Quick Bio:

Likes:
Thick straw to sleep in, a brother to play with and laying in the snow.

Pet-Peeves:
Coyotes! We haven't seen any, but we hear them on the hill near our home.

Favorite Toy:
A big blue Jolly Ball. Sticks in their field, They lost their nylabones somewhere in the straw.

Favorite Food:
Any, but they love bully sticks to chew on. They get Eagle Pack Large Breed dry food.

Favorite Walk:
Around their fenced pasture. They are not leash-trained and almost never leave the pasture. When cars drive by (right next to their pasture) they chase the cars by running alongside, inside their fence.

Best Tricks:
Escaping from our barn by pushing on the large sliding door! We let them roam free (inside the fence) after their second barn escape the next night.

Arrival Story:
These are the first dogs we have bought from a breeder (the others are all rescues), our first working dogs and our first outdoor dogs. They will live in our barn and guard our alpacas.

Bio:
Bukka and Josh came from a breeder in Nebraska. My husband met her in Cheyenne (WY), the halfway point, and drove them home last night.

Forums Motto:
Watcha got? I'll guard it!

Blues connection:
Bukka (pronounced "Book a") White was a Delta Blues musician, possibly related to BB King. Josh White was a Blues songster/performer.

Bukka:
He's a bit larger and less dominant. We cannot pet him in front of Josh, because Josh will attack him. Bukka is an "old soul " and he looks it.

Josh:
He's smaller and was more shy, but he warmed up very quickly. He dominates Bukka and wants to eat ALL the food.

Coloring:
They are badger colored (with brown markings), not pure white like some Great Pyrs. Bukka's markings are scattered, but Josh has a big spot on his side.

Josh's estimated weight:
100 p0unds

Bukka's estimated weight:
110 pounds

There's a pile of snow and ice near the barn, too. Lisa (barn helper) tried to block me from jumping over by putting a piece of wire fencing on top of the no-climb fence. That worked for 2 weeks, until today... I got bored and went exploring outside the fence!

I came back when Lisa, Ruth (Lisa's teenage daughter) and Mom called me... Lisa and Ruth eat meat and they have much better treats than my Mom, who's vegetarian. I took a chance and came running to see what was on the menu.

Lisa says I'm too smart to stay contained for long. That's right- I need excitement, and 14 alpacas, 2 barn cats and 1 brother aren't enough to hold my attention. Yesterday a person slid off the road near the barn into the ditch. 10 people stopped to help and towed her back on to the road- that was pretty interesting. Today was just a regular boring day so I went for a walk...outside the fence.

I try to be "good", but the pasture is so boring. Can't we get some movies or board games or something??

Mom has just told us that it looks like we will be living here and guarding these alpacas for at least 2 more years! ! Her life is uncertain and changing in many ways right now, but even if Star Valley Alpacas folds as a business, Mom says she will be here about 2 more years- therefore we will be here at least 2 more years!

And I have been busy. I have rediscovered an old way to escape the pasture (the poop pile) that has been almost completely removed now. It snowed and froze so much that the access to that part of the pasture was blocked entirely from me- rats.... So I started escaping on a pile of ice and snow near the barn! I met the barn helpers outside the fence for two mornings. This morning I was shivering! Laying on snow, politely waiting for the gate to be opened and breakfast to be served, gets cold. Today the barn helpers tackled and removed the snow/ice pile that I have been using to escape- it's probably for the best...

So that's my news for now- I'm still here and life is still good. I wonder if there's any more piles of snow and ice that I can use for a launch pad? I'll go and check and let you know...
