Arrival Story: After I lost the pet-love-of-my-life, Jasper, I had a puppy, Stuart, who needed a friend and I needed one, too. In homage to Jasper, I wanted a pointer and I wanted to rescue it. I went to a rescue event and saw one dog that I liked. But I saw Katie on the L.A. Animal Services website and drove to the South L.A. shelter to see her. I didn't plan on adopting that day. But a volunteer at the shelter told me that they had Katie at an mobile adoption event just the day before and she had been really good with people and children, and just about everyone. She immediately rolled over for a belly rub, and she was a kisser, and she was just as sweet as could be. The volunteer and I took her for a walk. I couldn't leave her there in that place. I took her. Although, we didn't go home immediately. She needed a bath big time, so we went to a pet store for a bath, and they were so nice and so grateful to me for having adopted a dog, they didn't charge me for Katie's "super-stinky" bath.
Bio: The shelter told me that Katie's previous owners had kept her outside all the time. From her behavior and personality, I guess that they didn't abuse her, but they didn't do much with her. Some her behavior initially was a little out of hand (i.e. "I think I'll jump ON the coffee table instead of going around") but she is a very quick learner and is doing so well. She just needed someone to show her the way. And she is such a love. I'm perplexed how her owners could have possibly left her at the shelter.
