5 years at Town Village Retirement Community. He has given smiles and warmth to all that have crossed his path. Residents in the community know him by name and look forward to seeing his sweet face and being able to pet or walk him. Just recently a complaint was made to management about his size. Without hesitation management has given George 2 weeks notice that he must leave his loving companion of 10 years. I can only hope that whoever it is with the stupid idea also suffers that fate in their latter years. Hello to all my pals. I want to ask a big favor of all of you. Please go and visit my pal Atticus's page. Just click on the LINK above.

The name that has been given to me is Atticus. I am really the sweetest pup you will ever find. I have just had a rough start in my life. Please read my bio for my story.
So far I have found how wonderful life can be. I just love to play, but right now I have a really hard time just going out to potty. My back is hurt really bad. If I do not get treatment soon, I could become completely paralyzed.
I am so thankful for the kind humans that are trying their very best to help me. They have taken me to see the person they call the vet. I heard them say I need something called surgery. This will give me the chance at a normal pup life. I want to be normal like the other pups at my foster home. Right now, I have to stay inside all the time and just watch them out the window. This makes me cry!
I also heard my foster humans say this surgery is going to cost $6500.00.
I am not sure what this really means. I heard them say it is a lot of money and they must raise the money by Oct. 28. They said this is when I am scheduled to have this surgery thing done. I want it so bad. I want to be able to run and play like all my pals. Without it, this will never happen and I will start to get a lot of pain, then I will not be able to even go out for a potty break.
I am a pup with a lot of love to give and a very big heart! My foster humans tell me times are really bad for people right now. That it will be hard to get this thing they call money. If any of you out there has even a dollar to spare, will you please help them get this money?
Dogster has been so kind as to allow us to ask for your help. Without all you pups, I just do not know what I would or will do.

The Price Of Love

There is something I am getting to grips with... it isnt a simple concept... I have lost too many I care about in my life...

The pain of loved souls passing can be agonising . I have no strong faith to carry me.. I have a basic belief that I will see those I need and want to see in another dimension .. either in this life.. or a next if there is one.

What I have had to seriously ask myself is if I would rather not have had those souls in my life.? Meaning.. I had none of the pain of their passing.

The answer is a deafeningly loud '' I NEEDED THEM IN MY LIFE !".

They taught me to be who I am

They gave me wings to Fly

They gave me the joy of Love.

If I want to be without the pain of their passing... then I have to not have them in my life to start with. I do not want a life that bitter and bare and empty.

I hate the pain.. I hate knowing the pain other souls are in. I hate the terrible diseases and pain that take our loved ones sometimes.

There IS no one without the other.... the only place that can be so is some science fiction Robot-World.

SO........ I will take the pain of the Passing... it is a small price to pay for all the LOVE that comes before.

In Memory of Flicka's Friend Sparky

Friday 29th August 2008

This day.. Rainbow Bridge took into its care another beautiful Boy called Sparky. Sparky was Flicka's friend... Sparky taught the poor abused pup that was Flicka that it was OK to be a dog... that it was OK to have a time in the Sun .... that it was OK to feel the wind in your fur and roll in the grass.

Sparky was found as a young pup just wandering and living rough. He was taken in and given a wonderful life and all the love in the world. He had 13 years here on Earth and paid that love and care back time and time over by being a loyal and loving soul.

So... Fairwell Sparky... Thankyou for all and every moment we knew you. We shall see you again one day

Flicka's Thursday 7th ....

Flicka had a small operation today to remove a small growth from his throat area.

All is well it was a benign cyst as I had thought it was. However... it was a huge relief to have that confirmed.

It been a long 5 days leading up to the op. He is home.. and we are about to go snuggle . He is still rather like Bambi on Valium !!!

Thankyou for the love and support it was much appreciated. I told only a few.. cos I wanted to be sure of what was going on first.

A ''Day In The Sun''

Today was just that ... a day in the grace of the Sun

It started that is was Flicka's Gotcha day.. and truely to my surprise folk had sent words and rosettes and gifts. Folk who I care about.. folk who I have laughed and cried with . Kindest words.. coming from the heart.. and made me shed tears as our worth to others is the fabric upon which our life is written.

