Arrival Story:
We decided that we were ready for a puppy and we searched the web for full bred yellow labrador retrievers and came across a breeder in Kingston, MA and took the long ride there. There were two puppies to choose from, her and her brother. Paul wanted the boy as he was lighter in color but when I held her in my arms I couldn't resist her affection and love and wanting to come home with us. Paul drove home as I held her in her blanket in the backseat. She was so happy to be going home with us, but a bit nervous as she left the first place she ever knew.

Bio:
We named Menemsha after a very beautiful tiny fishing village on Martha's Vineyard, MA, which is our favorite vacation spot. She is such a kind, loving, friendly, smart, human-like dog and just wants to say "Hi" to everybody. She is so non-aggressive. She brings us so much joy. She likes humans more than dogs. When I walk her she gets annoyed when we stop to talk to certain people and dogs and she grabs her leash with her teeth and pulls me toward the house.

My first night at my new home

Scary day at Castle Island

Hello,
Today started out as a very calm, nice morning at Castle Island (where mom and dad take me on Sunday mornings to run and play with my friends) and ended up scary because my dear friend McGill (female black lab) was attacked by an aggressive dog that should of been on leash. I barked a few yards away from my friend McGill to make sure the other dog knew that I wanted him to stop attacking her. Mugsy who is my friend too was barking to help McGill. It started out with me, mom and dad walking with Chris and McGill like we do on Sundays and then we met up with Mugsy (yellow lab) who was walking with these two Rhodesian Ridgebacks and we were all playing and then all of a sudden the male ridgeback attacked my friend McGill and McGill's dad Chris was horrified and my dad tried to break it up to help McGill too and Mugsy's dad helped too. Mom was making sure I was safe (I am not stupid enough to get in the middle of a fight). Finally the fight ended and we walked away with Chris and McGill. Luckily McGill wasn't hurt. Mugsy's dad said that there was no excuse for that angry dog. The story of the ridgeback is that the owner just adopted the dog 2 months ago from a shelter and the dog wasn't used to being around other dogs and didn't even know how to play nice. The owner was very irresponsible and shouldn't of had the dog off leash to begin with. Thank god earlier that morning when that dog was sniffing my butt my mom leashed me and told the owner that I don't like that. If I showed that I was mad at that dog sniffing my butt then he might of attacked me. I love my friends McGill and Mugsy and McGill and I am so glad they are okay.
People wonder why mom is so protective of me. It is because of ignorant, irresponsible dog owners who don't know their dogs and need to get them trained and used to other dogs.
Bye for now,
Menemsha

The changes in my appearance as I get older

Mom was nervous about this cyst like lump I have on my upper left arm but she talked to her co-workers that have labs and they said not to worry as it is a fatty deposit and labs get these as they age. Mom was relieved. I am also getting white hair on my nose. I am still beautiful though. : ) My elbows are losing some hair which is normal. I am middle-aged but people think I am a puppy. Mom takes such good care of me and brushes me all the time. My coat is beautiful. So easy to keep clean.

Hi everyone,

Today is my 5th birthday and my mom can't believe how time flies. She told me she loves me more every day. My mom and dad sang happy birthday to me and gave me a bone shaped biscuit with frosting on top and sprinkles and even a candle in the middle. I really could care less about them singing to me and just wanted to eat the biscuit.

My birthday started out with running at the park in the snow and the snow was deep and mom was laughing at the way I was jumping up and down trying to get through it. My favorite is eating the fresh snow. I know the difference between the dirty and clean snow. Mom thinks I am so smart. ha ha......................I also like to roll in the snow and bury my head.

Then I slept while mom went out and then mom and dad came home and we had a birthday celebration.

Bye for now...Woof woof!!!!
