I retired!

Well first sorry I haven't been as active as I once was in the Dogster community pups! My human got real busy with her volunteer work at the SPCA and I can't type without her and those opposable thumbs of hers!
Anyways, I retired from my therapy dog work with Paws 4 Healing. I just stopped enjoying it I suppose, I'd rather be out in the backyard digging for gophers! My human decided it'd be the best thing for me since she noticed I wasn't really into it whenever we would do visits. She hopes that if she ever comes across a dog that my brother Garfield and I like and could be a therapy dog she wants to adopt it! I would love having a canine brother (or sister) around to play with :D
Peace!
Odie

ADOPT 09 CONTEST

To me adoption means a second chance and saving a life, it also means the ability to give back.
A nice lady saved my life when she literally picked me up off of the streets (she fostered me till I was adopted). I got a second chance when my mom saw me at the adoption event. When my mommy adopted me she gave me a new life and in turn I gave her my loyalty and affection.
I’m also able to give back by my therapy work. It had been my mommy’s dream to get a dog that would have the right temperament for a therapy dog so when she got me she immediately started training me for it. About every other week we visit 2 different nursing homes. It’s so fun to see the smiles on the people’s faces when I walk in. One place that I visited I heard that there was a lady there that didn’t speak much, but after I visited her she kept talking about me to the nurses there.

I'm also nominating my mom for the Dog's Best Friend category. She volunteers at the local SPCA and in 2 years has volunteered over 600 hours there. She also has fostered 4 dogs (they all have dogster profiles!) and does pet therapy with me work twice a month and is working on getting Garfield (my feline brother) a certified therapy cat. She's also an adoption counselor which means whenever she volunteers at the SPCA she's the one who adopts out dogs and cats. Oh yeah and one more thing, she started volunteering at the SPCA when she was 12.

(In the photo I'm shaking hands with one of the residents at a nursing home)

Today mommy brought home her new foster dog, Winston the Chihuahua, from the SPCA that she volunteers at. He only weighs like 4 pounds so Garfield is like 3 times as big as he is! I like him so far I let him know who the dominate dog was when he walked in and he didn't mind me doing that. Mommy say's that if he's now adopted within a week than she'll make him a dogster page.

What a busy weekend!

I passed my Delta Society test! Now I'm a real therapy dog! My mommy and me had to drive down to L.A (which is 2 hours away) to the testing site. My mommy said she was a little nervous before the test but she knew that I would pass and was pretty sure she would pass. The evaluators where very nice and I did pretty good on my test. I got a predictable rating so that means I can only visit predictable facilities but that's okay I don't mind. (http://www.paws4healing.info/)

After the test my mommy took me to huntington dog beach. There where a bunch of dogs there! I didn't want to go swimming in the ocean but I loved to chase the waves back in, I tried to lap up some of the water but I got sand all over my tongue and the water tasted to salt (Ick!).

The next day, my mommy and I went to her uncles's house and I swam in the pool. I didn't really swim around a lot I just kinda swam around the edge. Then my mommy found a small surfboard and decided to see how well I could balance on it. I was really good at "surfing"! I stood up on the board and balanced on top of it and whenever I wanted off I would just jump off into the water.

Getting evaluated, going to the beach, and surfing was pretty tiring. When my mommy and I drove back home I just slept the entire ride back and the rest of the nigh. Yesterday I just slept all day in my kennel I was completely exhausted. I'm pretty much back to normal now though.

My mommy was on a cleaning and she came across a diaper. She was going to toss it but then she decided see how I would look in it. I didn't mind it at first cause I thought that she was just going to put it on me and then take it off. But then she pulled out her camera! I tried to tell her that taking a picture of me in a diaper is NOT OK! But she didn't listen and took a few pictures. After that she took off the diaper and I ran and hide under the desk. The most humiliating part is that now their on my dogster page!! I think I'm going to go hide under a rock now...

Mommy found a stray dog

Yesterday on my regular walk mommy and I where walking around a nice neighborhood and there was a big black dog that was just wandering around. When we passed by the black dog wanted to meet me (she looks like a lab mix mommy was saying) but mommy wasn't sure if she was carrying anything so she didn't let her meet me. My mommies brother was walking with her so she sent him home with me to go get a leash for the stray dog. I was really confused at the time cause I really wanted to meet the new doggy but couldn't and then we started walking away like we where abandoning mommy. Latter on I found out that my mommies brother went back and gave her the leash and before they came back home she knocked on a few doors to ask if they knew the strange dog. She also asked some kids who where playing around there and they said the didn't recognize the dog. So she just took her home fed her and put her in the backyard. Tomorrow mommy is going to take the dog to the vet to see if she has a microchip.

I got a new furcut today...

Today mom was bored so she got out her haircutting scisors and started to trim my fur. At first I didn't mind but then I noticed that I felt a little colder. Then I noticed that she had trimmed nearly all the fur on my body and had started to make little lines in my beautiful fur! (latter she said that she couldn't help the lines in my fur). She decided that I would look better shaved so she got out her razor and started to shave my body! After it was all over I had very little hair left on my body and line designes in my fur. I'll have to make sure that next time she's bored she has something to do other than cutting my fur...

ADOPT 08 CONTEST

So here's my story about how I came to my mommy.

I was just trotting along the side of the road when my foster mommy saw me and pulled over. I just went right up to her like I had just been waiting for her to pick me up. So then she took me home and got me checked over by a vet. When I was given a clean bill of health ( other than being underweight) she began looking for my forever home. She volunteers at P.A.W.S and they go to petco every week to have an adoption day. She took me only 3 times when my mommy saw me. My mommy had been looking for a kitty cat when she saw me and began to talk to my foster mom. She asked what breed I was and my foster mom said Border terrier. My mommy was shocked because she had been looking for a border terrier for 2 years. She walked me around the store a bit and then decided that I was the one. Then she saw Garfield and decided to adopt both of us (after making sure that we got along). At first my name was Pugsley but when my mommy adopted Garfield she decided to call me Odie because she wanted our names to go together. I love the home I'm in right now and can't dream of being anywhere else.
