Arrival Story:
April Mae is a rescue dog that I found on Petfinder.com after losing my first dog to a congenital heart defect. We know little to nothing about her history and have guessed at most of what we think her life was like before us. She arrived from North Carolina , heartworm positive, with fleas, tapeworms, hookworms and ear mites. She was one uncomfortable little girl. We chose her because at the time she was listed as being pregnant and was scheduled to be put down the day she arrived at our home. As it turns out she was not pregnant, which is better considering the fact that she has heartworms. We are currently fostering her until all of her health issues are resolved, then we will adopt her and she will officially become ours. I've already fallen in love with her. She is a very skittish, and easily frightened dog. She doesn't do well with strangers (they scare her) and she is very afraid of my husband . Her greatest love is walks outside on a leash. She adores that and would walk for hours if I let her!
