Can you believe it?! I was hanging out by my yard and some lady came by in her car, picked me up and drove me all the way back to Maryland. All the way from TN. She didn't even try to tell the local authorities or the neighbors that she found me on the side of the road as she said she did (but she didn't. She stole me).

When I got to Maryland, the lady who took me from my parents tried to find someone to adopt me so she could make money off me. She took me to a doctor to try and get the mole taken off my head so my parents wouldn't be able to identify me if they found me.... all the way from TN.

The first doctor refused to remove my mole, but she kept trying other vets and finally found a vet who believed what she said and removed my mole.

Meanwhile some of the nice volunteers were working to try and find my mom. The lady who took me refused to tell anyone where she found me so they worked extra hard to try and find my mom and they did!!!!

But the lady who dognapped me didn't want to give me back. SHE HELD ME FOR RANSOM!!!!! She kept increasing her price and then told my mom, my aunt, and uncle that if they wanted me back they'd have to meet her on the side of the highway near Hagerstown MD and bring money!

The police were called. Animal Services was called. The Media Reporters were called. In talking with the humane societies and some people who know the dog napper we found out that this lady has been dognapping dogs for years and then selling them and saying she was adopting them. She moves when she gets close to being caught.

Finally my family called the vet who had cut my mole off and proved that I was their dog and they drove all the way from TN to come get me in Maryland.

The lesson here is that there are VERY VERY BAD PEOPLE OUT THERE. Even if you're in your own yard someone can take you ...and take you far far away from home. If you ever lose your pup or cat, don't just look in your area. Look everywhere else.

What we found out was that there is a ring (and there probably are many of them) of people who steal dogs and bring them to other states and sell them. They set up fly by night 501(3) c rescues and they are just shady. Work with your local shelter and find out what rescues they work with... you may be seeing a stollen dog out there.

This woman sent out a request for adoption, and a request to help foster this dog. She didn't want me in her house so that it couldn't be traced back to her.

There are very good people out there who help and we work with those people all the time, but there are those people out there who do very bad bad things. If you see a dog who was given up, ask to see if the person who has them has a copy of the relinquishment papers. If it's a stray ask to find where the dog was picked up and what the person who found the dog did to try and find where the dog came from. If they said they contacted the police or local rescue where the dog was found, take 2 minutes to call that rescue and just double check. If they won't tell you where the dog was found, be warry.

This story had a very happy ended, but in talking to other people who have known this woman who kidnapped me, we're learning there were many many more dogs that she had kidnapped and taken out of state and then sold / adopted out for a fee.

It might be nice that you have a puppy, but we miss our old families.

I live with a wonderful lady, and 2 other dogs.I have a princess bed, and my uncle is a famous veterinarian who has made some ground breaking strides in animal health. I take good care of the grand kids, and my mom cooks my meals for me every day. I was very well taken care of. This lady who kidnapped me told everyone that my family didn't care for me and left me out on the street to die. She said I was dumped. I was in my own yard when she took me.

I was groomed the day before she picked me up. My nails had been trimmed. I didn't have fleas. These are all signs that I was well taken care of and the dog napper knew this, and when she was questioned about it she started making things up about what was wrong with me.

Keep your ears and eyes open. We all assume everyone is good. Unfortunately that's not the case and us pups miss our homes when we're taken away from our people.
