Arrival Story:
I am a rescue. My mom was looking for another dog to keep Olive company while she was at work. Olive is part corgi and my mom fell in love with the breed, so she wanted another corgi mix or purebred to rescue. She saw me at PetSmart and someone else wanted to adopt me but she beat them to it and boy am I glad! I was a quiet little girl who turned into a big playful girl. But to my mom I will always be her little pup. My mom says I am so smart; she never had to housetrain me- I figured it out on my own! I continue to amaze her every day with my intelligence and happy nature.

A lot has happened since Seamus came into our lives. I've learned some new things.

1. I like him more than I thought I would. At first he was kind of annoying; always jumping on me and pulling on my fur. But then I discovered we could play and since I am so much bigger than he is, that is pretty fun.

2. He's smarter than I thought. When we were playing, I could run faster and I could always tackle him. He would end up on his back and I would open my mouth around his neck, but never bite. But then he discovered a way to get my down. He would go under me and head butt my leg so I fell down. Then he jumped on top of me!

He likes to steal the ball when I play catch with my dad. I am the world's best ball player. While this little rascal cannot out run me to get the ball, he has figured out my path. So he waits until I get the ball and run towards my dad. He is waiting on the sidelines to jump out at me and steal the ball.

Well all this fun resulted in something bad. Mom noticed one time after playing that I held up my back right leg. I cried when she touched it and if she didn't stop, I pretended like I would bite her. I messed up my knee and had to go to the Dogter. He said I might need surgery. Fortunately, a couple days of rest and medications and I feel better. Mom won't let me play as hard with Seamus now.

3. He loves peanut butter as much as I do. Since I have to take pain pills and anti-inflammatory pills, Mom hides them in peanut butter. Seamus discovered this is good stuff. After I get my peanut butter fix, he goes ballistic. He even licks my tongue to steal my peanut butter! Mom's got it on video.

4. This pup does not like to share. He has so many toys! He's always going from one to another. The pawrents bought two rawhide bones; one for me and one for Seamus. Seamus steals mine when I am chewing it. Even if he is chewing his, he has to steal mine. Mom and Dad had to keep him away from me so I could eat my rawhide last night. I devoured it so there is nothing left for him to steal now.

5. I've figured out a way to steal some attention myself. Seamus is still so young that he often gets distracted while he's eating. So Mom sits next to him while he is eating to keep him on task. I wondered why I didn't get this kind of treatment, so I refused to eat in the kitchen by myself. Mom then put my bowl on her other side and now I eat next to her and Seamus. Of course waiting for us both to eat sometimes makes her late for work but what do we care?

All in all, I love my new little brother. I can't wait until we can all go for walks together.

I'm going to nap now.
Ruby.

Don't Bother Me!

Well, the unbelievable happened.

The pawrents went away and came back with a puppy. His name is Seamus and he is driving me crazy!! He is constantly in my face, pulling on my collar, jumping on my back, getting underneath me looking for milk and biting my tail. I am mostly a good girl, but sometimes I have to growl. Its too much for an 11 year old doggie.

My favorite place use to be underneath the coffee table, but no more. Whenever I curl up there, in comes Seamus to annoy me. I just look at Mom and say "help me." So I jump up on the couch but the little squirt stands on his hind legs and tries to jump up to get me. He even eats my food. My only relief is to go outside; he hasn't figured out the doggie door, but I'm sure its just a matter of time. Then what will I do? Honestly Mom, what were you thinking?

Thankfully he seems to have a short awake span. When he gets up in the morning, there is an hour of terror, then I get a break for a few hours until he wakes up again. The good part is Mom is giving me lots of attention, hugs and treats. Oh, I see that rascal is quiet now - time to hang out in my favorite places with Mom.

I never liked it when Mom and Dad left; now I have to worry if they will bring home another puppy!

I've Just Seen a Face

I've been having a really nice summer. Every weekend is "Ruby Day" and that means I get to spend quality one on one time with the pawrents. I'm told this is because I am to get a new little brother very soon. I'm trying not to think about that.

Anyway, this weekend we went to the bay on Saturday and Sunday. Its been so hot; the bay is so cool and refreshing. Dad and I even waded in the water a bit on Saturday. I had to go down some steep rocks to get there, but I did it! Anything to please Dad!

When we got out of the water, I spied a squirrel standing up on his hind legs watching me. Boy did I want to get him! I pulled on the leash, but then he ran into the rocks. I was determined to find him. I pulled and Dad let me sniff all around the rocks. I looked and looked but I could not find him. That little rascal.

So when we went back on Sunday, I was very intent to find that squirrel. I sniffed rocks. I tried to go down to the sand again but Dad wouldn't let me because it was high tide. I looked and looked but I could not find that pesky squirrel. When we were almost to the car, Mom said she saw him. She tried to get me to look, but he was standing very still, so I didn't notice him. Instead of looking, I was busy smelling under the rocks. He heard or saw me and ran, so I never did find him. Drats!

That is a face I am not going to forget. Next weekend I will find him. Not sure what I will do but its fun to look. Maybe I can chase him under the rocks again.

I'm resting now and dreaming of chasing that little critter.