Sunday 6th July

Two minutes past Midnight here.

Two years ago today I was rescued from a stinking black hell hole by my Mum.

I have learnt so much in that 2 yrs. I dont have to fear the dark... the sudden move... the raising of a hand.

I can love the dark now.. means time on the bed with Mum.. she touches me and Lucas all night. The dark is my friend.

Sudden moves mean we could be going out for a walk or getting a treat ! Nooooo problem !!

A raised hand means a stroke or a throw of a ball.

I have my ''issues'' . I still feel I need to protect my Home and my Mum. I still dont relax as much as I maybe should. BUT.... we are getting there.

Life IS good.

I am LOVED

I am FED and have cool WATER

I am WARM in Winter and COOL in Summer.

My name... Flicka ( yes I have a name now too) comes from the fact my life was flickering ... they were going to kill me .

All is well .. the World turns as it is meant to do .

For those who have suffered and died from hate and neglect.... I promise you this... I will try to be all I can be... to live the BEST I can.

My Mum will guard and defend me.. and my RIGHT to BE .

My dear Pal Mirra tagged me today and she like many felt this tag thing could evolve.. and maybe set some folk thinking. So.. instead of tagging many .. I will tag just 2... and ask them to share with others 3 ways they would try to make a difference in the lives of dogs (or animals in general)?

These are my 3 ways

1. Spay and neuter programmes ALL could afford ... paid for by the deduction from wages of animal abusers who have been fairly tried and convicted.

2. Large drop bins at supermarkets to drop a tin of food or mixer or toy or towel for a local shelter ( have seen this done)

3. Public officials to work in animal shelters one month a year )on the same wages as those who do it full time)so they KNEW what it was like in those heartbreaking places .... instead of just turning a blind eye and paying lip service.

Harder Days

While Mum and Dad were mending the pooter ... another more awful scenario was playing its final hours out. It was the reason Mum truely needed the pooter working.

My Mum has a friend... best friend in the world .. and her name is Shey . Shey has a husband ... Chris ....

Chris and Shey.... I wrote about them in the Wishes and Hopes thread I started in the Group I am in.

They are simply the best friends Mum has. Shey.. American.. Chris ..English... they live in Spain. He has been fighting cancer for 3 yrs.. yesterday he lost. Mum has walked this path with Shey for a long time laughing and crying.... living on ''black humour'' sometimes they talked for hours in Messenger in the small hours when none could sleep .

In the early hours of this morning.. in a lovely house in Spain.. with his beloved wife laid with him on the bed telling him he was safe.. and that she loved him for ever... Chris slipped away. He had no religion.. but probably more ''heart'' and love of his fellow humans than many who do.

Goodbye my Sweet Friend... we never climbed the Lighthouse there.. but one day.. we will.

Shey Lady... Earth Angel that you are... I hold you close and tight .

Mum needed the pooter.... and Dad made it happen. I guess... in the run of things.. this isnt related to dogs... cept folk here.. who never knew Shey and Chris knew of their story from my Mum. She told them not cos of the sadness.. and the want for support.. but cos .... Shey and Chris are GOOD people.. people who gave money to others and said nothing.. people who loved and helped... people who the papers dont care about cos they arent BAD headlining useless waste of space female ''celebrities'' That we wont make Diary Of The Day is fine.. dont need that.. just needed a few to know there is so much GOOD out there.

Hard Days....

On Wednesday our computor collapsed.... seriously so... to the extent that it seemed probably to think it was a pot plant sitting in the corner of the room ... well put it this way.. it didnt know it was pooter.

Our Dad had to write code to teach it that.. then Mun and Dad spent 14 hrs dragging every possible file off the hard drive and saving them.

Dad tried a ''healing'' tactic .. it didnt... so... they reformatted it to the encouragement of our friends on Dogster wishing us well and a Speedy Return.

