Birthday: April 1st 2004 Pet-Peeves: Having her ears chewed on by Bopje (my boyfriend's dog), Baths, Storms, pretty much water in general, though she does like the ocean and has since gotten use to the river Favorite Food: Whatever mom's eating Arrival Story: I went to go look at the dogs Betty Baughs had brought back from Hurricane Katrina. They had just gotten off a truck that had driven them 22 hours from Mississippi to Virginia. They were in dog crates in front of the veterinary clinic. In truth I just came to pet the dogs, but they wouldn't let you do that unless you filled out an adoption application. Well it was only my name and address... why not?! So I did. Josie was the very first girl I took out. She was dog number 47. Thats the only thing they knew about her. She didn't want to come out of her crate. She was so terrified and I think just tired from the trip. While all the other dogs were barking she was so quiet. It took a long time to coax her out and when I did she just buried her head into my lap... while I was saying "No... No... No..." The lady assisting with the rescue was saying "Yes! Yes! Yes! Work her girl!" And she did. I went home with Josie that day. She got along fabulous with the cats. She was afraid of stairs. It took months to get her use to them. I think she probably lived in a Ranch house before. She knew not to get on the furniture. She didn't know what to do with dog food... she only ate it if I held it in my hand for her. I finally figured out that if I put water in the bowl and floated those crunchy bits like cereal she would eat it. Eventually she learned to just eat it dry. I suspect she was fed table scraps before she came to me. Josie is just the sweetest, well-behaved, submissive dog I've ever known. And she found my boyfriend for me at the dog park- not bad huh? ;) Forums Motto: Hurricane Katrina Eyes = Hand over food The Last Forum I Posted In: Trying to help a neglected dog I've Been On Dogster Since:
