Arrival Story:
I started out as Bonnie's foster Mom, but as time has progressed it is apparent that she will live with me forever because I am now her hospice home. She came to me through Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies where I am a volunteer. For more information on GRRR, visit our website at: html.

Bonnie first came to me with the name Lexus. She would absolutely not respond to anything I said to her! No wonder! It wasn't until later that we discovered her real name is Bonnie. Now she is a very happy dog. She is a very sweet old dog and I wish she could tell me her story since at first she seemed so sad. She is a stray that came into GRRR in October. We know nothing about her or where she came from. She is a very quiet girl but sweet as can be! Her first night here, she was very unresponsive to any interaction with me, wags her tail, plays with a tennis ball a little bit and is asking for more attention. She absolutely loves to go for a walk and can often be found either standing or lying with her head against the door waiting to go. I know her time with me is limited so I just want to make sure she has all the love and attention she deserves in the end.

I crossed over to the Bridge yesterday and got to be with my best friends and meet the other bridge pups I've heard so much about. I'm so relieved to be out of pain.

I've never been a pup with many words. I'm quiet and well mannered, just grateful to be wherever I am, so putting my thoughts and emotions out there is as crazy as I get! :)

Anyway, I thought it would be fitting to say goodbye and tell you what I was most grateful for.

In September 2007 I was found wandering the streets of Denver and taken to one of the shelters. It was a good shelter, but the day that Angel walked in and took me away from there was a good day. I went to live at her house, but there were 17 OTHER golden retrievers there. Now, I have to tell you this woman is a saint for taking all of us in, but I felt so lonely there, so I always went to the corner or on the couch and just layed there watching. I was miserable.

Several days later, she came to me and put me in the car. Here we go again...ANOTHER place where i probably don't belong. She took me where another woman was waiting for me and they put me in yet another car. The new woman took me to her house, where there was only 1 other Golden and 2 CATS. Are you kidding me? I think I'll ignore the last two creatures, especially since one of them always smacked me on the nose.

Anyway, I digress. This new woman didn't interest me much. She would call me, bang on the floor, try treats. Nothing would get me to respond, until the day she said my REAL name...Bonnie! They had given me a stupid name...Lexus. Sheesh... Once she started calling me Bonnie I came alive and was happy to the end. We played and walked and ate and walked and slept and walked. I loved it here.

Mom took good care of me and all my aches and pains. She helped me through my seizures and my cancer and arthritis and ultimately my liver failure. She helped me live again in spite of all my issues. My favorite thing to do with her was to go for a walk. Oh how I loved my walks! Walk..Walk..Walk. Can you tell? Yay!

The night before I passed, I got enough energy to want to go so we did. It was short, but it was a beautiful night and I was never happier.

I'm not so happy...

So...I have two things going on. The first is a urinary tract infection that went bad. I'm on meds for that, so at least that can be taken care of.

The second is something called ascites, but they don't know why. Ascites is fluid build up in the abdominal cavity. It's usually not a good thing and can be associated with liver failure. However, no masses were found on any of my major organs and my blood work is normal. My liver however is enlarged. Strange that the blood work is normal.

More tests are coming. *sigh*