They worked all night.. we sat and watched.. we were SO good Mum said.... and.. low and behold.. at 5 am on Sat Morn... we had a shiney happy pooter.. and Mum spent the rest of the day.. rebuilding

Thanks Pals.. you kept my Mum going... she has found a ''family'' here..

The Theory of Chaos

Today.. a Pal left me a Special Gift for a very small thing done for them.They said some nice things about me.. blush making ! This was my answer and I only reproduce it because I realised it summed up something that is a life project for me ... not because it is a literary masterpiece .. which it isnt.

You know.... there are so many here on Dogster , people like ____ ( fill in your own names here) ____ wellllllllllllll the list is endless... these are folk.. and 1000's more like them who CARE. We laugh and cry ..probably in equal measure at what we see on here. We try to make a difference . Ok.. nothing vast and rocket science in complexity ... as simple as hitting F5 a 1000 times cos we have run out of zealies and want to give a Fur a treat. Or writing a pmail to a perfect stranger to say ''I am so sorry for your loss...'' or '' Wow that is wonderful ...'' or '' you made me laugh till I cried. ''

Its the Chaos Theory. A smile in a small town in Oklahoma.... becomes a full sized belly laugh in a remote farm in the Outback of Australia.

You see... you can afford to send a smile because someone else can afford to ''buy'' it.. and send it on. THAT is Balance... it has taken me 53 years to realise that... and I am working on perfecting it.

A Short Explaination

Just a short explaination as to why we havent wished our friends a Happy New Year before now... or thanked them for the lovely thoughts and rosettes etc they sent.

Our silly Mum rather went and had a lil heart attack on 31st Dec.. well it might have been the day before but she wouldnt see a Dr till she couldnt ''do'' the pain anymore.

She came home from hospital this afternoon and is going to be fine but she and Dad... and we, think it was good ''scared'' cos now she may just stop soaking up all the stress and relax a bit!

We also wanted to thank Bandit's Dad ( Dogster ID 655040) for looking after us so well when Dad had so much to do. Bandit's Dad is still helping to walk us till Mum gets a bit stronger. THANKYOU !

A Fireside Story For Christmas Night

Comes in quietly and stirs the embers into bright Spark Faeries and throws another log on the Fire.. Sits down in the big old fireside chair , dogs dreaming softly at her feet. Setting the crystal glass of red wine on the side table , she closes her eyes .... and dreams a story .......

The Gathering

As was the tradition,they all came together this single night of the year in the forest clearing.First came the Coyote whose ancestors had stolen fire from Man.He gathered kindling and scattered it with the dust of fire opals which sparkled as they set the wood and moss ablaze,sending tiny offerings of light and heat up to the velvet black, diamond studded sky.Next came the great Bear who dragged in logs to burn on the fire,no-one would be cold this night.
As the fire blazed it seemed as a beacon.Sending out an invitation to attend this Gathering.All rivallry must be set aside at the forest edge.There will be no malice or hunger,no pain or anger.Here shall only exsist a peace so deep as to transcend all earth-bound feelings.
Through the deep moonlit snow they came,softly in the shadows of the trees.When at last the circle was made around the fire they numbered eleven. There were two places yet to be filled.
The roll call was made ,each creature was equal amongst his peers.The Coyote and the Bear,the Fox and the Cougar,the Wolf and the Raven,the Caribou and the Beaver,the Hawk the Deer and the Owl.Only the faintest sounds betrayed the twelfths arrival and the Eagle took his place.
Only now could they summon the last of their number for he had to be brought through the eons of time,across the veil of dreams.Slowly their minds became as one.They melded their hopes and dreams,their pain and sorrow,until their single spirit arose, and that which was good and pure was all that remained.
Slowly the knots of this earthly bond loosened and the veil of dreams parted.The Great White Buffalo was amongst them.
Then they did eat the food of knowledge and drink the nectar of wisdom,till each was sated.In those moments the shawl of peace surrounded and healed them.
The Great White Buffalo left as he came,and the circle was broken.Each creature melted away into the shadows.The Coyote gathered up the sparkling dust of the fire opals and left the clearing.The snow fell and covered up all traces of the Gathering.
In the black silence a comet streaked across the heavens and from its glittering tail, the seeds of hope were scattered across the land.

Joy and Sadness

Well brief updates.... Lucas is recovering just fine from ''the Snip'' He was a floppy lil lad that night.. but back to full of bounce again now.

Our Mum was in the Christmas Parade for the City with the Dog Park float she and others decorated. They had a great time.. despite the cold. Mum's cold is not nice now... she has lost her voice as well.. that has a good side to it ... LOL

The Dog Park was supposed to have a Christmas Party this afternoon.. but it had to be cancelled cos of the Ice storm. Maybe we should have it in July ?

This afternoon Mum found out one of her few friends here is going to move back home. She is sad... but knows it is the best thing . We will miss our big Furry Friend and his Dad too. Time passes ... things change.... but friends are friends always. They will be a long long way away.. but still in our hearts.

Today ... Lucas is at the Vet's for what Mum calls ''The Snip'' . I know I had ''The Snip''. It was ok... I guess !. BUT.. today cos I am a lone lad for a few hours my Mum is giving ME lotssssssss of Treats !!!

Top 10 Most Dangerous Breeds

Which breeds are the most dangerous?

Which ones bite without warning, or can just snap? Which ones are likely to attack unprovoked, or take up a pack mentality? Which breeds have unstable temperaments, and just can't be trusted?

Quick - which breeds come to mind? Are you thinking Pitbulls, Presas, Rottweilers? Dobermans or Chows? German Shepherds or Akitas?

Wrong. In fact, really wrong.

Contrary to popular belief, these breeds are not the most dangerous. In fact, not a single animal welfare organization on the planet will give you a list of dangerous breeds, but we will..............

Just The Facts

But before we do - let's give you the facts.

Fact: The CDC has stopped reporting bite statistics by breed, as these numbers are driven by eyewitness reports, and are very often inaccurate. Why did the CDC stop? Because misidentification of breed is extremely common, making eyewitness reports an unreliable source.

In her book, Fatal Dog Attacks, author Karen Delise has studied the statistics and the stories behind these rare but deadly events. A top expert in this specialized field, she has concluded that a number of factors are present in a fatal attack.

Fact: On average, there are fewer than 30 deaths annually in the U.S. due to fatal dog maulings. Statistically, these tragedies are incredibly rare, as the dog population of 79 million. The stats on deaths by breed are available, as there are so few, and yes, Pitbulls and Rottweilers are on the list. But so are other breeds you might not imagine.

The media and headline-hungry pols love to point to these stats, and with great authority point to Pitbulls and Rottweilers as top offenders.

But what the media and politicians don't tell you is that the breeds on this list are driven by breed popularity, and that over the years, the types of breeds on this list have shifted.

So why are these breeds on the list? The answer is this - breed popularity drive the stats, but perhaps even more intangible is that breed popularity with irresponsible dog owners is an even bigger factor.

The #1 Factor

The absolute, number one factor that determines whether or not a dog will become dangerous is............... ownership.

And in compiling this list of dangerous breeds, you'll note they all share one trait in common - they are all human.

That's right, Kory, Jackie & Michael - humans are most reponsible for dangerous dogs. Humans are responsible for creating the circumstances and behavior that lead to dog bites or maulings. Get it right, Bubba - Humans.

So without further ado here are the...................

Top Ten Most Dangerous Breeds



10. Criminal Dog Owners - They vary in size, shape, color and creed. Whether urban or rural, they thrive in environments where crime does pay.

This breed may deliberately train dogs to be human aggressive. This breed has been known to shoot dogs for fun it. They fight dogs and use sweet tempered dogs as bait. Here in the New York area - they've been known to feed dogs ground up glass and gun power to toughen them up - you know-In case the police kick the front door - they're out the back - and the dogs are in between.

