Best Tricks: catching a treat balanced on his nose, catching popcorn

Arrival Story: Bear was found on Christmas Day 1992, wandering the neighborhood as an abandoned puppy. We put up flyers through out the neighborhood and no one claimed him. We took him in and learned that he had hip dysplasia. After having surgery to fix the hip dysplasia and reduce his pain, Bear became a wonderful and loving pet. He lived most of his life in Houston, but the family relocated to the country where he became a "country dog". Several years later, he was involved in an accident that required another surgery on his hip. In August 1999, our beloved Bear met his end when he encountered a UPS truck while his new human family was on a honeymoon vacation. He was supposed to go live with his new family - best friend (Cally's Dad), Cally and Mom the following week in Dallas. Bear was truely loved and will be forever missed.

It's been 8 years since I cross over the rainbow bridge, but my humans still think about me quite a bit. I was the best friend of a young man and he loved me a lot. I would enjoy walking with him and doing tricks like balancing a treat on my nose, then whipping my head up and catching the treat. My human loved me. He would even get on the floor and play tug of war rope with me. Then one day, he went off to college and couldn't take me with him. It made me really sad, but he'd always come home for holidays and I'd get to be with him again. One day he came home and told me that I was going to get to live him in Dallas after he came back from his honeymoon with my new Mom. I would be able to live with my best friend, my new Mom and my little cat sister Cally. I was so excited I could hardly contain myself. A few days after my human got married, I wasn't paying attention and next thing I knew I was crossing the rainbow bridge. I had an accident with a UPS truck and I didn't survive. My human and my new family were upset when they came back from their honeymoon and I wasn't there. I was sad that I had to leave them so early in life.
My humans still talk about me and remember the days when I would romp through the fields with my fur waving in the wind and my apricot ears bouncing happily as I greeted them. My new Mom would remember how I would sit so quietly in front of her, giving puppy dog eyes and eagerly waiting for affection. My humans loved me a lot and really wanted me to become part of their new family. They hope that one day, when they choose to get another dog that I may visit them once again.
