LONG, LONG TIME

It has been a long time since mom and I have gotten on Dogster. Lack of time is an excuse. It is more the fact that when my best friend, Sheba, passed away, mom couldn't be on Dogster any longer.

Over the last couple days, we have received a couple Christmas cards from Flicka, Lucas and also Murphy. It made us realize how great of a family we had a couple years ago. Friends that you knew would be there for you through thick and thin. We don't know how many of you are out there still, but just know that we love all of you.

I RESCUED A HUMAN TODAY . . .

Okay, I didn't rescue a human. I am playing right now at doggie day care!!! I was so excited that I sang all the way in!!

Here is a sad, but happy story. It is for all you paw pals that have rescued a human!

Author: Janine Allen CPDT

I rescued a human today.

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her. I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid.

As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone's life. She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me.

I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her.

Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes. I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

WHERE ARE YOU MOM??!

She left on Sunday bright and early. Where is she? I have been searching for her for several days now. Dad is still here. He doesn't understand me the way she does though. Mom's friend dropped by today and let me out. She tried to explain to me that mom is in Wichita, Kansas for work right now. I guess I don't understand where Wichita is and why she has to be there. So, I keep searching for her. Every now and then I grab her rug in the kitchen and shake it. I am hoping she will run over and play with me . . . . . .

Downtown Doggy Daycare Paw-gress Report for 4/15/10:

It was a fun-filled, busy day at doggy school. The activities for the day included our favorite games of chase, wrestle and tag. We are so happy spring is here so we can enjoy plenty of outdoor recess time! We have been taking advantage of it and loving every minute! In the afternoon, Mike worked with the big dogs on a group sit. We did such a great job...well, most of us! Then, he rewarded us with a fun game of fetch. The little dogs were busy playing hide-n-seek in the yard so they weren't too interested in doing a group sit. Carrie and Mike promise to keep trying with us though! We were a good doggies today and everyone received an A+ for the day!

VOTE, VOTE, VOTE!!!!!!!!!

No time to waste, so I am stealing this from Sunny!!!

My pal Maya's mom sent my mom an email. Here it the general idea:

I just started volunteering for a non-profit that provides pet food to families when they are seeking food for their families from food bank (DMARC). We do this to make sure that they can keep their families together, even the furry ones. It is hard enough to lose a job or be financially strapped but having to give up a family pet makes things even tougher on the family. In order to do this we have to continue to raise money. (Do not worry, I am not asking for any)!

One of the gals in my group entered her dog in a photo contest at the local credit union --- if he wins she plans to give the $1000.00 prize to our group to purchase food for the pantry. The voting ends tomorrow at 2:00 PM Central. He is currently in the lead but not by much so if you could go and vote for him, I would be grateful!!!

SO.......here is the http://www.iowabills.com/. Go to the bottom of the page and click on "click here to create your own Bill". Then you will see OUR BILL's picture. He is the Mastiff wearing a T shirt that says "Bill". Click on his picture to vote and the enter your email address. Only one vote per IP address. Contest closes today at 2. GO Mastiff "Bill"!!!!!!!!!

It was a fantastic Friday for the pack at doggy school! We spent lots of time outside in the morning before the rain started. We started off with a race around the yard. Maya won for the big dog room while Dillon and Bailey were close for first in the medium dog room. The little dogs were too busy sniffing everything out and playing tag to bother with having a race today. Once it started raining, we spent the afternoon inside taking a group nap along with games of wrestle. It was a
paw-sitively perfect Friday!

DOGS IN OUR LIVES . . . So True!!

Dogs in Our Lives

We aren't house-proud. If we were, we wouldn't abide the scratches on the door-frame, the holes in the screen, the darkened shine of worn spots on the chair.

We would wince at the mottled carpet and fret at the hair clinging to our clothes.

We don't.

If anything, we lovers of dogs are a tolerant lot, finding greater value in the unabashed affection of our friend than immaculate sofas. Shoes can be replaced, but heroic retrievers are timeless.

Without dogs, our homes are cold receptacles for things.

Dogs make a fire warmer with their curled presence.

They wake us, greet us, protect us, and ultimately carve a place in our hearts and in our history.

On reflection, our lives are often referenced in parts defined by the all-too-short lives of our dogs.