9. Irresponsible and Ignorant Dog Owners

Characterized by a complete lack of common sense and or manners, these dog owners come in three distinct varieties - Dumb, Dumber and Plain Stupid.

However they do share the same breed traits, like

Complete disregard for local leash or pooper scooper laws
Stubborn, self-centered rudeness
The inability to see the potential consequences for their behavior
So here are the three types if I & I's:

Dumb- When Snowball whines to go out, they throw open the front door and let her out to wander the neighborhood. Snowball is free to poop and pee wherever she likes. And if Snowball should wander into my yard and my dog defends its territory, like many dogs .......we've got a problem.
Dumber - Easy to recognize, this genius nonchalantly walks their dog off leash in the neighborhood, like it's no big deal. WEll in my book - it is a big deal. How would you like it if I let my dog run up to your children off leash. Or run up to any person who may be afraid of dogs. (and BTW - I support off leash space - just not on the block). And it's not OK if your dog takes a dump in my flowerbed, got that?
Plain Stupid- Waaaaay short on common sense - they let their children play unattended with dogs, or let them run up to pet a stranger's dog or get in a strange dog's face.
8. Negligent or Abusive Dog Owners

Like sociopaths who lack basic the human trait of compassion - this all-too-common breed is well known for a lack of care or concern. They are, however, gifted and talented in the areas of neglect or cruelty.

These G & Ts routinely fail to give their animals even the basics of food, water or shelter or fail to provide vet care. David Owens, an employee of Child Services in New York, has been accused of leaving his dying Akita out in the cold for weeks.

Even beating the dog is OK for these people- it's only a dog. Even if it's not their dog! Kick it if it gets in your way, wants food or attention. OK - so cruel and unusual punishment is against law, so giving them the same treatment is out. Too bad.



6. Ignorant Shelter Workers & Rescuers

We give shelter and rescue workers big snaps for the great job they do on a daily basis. That said - they are some bad apples in this bunch. Who? These people are marked by their staggering ignorance, leaving the rest of the dog world stammering in surprise.

Statements from these so-called "professionals" include, "We don't adopt out Pitbulls - they have locking jaws", and "We don't adopt out Rotties or Dobermans - they're aggressive". Better yet, they hide a dog's health or behavioral history, thinking that all dogs can be saved, from adopters who may be in for a big surprise. Someone needs to teach this breed a lesson - and quick.

5. Ignorant Dog Fanciers

Nose and tail always in the air with, "Breed restrictions don't really apply to me - I own a PUREBRED dog". Oh, really ? Maybe you'd like to share you magical powers with the rest of us....or better yet ............

4. Arrogant Dog Fanciers

Not only are nose and tail always in the air, but his type will even dis their fellow dog fanciers with, "it's not my breed". Ain't that special? Now bend over ...........this won't hurt a bit....

Numbers 4 and 5 do a diservice to the many hardworking, ethical home breeders who care deeply about their dogs and the welfare of dogs in general.

3. Irresponsible News Media

They attack -unprovoked, when you least expect it. Out of the blue, and really just when those ratings are starting to take a dive. That's just the perfect time to lead with a dog story. These media outlets target large working breeds, they thrive on fear. And they are yellow to the core.

Yeah - I'm talking to you, Kathryn McIntyre of the Commerce City Journal for your lack of editorial integrity for publishing the street addresses of pitbull owners. Sex offenders have more privacy rights than dog owners.
And yeah - I'm talking to you all you local metro broadcast news outlets, like CBS Channel 2 News in New York that that invariably portray "dangerous" dogs as Pitbulls or Rottweilers. In journalism - we don't automatically portray stories of rapes with images of black or Hispanic men. Nor should we visually support dangerous dog news stories with pictures of Pitbulls and Rottweilers, by default - like the one shown here from the CBS News site:
And yeah, I'm talking to you, for any print or web media that shows that same doctored photo of a snarling pitbull with digitally elongated teeth.
This ain't news - it's titillating info-tainment designed to spike fear, ad circ, and ratings at the same time.

