Optometrist Visit

I guess the raw food isn't entirely a cure-all, and perhaps we shouldn't have listened to the holistic doctor about his eye drops. In any case, his pannus is flaring back up and now he will need drops everyday and more frequent doctor visits.

2009 Thus Far

I forgot to add I've been enjoying 2009 so far. The biggest change so far this year has been my diet. I've switched over to a raw diet and I like it! I feel more blood flow (because all of us dogs are so keen we can tell) throughout my body, my pads are less dry, and my eyes are also improving... I only do one of the drops (the yellow one that I like to lick off my paw) once a week now. The Coastal Holistic (or as James says it, "Hoastal Colistic") vet is a lot better than my previous ones... they have a really big comfy bed and 2 nice doctors that know how to touch my good. Last month I had an ear infection but that's only because I went to the ocean everyday with my great dane friend Vanna and her owner which I secretly have a crush on (I once got a hard-on behind her back, she'll never know!) Ok, I better stop writing because I must get my 23 hours of sleep!

Santa Cruz Petsmart

I forgot to write but a week ago (2/8/2009) I went to Santa Cruz's Petsmart to be a show dog. Well, sorta. The show was just to get others to adopt another greyhound like me. So far I've been to 3 types of greyhound rescue events including SF Haye's Street Fair, Pacifica Fogfest '08, and this recent Santa Cruz Petsmart. I like it because everyone pays a lot of attention to me and I even went into Petsmart's cat adoption center. The cats didn't mind me because I was too scared to look them in the eye!

Smelly Dog!

This past week I got sprayed not once, but twice, by a mean ol' skunk! I think it was the same guy that got me. I went walking with Vanna, my great dane friend, at night on the Pacifica levy and golf course and we both got excited seeing a little black slow creature trying to get away. He wasn't really trying though because he had a super wicked defense - his stinky butt! He sprayed me twice like right in the mouth and head, and Vanna barely got touched (she wasn't as stupid...er, brave, as I was). That was fun but the bath after wasn't and the top of my head still smells pretty funny. Oh well, I hope I see him again so I can... well you know, eat him!

My Birthday!

Today, July 28th, is my birthday! I slept a lot because it was pretty foggy today in Pacifica, but at 2'o'clock I went for a good walk with James. We went with another doggy that I liked and ran with... we went up to Mori Point then down and back, but it was a lot of fun with the other dog. Then for dinner I got a super good food... James told me it was expensive and it was called Weruva Beef and Potatoes. He mixed it with small scallop pasta that Melia made and boy was it good!

And the best part, I got a new toy! Melia and James put my present in a box and I went crazy! I picked the toy and box up with my mouth and ran to the bedroom. Up on the bed I found out it was a skinned squirrel! Ha ha I loved it. Then James pulled out Mr. Froggy, my favorite toy that they don't let me play with too long. This time, however, I got to play with it super long. The frog, I swear is talking to me and bites me! Well I showed him and bit him all over and cracked all his bones... or plastic, whichever it is. Ah it was a good day and it's been really fun living here!

Doh!

Ah shoot, I said I might forget to write and I did. I forgot to tell you how I did at Hayes Street Fair the past week. I kicked butt! I was the social butterfly and not the shaky leg greyhound this time. Hayes Street Fair was really just us 2 greyhounds (me and Katie the grey, she's pretty) at a booth in front of an art exhibit.

The art exhibit featured lots of greyhound artwork, but most of it depicted how we greyhounds were mistreated in our racing day. Needless to say, it was a bit of a downer... so people walked by and saw how happy Katie and I were and then they would see how sad the fake grayhounds and paintings were. Like Caesar Milan says, we greys live in the moment - we don't even remember how badly we were treated... we just remember the fun 30 seconds we got to run each week and how fun it is now that we live in a human's home with good food, lots of romps on the beach, and cozy beds and sofas to lay in.

Also today one of my idles, Daddy from the show Dog Whisperer, sent me a rosette! Daddy's great! I watch him every week with my humans on the couch... I'm always impressed with how calm he is even when the other dogs are being butts. Well I'll try to give Daddy a bone or something in return, but it won't be as nice as a rosette! If you're reading this Daddy, thanks buddy! Hope to run with you someday hehe.

Esplanade Beach

The past month I've met 2 greyhounds, both at Esplanade Beach in my hometown, Pacifica. This is pretty amazing because the last 10 months I only saw one greyhound, and that was in Orange County (LA) on a vacation. Also, earlier this week I received a new bed! I'm not sure where my humans got it, but it smelled like another dog so I think it was given from a friend of theirs... either way, it's super comfy albeit a little small but I like to curdle up in a ball so it fits fine.

I still have my hopes set on that Bowsers Donut Bed (or Double Donut Bed, even better!) My birthday is coming up on July 28th, so my paws are crossed in hopes that I'll get it... but if not, I'm really happy with my new bed.

This Saturday I'll be going to my first "public" showing of greyhounds. Kathleen White, a person I met when I went with my humans to see Katie, a greyhound on Esplanade, setup a Show & Tell at Hayes Street in San Francisco. I'm excited and nervous to go, but I'll be sure to try and remember to write in my diary after it's done.

Running

My owners finally got a new camera and yesterday they got a great shot of me running... finally! I'm too fast for regular cameras! Also today I looked through many Pacifica dogster pages and saw that I recognized a lot of them. I hope they become my friends!

Pet Food Express

The weather was overcast all day so it was another lazy Saturday... but I had one fun event. James took me to Pet Food Express, my new favorite pet food store. I was always nervous in stores like Pet Smart because it was so big and noisy... but Pet Food Express is small, quiet, and has nice workers who always pet me and sometimes kiss the top of my head. I've been there a few times but today I took charge and showed James what I wanted! We were passing by the bed section and I saw the largest and coziest bed and I stepped right in it and laid down... ooh baby, it was comfy! The bed had some kind of number on it... I think it said $139.99 but that's cheap right? I'm not too familiar with human currency (though I am familiar with computers, Internet, and typing... and the word "currency") but it looked like James was a bit tentative to get it for me. Ah well, maybe he'll do some research and find it for cheaper!

While I was sitting in the nice Bowsers dog bed (http://www.bowsers.com/en/products/p31.php?CID=2 ) a nice kitty came up to me and sniffed me... I've seen him before in the store but we've never had a chance to meet. His name is Mr. Pickles and he looks a lot like the cat at home, Mr. Marbles. Thankfully Mr. Pickles is a lot nicer, skinnier, and we are friends unlike that bully Marbles!

So what started as another lazy Saturday turned out to be pretty fun. I ended up getting my favorite Merrick's Venison with Canidae For All Stages dry food and now I'm going to go hit the hay... I'll be dreaming of one of those Bowsers dog beds :)

Supper Time

Radio here typing on the computer while my owners watch TV. I just want to say lately they've been feeding me some great food! I've finally got used to my Canidae For All Ages food, and they've been feeding me great new wet food. I love my Natural Balance with Venison and Sweet Potato. I've also been licking my food dish clean to Merrick: Venison Holiday Stew, Cowboy Cookout, Brauts-n-tots. This food way beats the kennel crap I used to eat!
