Nicknames: Mommy says Daddy is the nicknamer in the family, but he hasn't found one that suits me yet. Mostly everyone calls me Kai or Baby. I thought when I turned 1 they'd stop with the Baby stuff, but I guess not!

 Quick Bio:
Likes: I love my big adopted sister, Nikara, most in the whole world.

Pet-Peeves: I get really sad when Nikara won't play with me. But I guess my biggest pet peeve was when I was too little to jump on the bed by myself. Mommy would lift me up, but Daddy always said not to because I needed to learn on my own.

Favorite Toy: I have a great football that squeaks really loud! It's lots of fun when Mommy and Daddy play in the yard with me.

Favorite Food: Treats! Treats! Treats!

Favorite Walk: I like to walk past the horses and cows near our house.

Best Tricks: Mommy says I'm really good at shake. And I'm learning how to give kisses on command. But my best trick is probably fetch - I'm always being told I must be part retreiver!

Arrival Story: I got to come live with Mommy & Daddy when they tragically lost their 3 year old Malamute named Riven. He had seizures and one day he died. I had been born just a few weeks before it happened, and the breeders who Mommy & Daddy got Riven from gave me to them. I was so happy to come here so I could cheer them, and Nikara, up. My registered name is "Istari's Kaitoke, Ode to Riven". Riven was named after the fictional place Rivendell from Lord of the Rings. Kaitoke is the real place in New Zealand where the Rivendell scenes were filmed. I like being named after Riven - Nikara says he was a really cool brother to have!

Bio: I had a rough start to my life. When I was just 4 weeks old I got parvo. Luckily, my first human Mom works at a vet clinic, so I got the best care possible. I was on an IV and in intensive care for a while. I even had to have a blood transfusion. I'm so lucky to have come to my Mommy & Daddy because now I have a very pampered life. I deserve it after going through all that!

In my last diary entry, I told you all that I had overheard Mom & Dad talking about getting me a surgery to fix me, even though I wasn't sure what was broken. Well, yesterday was the big day . . . . . .
The day started out like any other, but quickly turned from normal to not so normal. We got up about the same time as always, and usually we get our breakfast right away. But we went outside without eating. That was strange. I should have known at that point that something was up. Mom left for work and then Dad loaded Nikara and me into the car - which was cool cuz we love to go for rides. But instead of going to a drive-through where we usually get treats (like at the bank or McDonald's), we went to the vet. They're very nice people there, but I have to admit it's not my favorite place in the world to go.
So, we're at the vet, and Dad takes me in first. He gets me weighed (I weigh 100lbs!) and then hands me off to a nice vet tech who takes me in the back. This is strange too - usually Mom or Dad come with me and we go into an examination room. Little did I know, this would be the last time I saw my Dad for what seemed like an eternity!
It turns out my surgery was called a neuter, and for those of you who've not gone through it, let me tell ya - you're not missing anything!! When I got out of the surgery, I felt so sleepy and I had an incision that hurt. The nice people at the vet gave me some pain medicine so that made things a little better.
Dad finally got to pick me up about 3 o'clock. Boy was I happy to see him! I was kind of wobbly walking down the hallway to greet him and Dad and the lady at the counter were laughing at me. But then we went to the car and I got to go HOME! I don't really remember much more than that about last night - everything's kind of fuzzy.
Today I feel much better! And I'm getting lots of love and treats from Mom & Dad. All in all, I guess this surgery thing worked out ok, but I still really don't know what they fixed on me. Oh well.
Thanks to all my pals for helping me through this with their support and encouragement!

So, I heard Mom & Dad talking tonight about something called a surgery they're going to have done to "fix" me. I guess I'm broken, but I'm not sure what's broken. Nothing hurts . . . . I don't know what a surgery is either - or for that matter, how a surgery can fix something if it's not broken! Also, they said they've been thinking about getting this surgery thing for a long time and should have done it sooner. So I guess I've been broken for a long time.
Also, I'm naughty. Yesterday I peed in the bathroom. I got yelled at. I don't like getting yelled at.
Hope all my pals are doing good!! I'll write more later after I'm fixed :)

Mom & I were asked to be the Malamute breed representative at the Madison Dog Fair! How cool is that?! We get to hang out all day and asnwer people's questions about Malamutes . . . . and I get to be petted by lots and lots of new friends! I guess this Canine Good Citizen thing is starting to pay off :)
Mom is a little nervous and hopes that I can manage to behave myself for the whole day. I know I can do it - she doesn't need to worry.
The dog fair is on November 9th - copy this address into your web browser to download the flyer if you want more information: http://badgerkennelclub.com/docs/2008_df_flyer.pdf.
Hope to see you there!