It's time to run these out-of-control puppies back thru the basics - you know, fair and balanced reporting, media ethics - all that stuff they swore by in journalism school.

2. Greedy Insurers

These insurers aren't dogs - they're pigs. And who's to stop them when...........

they can chow down of easy profits on the backs of good dog owners by denying, limiting or eliminating coverage of dog owners in 37 states?
they stuff so much of their piggy bank bucks into the pockets of politicians?
Then politicians, hoggin' up all that campaign dough , do the bidding of the insurance sector, blocking bills that would make it illegal for insurers to discriminate against good dogs and good dog owners.

There's a saying - pigs get fat, but hogs get slaughtered. I'd like to invite you all to a barbeque

1. Opportunistic Politicians

These dogs will whine - they beg - they'll do anything for attention - and money - especially from those fat cats in the insurance lobby who ensure obedience with juicy campaign donations. These politicians breed fear, thrive on ignorance and count on apathy. Prime examples are :

Michael Bryant - Ontario's infamous "Puppykiller" for the province's sick and twisted breed ban. One must "prove" that a dog isn't a pitbull and the law requires all pitbull type puppies be shipped out of the province, sent to reseach facilities or euthanized.

Jackie Speier of California, AKA "The Breed Exterminator" , and notable author of SB 861, which is having a chilling effect on dog ownership in California

Paul Wesslehoft of Oklahoma - whose bill to ban certain breeds just went down in flames in the state legislature there.


Molly Markert of Aurora, Colorado's Town Council - that smiling Miss Prim (we hear she smirked to the audience when the breed ban passed) - and noted dog-hater, a leader in passing Aurora's 12 breed dog ban



I've got a message for you - kick these headline grabbing, egg-suckin', political opportunists of ANY political persuasian to the curb in the next local or state elections.



The Most Dangerous Breeds?

I'll tell you the most dangerous breeds - write these down!

#1 All Time Dangerous Breed:

The #1 most dangerous breed are media outlets that deliberately breed fear, spreading myths and lies about dog breeds and canine behavior through irresponsible reporting and reinforcement of undeserved and negative breed stereotypes

What You Can Do About It:

Call up the paper, the TV station or email the website and complain about the biased dog story
Ask for the Editor, Sales Manager and/or Program Director
Tell them you won't read, watch or visit
Tell then you won't patronize their advertisers until they stop their biased coverage
Tell them they have the opportunity to spread knowledge, not fear
Tell them My Dog Votes!
#2 All Time Dangerous Breed:


The #2 most dangerous breeds are the local and state politicians that feed on the fear created by the irresponsible media, and the public's ignorance. They are greedy for the headlines, campaign dough and do the bidding of the private sector instead of truly advocating for the public health, safety and welfare. They pass breed bans , weight or size restrictions, public space bans, and mandatory microchip laws, and other anti-dog legislation limiting the rights of responsible tax-paying citizens rather than deal with their criminal and social problems.

What You Can Do About It:

Call or write the offending local of state elected official and complain about the breed ban or other anti-dog legislation
Tell them you want the ban overturned in favor of breed-neutral legislation
Tell them you want any other anti-dog legislation stopped or overturned
Tell them you will vote them out in the next election
Tell them you will vote out any politician that supported the ban
Tell them you will rally every dog owner in town against them
Tell them they have the opportunity to educate instead of legislate
Tell them My Dog Votes!

#3 All Time Dangerous Breed:

The #3 most dangerous breeds are the apathetic dog owners who say nothing, or do nothing because they think they cannot affect change, or fight the sytem, or it doesn't affect them directly. Or maybe they just don't care - or won't care - that is - until they come for their dog.

What You Can Do About It:

Tell all of your friends, neighbors, relatives and associates, regardless of whether or not they own a dog about the breed ban or other anti-dog legislation
Tell them they must support their fellow dog owners, friends, and neighbors
Tell them if we don't stand together now, we all fall
Tell them they have the opportunity to unite the community, not divide the community
Tell them to do it for their dog
Tell them My Dog Votes!
Now get off your butts and go do it.
